HOW TO MAKE GARLANDS FOR HALLOWEEN
If you like to decorate your house when Halloween arrives, perhaps a good idea is to bet on making the decoration ourselves for a celebration that, although very American, has already spread throughout the world. Halloween garlands, like Christmas garlands, can be very varied so in Espaciohogar we want to show you some models that are simple and you can make perfectly at home. Also for all of them, you can count on the help of the little ones.
Think about the main Halloween motifs and with this sure inspiration will immediately come to you to start cutting cardboard, colored paper, or foam rubber and thus be able to create beautiful garlands like the ones you see in these images and in which you can even use different colors.
Skulls, pumpkins, ghosts, spiders, etc … all this serves to inspire us when it comes to making a Halloween decoration that is original and at the same time terrifying, and if you want to be yourself or yourself the one in charge to elaborate all kinds of elements that are scary and “dress” your house, from here we advise you to bet on the garlands since in their elaboration you will need materials that you can easily get and because you can also make them with the smallest of the house.
HALLOWEEN GARLANDS | CARDBOARD GARLANDS
One of the best garlands you can make for this Halloween is the cardboard one. It is a cheap material, easy to handle and that has many possibilities.
For example, you can make beautiful garlands of pumpkins like the ones we explain now. They are so easy to make that even kids can make them with you.
The idea is to do something similar to what you see in the photo. To make this type of garland you will need the following materials.
A rope or a thread
Pumpkin Two-Tone Cardstock
Scissor
Marker pen
You must cut the cardboard in the shape of a pumpkin, you can be inspired by the ones you see in the photo since they do not have to be very large.
Once you have made several, you make a couple of holes in each one and alternate them so that they are of a different color. Pass the rope or thread as you see in the photo, a pumpkin in front and another behind, and finally let the “kids” draw faces (a tip not to paint all the pumpkins, you can tell them to make a “yes ”And a“ no ”).
Much simpler than these other Halloween garlands also made with cardboard. All you have to do is cut out round pieces of cardboard and let your children paint faces. You must also take pieces of green cardboard, fold them a little and glue them on top of each pumpkin, leaving a small space or hole so that later we can pass between figure and figure a small string, rope, or ribbon with which hang our garland. The truth is that it cannot be easier and with it, your children are going to spend a most distracted afternoon.
HALLOWEEN GARLANDS | FIGURES
On the other hand, we help you to make spectacular garlands now that are very easy to make. We will simply need some materials that we will comment on below. Take note! because they will give you decorative garlands in the shape of a skull.
First, we must have molds of figures indicated for this party. We have chosen some skulls since by way of explanation it is much easier but hey you can make a mold for any other figure. It is enough to draw it as a template, then cut out the figure, and voila it will serve you to draw it wherever you want. In our case, cardboard.
To make these garlands you will need:
black cards
a printer
pencil
thick thread
needle
All of them are elements that are very easy to get and we can start in moments. We take the molding or template that we have drawn (or if you have searched for it online you will have to print it). Once you have your template, you trace it to the cards. We make several of each model and we join them with thread and needle.
In this way, you can have wonderful garlands with little financial expense and that will serve to hang them from the door, on the walls, or on the windows. You choose the extension you want. Another option is to take some Eva or foam rubber that will make it look just as decorative as with cardboard but at the same time, much more resistant and bulky.
In this other image, you can see what I tell you about Eva’s rubber. We can cut different figures from a template since it is an easy material to cut and then join them all with a little string. Also as in the photo, we can combine pumpkins in orange and bats in black, achieving a simple Halloween garland and at the same time, very showy.
HALLOWEEN GARLANDS | FELT
Finally, we talk about another perfect material to make your Halloween garlands. This you see above is an image of several figures that have been sewn for a Halloween garland from the use of felt. An idea that seems ingenious to me but at the same time very simple to do with a material that is also easy to manipulate as it happened to the previous ones.
Below you have another image with small elements as if it were the clothes of a witch and the best thing is that it is held with small tweezers, does not it seem original? Let’s see now how to do something like this.
To get this decoration you will need the following materials.
Colored felt

To get a garland like the models that we see here, you will only have to cut the felt with the shapes that you like the most, and that has to do with Halloween. It can be the shape of a witch’s clothing like the one you see in the photo, although you can also cut it in the shape of pumpkins or skulls. If you have a sewing machine and you know how to use it, you can do as in the first image and sew different threads (such as stitching) to make it look much more decorative and with a somewhat more original finish.
Depending on the shape you give it, you can place more or fewer details such as the buttons or cords that you see in the garland in the photo and that are hanging from the rope or thread with the tweezers.
