Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Steelseries Arctis 5

This is a wired headset and has many features for gaming. Maybe it doesn’t look like a gaming headset but it is good for gaming. Overall, everything is good including sound quality and the mic quality.

Steelseries Arctis 3

All the headset companies making the flashy lighting and eyecatching headsets rather than focusing on sound and decent design. Steelseries’ new line of headphones makes some difference with great sound, a great microphone, and looks that won’t leave you to keep these in your just your house. The Arctis series of headphones available in black or white.

This headset is an advanced version of Arctis 1 and had almost everything like the good sound quality, decent look, and also good mic quality.

DESIGN:

Steelseries Arctis 5

This headset from Steelseries takes a lot from the quality they’ve done with the other headsets and this improves it with a very stylish-looking finish. The headset comes in two colors black or white currently.

This has a really nice slick material finish, I love the material on this. Now, the overall structure of this headset looks really nice. It doesn’t look like a gaming headset, it doesn’t necessarily look like just a regular have headphones, it’s got this nice blend at a gamer could wear and feel like you have to get something really quality.

Steelseries Arctis 3

You can see how well-made this headset is. The plastic that makes up most of this headset is surprisingly flexible. It is unlikely to snap if you accidentally step on it all. The points of articulation have metal in their center to make the headset more durable and the outside of the cups are soft-touch matted plastic which makes it very appealing, not only to look at but to touch.

The main design feature that SteelSeries is most excited about is their new addition of having a ski band inspired suspension system. SteelSeries has included a suspension headband in all of its better gaming headsets that sets it apart from other headset makers like Logitech and Razer. It’s meant to keep any hard parts of the headphones by creating undue pressure on the wearer but its adjustable headband on this Arctis series looks like a strap from the back of ski goggles.

COMFORT:

Steelseries Arctis 5

You’ve got some really nice soft comfortable ear cups which are rigid but also flexible headband. Also, you’ve got a nice soft of cloth material like band structure here which is actually the same material you find on ski goggles. This just gives you a really light feel when you’re wearing this headset.

Now, the headband is easily swappable, you can go ahead and pick up different colors from Steelseries. So, it’s nice to customize your headset in different ways.

Steelseries Arctis 3

The Arctis series tosses the ear cups that would lead to sweaty sessions of gaming on the Siberia 650 headset and instead uses a fabric which while breathable does feel quite premium. They also include leather pads that you could buy for an additional 15 dollars on their site. You can also have a viable option if you don’t like using fabric material for headphones.

I also feel like having leather earpads can further help bass response and noise isolation in gaming. So, this is something to consider.

FEATURES:

Steelseries Arctis 5

The Arctis 5 is a PC 7.1 headset which also works on the ps4 Xbox one as well as your smartphone. Now, on the left ear cup, you’ve got your mute button, volume rocker, proprietary port to connect audio, and then you’ve got a daisy-chain port that uses 3.5.

The ear cups are nice and oval. So, the fit around your ear 40mm drivers. The same drivers in the 800 series, so you’ve got really good audio across the board. In the box, you get a few things with you, you’ve got your game and chat controller, a separate connector for 3.5, and you’ve got your main cable.

It’s got a proprietary cable which can be annoying. So, you definitely lose it but that of course allows you to swap it around. So, you can connect into the 3.5 jack then and plug into your Xbox One, ps4 as well as a smartphone. Then, your chart chat controller on PC plugs in via USB cable, again this is 7.1 surround sound GTX headphone X and you can easily control your game and chat volume with it and also lights up there. So, it’s really simple and really nice to set up.

Now, when it comes to software with this, you’ve got the SteelSeries Engine 3 recognizes the headset once it’s plugged in and you can do a bunch of things. You can customize your colors in terms of the headset on each side or just combine. You have mic monitoring, you’ve also got an adjustment for mic volume. The microphone is called click cast mic. You can also do a lot of noise reduction because it’s actually annoys cancellation mic which allows you to set the noise reduction levels. I prefer low and that’s for me anyway and it does a really good job of giving noise reduction. You can save all this, you can actually have profiles for your audio settings with this headset using SteelSeries Engine 3.

The headset is really comfortable. You can see the lighting options you can definitely change it to either outside. You can change any color on each ear cup means different or the same. As a gamer, it’s nice you can customize it in that fashion but still looks really sleek and also doesn’t necessarily look like a gaming headset. The overall volume controls are easy to access at the back.

Steelseries Arctis 3

Volume control and mute are both on the headset itself. The mute button sticks up when engaged which is a feature I really like from a design standpoint. As it is out of the way in the back of the headset which makes it easily accessible but does not weigh down the headphones by having it on the wire itself like most other headphones you would normally see.

MICROPHONE:

Steelseries Arctis 5

The microphone is a click mic and it does a fantastic job. It’s easily tucked away as a retractable microphone. The mute buttons at the back of the left ear cup.

I’m quite impressed with a bunch of things that you saw in the software you can do with the microphone. So, you can actually increase or reduce your noise reduction and the noise reduction I’d like to set a low because I think, at medium to highs, it’s really aggressive. So, it just sounds much better at low.

I love the microphone and it is clean and crisp, especially using on different platforms. On the PC, it is very nice because you can always jump in and customize that quickly. It’s been really good and clear on the Xbox one as well as the ps4 Pro. For me, this is if really solid headset all the way through from audio to the microphone itself. The Arctis 5 gives you incredibly clear audio of the microphone.

Steelseries Arctis 3

The microphone also pops out when in use which is a great touch to have rather than a removable and possibly something to lose microphone.

The microphone is better than just about any other microphone available in a gaming headset. While I wouldn’t recommend it for serious streamers or podcasters because a separate microphone is always better for those instances. It recreates a fairly natural-sounding voice where there is no tininess, ringing, or static that often accompanies other gaming headsets. The big change of the microphone is that is now bi-directional which means it doesn’t just try to pick up sound directly in front of it but also directly opposite it.

SOUND:

Steelseries Arctis 5

The audio of the headset using DTS headphone X is absolutely stunning. So, you’re really getting good audio and you can listen to music quite well on this. Overall, I think SteelSeries has hit the jackpot with this. For $99, it gives you supreme audio.

In the SteelSeries engine 3, you can turn on DTS headphone X or turn it off. You can get your EQ for games, music, and entertainment. You can also customize your different EQ variants and set that as custom or pick any of the options you have and you’ve also got a dynamic range in terms of your audio keeping the range is lower or higher to expand the range of music or audio you’re getting from the headset drivers. They do deliver quite well in terms of audio which is nice.

Steelseries Arctis 3

For an $80 set of headphones, the audio on the Arctis 3 is damn near extraordinary. It punches up the bass and the treble a little bit more than I like, downplaying the mid-tones and make something like classical music really Pleasant but that’s because it’s a headset tuned for video games. So, explosions rattle and voices pop, and the soundtracks of games like Battlefield never quite overwhelmed no matter what action is happening. Spatial awareness also awesome with these headphones and pinning down where the shots on a battlefield are super easy to distinguish. These cups containing the same drivers found in their $200 pairs of headphones.

I was able to sound more perfectly with these cups and even in loud environments, I was able to pick out through a harsh sandstorm where the enemy was running to make the kill perfectly and pretty effortlessly.

WHICH TO BUY?

I think Arctis 5 is way better for gaming and all than the Arctis 3. But, it will be on your preference. If you don’t want the RGB, USB, and the DTS headphone X sound then the Arctis 3 will be good to buy and there are just $20 difference in price and these all the things cover the price.

SteelSeries never disappoint and to have a headset of this price ranges with the components of a $200 headset that makes these a great overall value to a gamer on a budget as well as those who want great audio quality without sacrificing on good looks or poor performance on other areas.
