By and large, the Astro A20s impress. They sound great, fit very comfortably, and I had no issues with the wireless signal or set up. This headset may not hit the highest highs of sound quality as the Astro A50s do, but at half the price, they’re a very…

Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Astro A20

This is something like a budget version of the higher-end headset A50. It works well and the sound quality is also good for the price. This gives fully what we expect from this price range of headset. The design is also almost like A10.

Astro A40

This is one of the premium models of Astro gaming. The sound quality and features of this headset are just outstanding. This gives you everything for this price as you expect.

DESIGN:

Astro A20

It’s built pretty decently is plastic. It’s not gonna be anything overly crazy or super-premium feeling but it is good enough to get the job done. They are very durable. I’m pretty sure they can probably handle a drop or two.

The A10 and A20 had the same look and feel, just one was Wireless and one wasn’t but that is not the case. So, the A10’s ear cups are a little bit smaller than they are on the A20. On the A10, those are very much so on-ear headset, so you will feel the ear cup on top of your ear won’t be going around your ear. So, it’s really not gonna isolate too much noise, you have to turn them up which isn’t a problem. On the other hand, it’s also not as comfortable as the over-ear headset design so with that being said, I would much rather recommend buying A20 just because they’re gonna be more comfortable and you’re gonna want a headset this lightweight, comfortable to wear, and convenient to use.

Astro A40

Aesthetically, I love the look of A40. Now as far as the look, it’s nice. I like the fact that you can change things and you can see it’s TR, it’s the tournament-ready version.

As far as the look on the headset itself, it looks pretty cool. The mix amp is nice, it’s nice and heavy and just feels sturdy. You can drop this, the thing is you don’t want to drop this but if you are playing from afar.

COMFORT:

Astro A20

You got a little cushion up top for your head in case, it’s gonna press down on your hair or press down on your head. It’s not really gonna clamp down on your head and feel like you are wearing earmuffs in the wintertime. Then obviously, you can adjust the ear cups up and down and that’s about it. They don’t twist around like the other higher-end Astro or some other brands of headsets do. The only thing that I wish this headset had is the ear cuffs that twist but other than that is really not that big of a deal.

The ear cuffs have like soft touch, the lure memory foam. It’s pretty comfortable, it’s the same ones they use A50 before you squish them out with a mod kit, I think that they’re nice.

Astro A40

You can change those ear cups as well if you want to. It’s made out of fabric but if you buy the conversion mod kit for $60. You can make leather ones and it’s gonna be noise canceling.

There is the kind of like the height adjustment and you can see it looks like a car, it looks like it does have that suspension thing. This is magnetized so you just pop it open the backside of earcup like that and you can interchange the microphone as well on any side of the headset.

FEATURES:

Astro A20

They’re extremely convenient to use, first one they’re Wireless you don’t have to worry about anything being attached. They’re really easy to use in ps4 mode and PC mode. So, all you do is just connect the USB to your PC or for use in ps4 mode, you just connect the USB and the optical cable and that’s it. You can leave your ps4 somewhere else around the room, the range is pretty decent. So, if you have a pretty large room, it shouldn’t be a big deal and it’s just really easy to set up.

Sometimes, there are software updates that you have to do, so you have to make sure that you download the Astro command center to be able to do that and you can also change like some other settings too like the mic and all that stuff. So, if you want to adjust some settings, adjust the noise, adjust the mic monitoring, and just all that through the Astro command center.

You got some pretty basic controllers. You got your power button, you got your equalizer button, and then you have a volume rocker. One nice thing I will say about the A20 volume rocker is that basically any time that you turn the headset off and then turn it back on the later date to reconnect it and play your ps4 or PC, it’ll keep the volume down which is really nice. If you keep that blasting sound one night and other you start playing and the headset gives you a shock of loud sound. So, these won’t do that and I think that that is a cool feature that Astro added to their wireless headsets.

Astro A40

The good thing about this headset as well, you have an option to buy the noise-canceling stuff. The cords that are included, you get the digital optical out for ps4 Pro and the wire that’s connected to the mix amp to your headset and the other one was the USB. There’s also another like if you have two A40 headsets in one place, you can connect both of them. So, if another person is there or another mix amp Pro, you connect it.

I think the headset itself may cost around $120 and that’s why the headset is so expensive. You can see all the ports in here, the Daisy link, stream if you want to do streaming, the selection ps4, optical if you are using a ps4 Pro.

To connect the Mix Amp, you just connect the optical on the back and then the USB in the front or in the back if you have space, it’s just that on my ps4 and then you just connect headset on the front. you can mute it and there is a button to the toggle if you wanted. There are different options and everything is on the Mix Amp Pro which is great because you don’t really need the software. I mean, if you want to update your headset obviously you’re gonna use that but there are four options that you can toggle would different with your headsets.

You can change anything in this headset as you like. You can customize it as you please. So, I mean, for the price that you’re paying you are getting a lot of options with this headset.

MICROPHONE:

Astro A20

One cool thing about the mic if you flip it down, it’ll activate it and if you flip it up, it’ll mute your mic. I think it sounds pretty decent for the price range. It’s not the best but it is far from the worst.

Astro A40

One downside to the mic is that it doesn’t go on mute if you put it up upwards but it’s okay because it’s wired and you have that thing on your neck anyway. So, it’s really accessible that’s just one thing that some headsets have in built-in.

SOUND:

Astro A20

The A20 sound can’t match up with the A40. Actually, A20 sounds for $120 but not match the $250 headset. you can tell the difference immediately. This headset gives you some very clear directional sound. You’ll be able to hear exactly where everything, what direction, enemy footsteps, cars coming behind you, or in front of you, literally any direction that a sound is coming from you will be able to hear exactly where it is.

It doesn’t have like the best dynamic range compared to the A40 but the sound quality is still decent. It does lack in the bass department, so if you’re looking for it has to rock your skull, Astro not the brand for that. But, other than that the sound quality is good, if you talking to your friends the voice clarity is good as well. In-game, the clarity of the audio is really good as well. So, I do recommend these if you’re looking for an inexpensive wireless headset that has decent sound quality and good positional audio.

Astro A40

I can say that this is amazing and sometimes it freaks you out because you can hear footsteps from different directions. so you kind of know where if somebody is creeping up behind you if they’re coming from the left or right. It’s the best headset that I’ve ever used when it comes to gaming.

This A40 headset with mix amp just rock sound, it really shines once you got the setup. The sound quality is very nice and clear for gaming. This is one great headset I’ve ever used considering the sound quality. The surround sound is just awesome in this headset. Most of the headset’s surround sound is not be that much good but in this, that’s just the opposite.

WHICH TO BUY?

Even though the headset is expensive, the sound quality and feature and everything in the Astro A40 is worth the price. In between these two headsets, I will recommend Astro A40 if you are just in gaming. If you don’t have a budget of $250 then Astro A20 is also a good one. But, it will not be like A40 but in gaming, it will give good quality sound for their price.
