Experts Reviews for Alienware M15:

By TechSpot
The Alienware m15 is a great step forward for the company, but it ultimately doesn’t get our recommendation. It’s hard to create the perfect portable system on the first attempt, and many competitors have simply been doing this for longer and have more refined, better options today that you should consider instead.

The Alienware m15 OLED offers undeniable performance in a package that avoids the pitfalls of many gaming laptops: egregious size. It’s slim and light enough to go into an average backpack, but it’s potent enough to work hard and play hard. Throw in a…

Alienware took its time to come up with a ‘thin and light’ gaming laptop, but I’d say that it has hit the sweet spot. The m15 is equal parts flashy and powerful. Despite being different from the other Alienware laptops, the m15 has managed to retain…

The Alienware m15 performs precisely in line with our expectations, that is, excellent frame rates while gaming and short render times in both Lightroom and Premiere Pro. Where it falters is in poor thermals, with the WASD keys getting as hot as 46…

Expert Reviews for Dell G5:

By LaptopMag
The Dell G5 15 Gaming has one too many flaws, including middling performance, a dull display and bad speakers — all packed into a thick body.

By PCWorld New Zealand
The best thing I can really say about the G5 is that the price of the thing really adds a lot of color and helps makes it easy to recommend in a way that most gaming laptops aren’t. Usually, the expectation if you’re looking to buy a gaming laptop is…

I know that one! With Coffee Lake and a good mid-range GPU, Dell presents the G5 15 as a gaming notebook for the limited budget. Being the successor of the Inspiron 15 7577, the device looks visually very familiar. You can find out in our detailed…

By laptopmedia.com
Although G5 5587 is just a rebranded Inspiron 7577, the model is definitely not a bad choice. Actually, if you have no complaints about the appearance and the slightly higher weight doesn’t bother you either, then the only drawbacks you will have to…

DESIGN

Alienware M15:

For the design we’ve come to know and love with the XPS 15 solid build excellent construction overall really good build quality.I love the sleek all-metal design on the exterior and that really good carbon fiber deck on the inside which gives it a really nice feel but one thing to keep in mind about that carbon fiber deck it is a major fingerprint magnet you will be wiping it down quite often.

Dell has been pretty much going with this same design for the last few years and I know a lot of people been clamoring for a radical redesign. I’m glad they kind of didn’t do that I’m glad they sort of kept it more r less the same design because it is sleek looking and it really has a classic feel at this point.

Dell G5:

The new Dell g5 2019 model as we saw this at CES it’s been redefined compared, to last year’s model the biggest noticeable difference is the hinge this year we have a hinge that sticks out from the top to give you more support from the monitor we still have the grill marks running across the sides. The laptop and of course if you buy this model the special edition you can peek inside to see the internals which will give you a glimpse of the fans that’s the only way to get the white models if you buy the special edition it costs a little bit more money but you get a nicer paint job on it the cool thing about this laptop is the Dell, logo it’s a blue in the middle but depending on the angle you’re looking at it you get green reflections.

WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS

Alienware M15:

It weights nearly 4.8 pounds, dimension are 14.3 x 10.8 x 0.7-0.8-inches, the m15 is the slimmest Alienware laptop ever you’ll see.

Dell G5:

For the width it is almost nearly 389 mm (15.32 in) and where the height is almost 389 mm (15.32 inches) weight of this laptop is depend on the configuration the manufacturing variability.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

Alienware M15:

For the keyboard and touchpad it’s a thin and light design and I also love the fact that it’s user upgradeable now the negatives here would be obviously average battery life but that is to be expected with a 4k OLED display and it can’t get expensive with some of these upgrades but no deal-breakers here as far as I’m concerned. I’m gonna give this a score of 90% making the new Dell XPS 15 75 90 worth your money.

Dell G5:

For the keyboard it’s not a bad keyboard it’s not my favorite keyboard for gaming. I actually find the keys to be a little bit too mushy and the space between them to be a little bit too wide. I do like the fact they include a numeric keypad so if your student needs to curve some numbers maybe need to count like how many. I don’t know oranges you ate in a day you can do that now the touchpad though good size lots of space to move around it is using windows precision drivers so very comfortable to use the only thing. I need to mention is that the deck is made out of metal to give it more of a premium feel.

PORT SELECTION

Alienware M15:

Now let’s talk about the port it’s actually pretty good on the left side you’re looking at a power port a USB a 3.1 and HDMI 2.0 a Thunderbolt 3 port and finally a 3.5 millimeter audio jack moving over to the right side a full-size SD card slot which is always good to see a USB a 3.1 and your battery indicator light. I actually like it now I love that and finally a noble lock port, I would say this is a pretty good overall port selection.

Dell G5:

At the left hand side we have your USB type-c, Thunderbolt 3 port USB 3.1 and of course your audio combo jack on the back we have your power connector this is a 230 watt brick full size HDMI USB 3.1 mini DisplayPort rj45 this is 2.5 gigabits and of course your noble lock on the right hand side you have another USB 3.0 port.

DISPLAY

Alienware M15:

15.6 inch OLED display it’s a 4k resolution 3840 by 2160 it’s simply superb that’s all I can say about it, I mean you really are looking at one of the best displays out there it’s got the really vibrant colors to really deep blacks that are the hallmarks of an excellent OLED panel that of course was provided by Samsung and as far as brightness is concerned Dell claims 400 nits.

Dell G5:

For the display with either 60 or 144 Hertz it’s full HD it’s IPS color accuracy on the 60 hurt is actually pretty bad. I’m talking about panels that we used to use like two or three years ago I don’t know why they have such bad panels on these displays in 2019 it’s fine for gaming I just find it to be not as vibrant as other panels. I wouldn’t use this display to do content creation if you’re buying this I highly suggest hooking it up to more color accurate external monitor webcam still not the best this is 720p this is what it looks like fine for like streaming games because when you think about it.

BATTERY

Alienware M15:

In battery, here are two battery options a 3-cell 56 watt hour battery or the upgraded option which my review unit has a 6l 97 watt hour battery it has killer wireless and Bluetooth 5.0 you’re looking at 4 pounds, for the standard version and 4 and a half pounds for the OLED version it has a starting price of 10 79 us prices tested is 25 49 but that’s enough with the specs let’s find out what you get inside the box let’s open it up you get your extension cord a hundred and thirty watt power adapter they uses a barrel pin connector.

Dell G5:

The battery 90 watt hours getting about seven to eight hours of use if you put this on the Dell optimized setting we have two slots for RAM but unfortunately they can figure it with 116 gigabyte dim I would have loved to see two eights this would give me dual channel memory it would help speed up certain processes specifically in some games and most importantly when you’re doing more productive tasks like rendering file now you do have only one spot for a dry.

PERFORMANCE

Alienware M15:

For the performance it’s when it comes to performance you won’t be disappointed now this the core I $9.99 that’s the 8 core processor 32 gigabytes of dual-channel ddr2 RAM and it has the nvidia geforce gtx 1650 with 4 gigabytes of gddr5 video memory now here as you can see on the benchmarks it did really well as we would expect of course doing things like Microsoft Office web browsing email all did really well for video editing this is a really nice choice especially if you’re gonna use Premiere Pro it did very well.

Dell G5:

For the performance mode it hits 100 degrees Celsius and stays there and thermal throttles at power throttles and it can’t keep the CPU cool enough. I don’t know what it is with Dell gaming laptops the last few Dell gaming laptops I’ve reviewed have been complete hot messes and it makes me really hard to recommend these products.

CONCLUSION

Alienware M15:

So to conclude that the powerhouse, I think this did really well because not only can you do video editing on this you could do productivity work and again you can game on this as well now of course this is not a dedicated gaming laptop and one of the reasons you’d want to steer away if you’re just looking for a dedicated gaming laptop is because it will thermal throttle and that’s because you’re looking at the core i9 on this and you’re in a very small chassis a very small thin and light laptop considering the power of this packs so of course thermal throttling will occur.

Dell G5:

As the overall experience so finally we have the keyboard it’s not a bad keyboard it’s not my favorite keyboard for gaming. I actually find the keys to be a little bit too mushy and the space between them to be a little bit too wide. I do like the fact they include a numeric keypad so if your student needs to curve some numbers maybe need to count like how many I don’t know oranges you ate in a day you can do that now the touchpad though good size lots of space to move around it is using windows precision drivers so very comfortable to use the only thing.
