Expert reviews Acer Predator Helios 300-
By TechSpot
Whether or not you can overlook the display issues will determine whether the Helios 300 is the right choice for you. But in general, the fact this laptop includes GTX 1060 gaming hardware for a few hundred dollars less than its competitors makes it an option you should closely explore.By TechSpot
On the surface, the Acer Predator Helios 300 isn’t a head-turning gaming laptop. It’s a 15-inch system with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and GeForce GTX 1060 graphics, which is a baseline platform for many portable gaming machines. But what piqued…All things considered the Acer Predator Helios 300 would sit a lot better with me if it wasn’t as big, given I take laptops with me daily, whereas this feels more like a laptop designed to take to a LAN party once a month. If I’m investing in a laptop I…The Helios 300 is Acer’s mind-range gaming laptop built on Intel HQ processors and 1060 graphics. The excellent pricing and solid performance are its main selling points, alongside a nice keyboard, alright IO and a fairly good screen on this updated 2018 model. There are however still some aspects to improve, like the size of the battery, arguable design decisions and rather lackluster speakers. The Acer Predator Helios 300 is a good gaming laptop if you’re after a machine that’ll be plugged-in 95 percent of the time. It gets you good performance per pound with elements of gamer flashiness that appeals to some. The screen is what secures it a…

If you’re looking for a privacy-focused machine with bountiful versatility, look no further. The performance isn’t market-leading and neither is the battery life, but it does everything to a good standard. It’s the classic ‘jack of all trades, master of none’.By TechRadar
The EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is the apex predator of the business laptop world, a magnificent beast with a big punch, but also a bigger price tag (compared to its rivals). There’s a lot to like about it but the competition is ferocious out there, both in terms of features and sales pitches. Shop wisely.By zdnet.com
There’s nothing revolutionary about HP’s Elitebook x360 1040 G5, but it’s a solid convertible laptop that performs well. Build quality and specification choices are generally impressive, although the 400cd/m² screen is rather dim and we’d like to see a privacy cover for the webcam. Beware, though, that high-end variants of the Elitebook x360 1040 G5 are very expensive.By Thurrott
Yes, it’s expensive. But I think the build quality and resulting durability, the future-proof specifications, the versatile form factor, and business smarts and security place the 1040 in rare company for many small and medium-sized business customers as well as entrepreneurs, professionals, and power users. The HP EliteBook x360 1040 is highly recommended. I can’t stop using it myself.By zdnet.com
It’s been 10 years since Samsung launched the first Galaxy S device and this year’s model continues building upon the Galaxy Foundation with innovative tech, enhanced intelligence, and an overall solid competitor to the iPhone XS Max.For more see:…
DESIGN
Acer Predator Helios 300:
In terms of design, It looks exactly the same as last year’s model a black metal lid Plastic body the predator logo in the middle and two red stripes running vertically if you’re looking for a very portable gaming laptop to go to school this is not best.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
The HP EliteBook x360 10 to 40 G 5g5 is a generation 1040 means it’s the 14-inch model we’ve actually already reviewed 1030 which is a 13.3-inch model so a little bit bigger but the footprint still has, more like a 13-inch laptop because in small bezels and good engineering the usual full CNC aluminum casing, very nice design looks wise it’s sort of an aesthetic that sits between the ThinkPad x1 yoga which is matte and black and some of you say is boring.
WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS
Acer Predator Helios 300:
Gaming laptop they have made it a little thinner it’s 20 mils thick and it’s about 2 kilograms heavy so, it’s reasonably portable but it’s still definitely a gaming laptop. It weighs about 6 pounds.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
The 14-inch EliteBook x360 1040 G5runs on 8th-generation Core i5 or i7 processors with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage. It weighs 1.35kg and comes with a 4-cell 56.2Wh battery. Images: HP Inc
KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD
Acer Predator Helios 300:
Trackpad and backlit blue keyboard, this off it’s a blue teal light blue it looks nice the bezels are still fairly chunky it would’ve been nice to see that trim, down a little bit there are 16 gigs of ram but you can upgrade this to 32 gigs. The keyboard is RGB but it’s limited to four zones rather than being perky backlighting but it’s great to see all the same. The keyboard is pretty much the exact same one is last year a nice rubber feel to it feels great to game on and type. On you have the red WASD keys for gamers full-size keyboard Meaning you have a numeric keypad in case you need to type in some numbers or use Excel.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
The battery a little bit smaller which usually is a bad thing but they’ve improved the efficiencies of the entire design Intel’s CPU, is actually a little bit more power frugal with each generation so the runtimes are about the same as the g4 previous generation so, I’m okay with that in that case at sixteen points nine millimeters it’s quite slim as beefy 360-degree hinges so you have the usual tablet tint laptop mode.
PORT SELECTION
Acer Predator Helios 300:
Ninth gen AI 7 processor along with more importantly the gtx 1650 graphics card from Nvidia, now that’s a pretty decent mid-range graphics card obviously it’s not one of the r-tx GPUs so there’s no rate racing to be had. I’m not gonna lose any sleep over that but with the laptop stay to be the resolution you shouldn’t have any problem having high settings in most recent Triple-A games. our ports on the left-hand side. You have a full-size Ethernet jack. You have a USB type-c port That’s a not Thunderbolt 3 a full-sized HDMI port a USB 3.0 port and a full-size SD card slot on the right-hand side. You have your barrel power connector two USB 2.0 ports And of course your audio jack just like last year’s model Everything inside is pretty much.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
USBC and Thunderball 3 we still have some so-called legacy ports here thankfully we have two USB ports and we do have two USB, see slash Thunderbolt 3 ports your usual 3.5-millimeter audio jack and an HDMI 2.0 port.
DISPLAY
Acer Predator Helios 300:
Now one thing, that this does have is a high refresh rate display 144 Hertz well though. I’m a bit worried how often you’ll actually get up to 144 FPS in the latest games with that 1650 you may have to drop the settings a little bit to fully take advantage of the high refresh but it does mean everything looks nice. Main display port HDMI USB type-c although I don’t believe it’s thunder ball 3 3 USB Taipei’s 2 of which are the faster three-point. You need to keep it plugged in the entire time the displays on a budget to mid-tier gaming laptops in 2017 were quite terrible most displays on the Acer laptops Dell and even HP had ratings of about 65 to 70% That was really bad. If you bought your gaming laptop to also do some color grading Let’s say working in Photoshop this year Acer has listened. They put a great display in their Helios 300 has a 98% rating has over 300 nits of brightness.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
The display 13.3 inch this is a full HD model goes up to 400 nits it’s actually a little bit below, that but still not too bad now there’s another option here HP actually do plenty of options for displays, this one is the colossi they do make an anti-glare version they also have one sure view that’s where you can hit the button and amass, the screen so all occurs can’t see what you’re reading or writing about which is a nice option that can also go up to 700 nits of brightness. And you can also get a 4k display so if you’re really into you know having high resolution.
BATTERY
Acer Predator Helios 300:
The battery is 48-watt hours So it’s quite small don’t expect to get a lot of gaming out of this when it’s off the charger, in fact, I was only getting about three hours of use with doing things like checking my email and browsing the web.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
The battery a little bit smaller which usually is a bad thing but they’ve improved the efficiencies of the entire design Intel’s CPU is actually a little bit more power frugal with each generation so the runtimes are about the same as the g4 previous generation so, I’m okay with that in that case at sixteen points nine millimeters it’s quite slim as beefy 360-degree hinges so you have the usual tablet tint laptop mode.
PERFORMANCE
Acer Predator Helios 300:
Headphone jack and the power so that’s a good range and there’s also a turbo button so just with one press it kind of overclocks it puts it to maximum performance mode and you should get a little bit more power, out of it it’s a pretty good-looking laptop it’s got quite sharp corners here which are the most comfortable we’ve got a good-sized.,to see more affordable gaming laptops with 144 Hertz IPS screens so I’ll definitely be interested to see how this performs.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
In terms of performance and thermal as well it’s an ultrabook folk say all when they’re thin and they’re metal they’re all pretty much in the same no HP really focused on the thermals and on the acoustics a lot on this and I have to say it doesn’t get very loud when the fan does come on and really this is not meant for fortnight though. I know some of you’re gonna be tempted to do that prefer the usual business and productivity kind of tasks a little bit of video editing that sort of thing, the surface temperatures will get warm but they will not get burning ouchy hot it runs a little cooler than, the specter x360 historically have in terms of surface temperatures also, the core temperatures are good on this there’s no thermal throttling if you use it for the intended purposes again not for tonight so much.
CONCLUSION
Acer Predator Helios 300:
If you don’t want any frames to drop and you want a good experience, don’t let the system determine the fan Rotations set it to the max and leave it on max all the time with cool boost enabled. I found those settings in the while. I was gaming I got zero issues with frames dropping and the CPU temps stayed around 80 degrees So here are my closing thoughts the ACE repetitive Helios 300 still offers a lot of value for the money. They’ve improved a few things that a lot of consumers were complaining about last year Specifically the display is absolutely awesome for gaming and most importantly its code accurate for creatives who want a gaming laptop but also be able to do work at the same time now, it’s not perfect I do wish it had a different design I do rush though as a Thunderbolt 3 port and, I do wish there was better battery life But in all fairness most gaming laptops have poor battery life Anyways, I think for the money this is still one of the better laptops you can buy for the price Is it the best one.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G5:
To conclude that HP EliteBook x360 1040 g5 for late 2018 early 2019 with Intel eighth-generation. CPUs inside it’s a very nice 14-inch convertible ultra but, I like that 14 inch is the new 13.3 inch in business laptop since the bezels are gotten smaller so it’s very nimble to handle shall we, say the build quality on this is excellent the security features are excellent the selection of displays is also very good even though we have basically the lowest end display option other than we have the matte finishing.
