INTRODUCTION:

Blue Yeticaster

Blue Yeticaster is a great microphone and boom arm kit for a variety of applications. The USB connector on the microphone itself is a mini USB connector. The boom arm is also quite tall for its size and has tension adjusters at the joints. The Yeticaster mic itself is a strong metal housing and a lot of adjustabilities built right in. It is assembled onto the workbench. The desk clamp fits into the hole that is normally used for cable routing but it’s a secure fit, it’s easy to move and stays in place. In the microphone itself, there are three condenser capsules at the top which gives you a variety of patterns to work with. At the backside, right under the gain knob that adjusts a gain, there are also four patterns.

HyperX QuadCast

This microphone is a very good value at $140. It does give great natural sound coming from this microphone with enough controls other than the missing headphone knob to get a good sound out of this. It comes with a built-in shock mount which means one less purchase. It’s super lightweight, so anything can hold it and it looks really awesome on stream and even on youtube videos. The noise level is found to be lower on this mic than, it is on a lot of other USB condenser mics. so far, this is probably the best USB condenser mic.

On the front side of the microphone, there is a blue logo that indicates what the front is. Below the logo, you’ll find the mute button and when pressed the microphone will mute itself and the light will start to flash. The button is constantly red which indicates it’s unmuted and blinks when it’s pressed to show that the mic is muted alongside a volume knob. Though many people will miss the option to completely turn the microphone off. Below the mute button, you have a headphone volume controller, you can monitor your microphone recording in real-time without any latency. The headphone jack is found on the bottom together with the USB connection and a standard thread mount.  The boom arm has tension and it also has a channel to feed the USB cable so it’s neatly connected. The mic also has a shock absorber which helps to lessen the impact of vibrations onto the mic.

HyperX QuadCast

The exterior design is going to consist of total greatness. The microphone is totally beautiful you will definitely love the red accents all over it. The exterior is made of this very lightweight material, it’s probably just plastic. The top and bottom of the mic are made of very smooth and soft-touch material that makes them feel so nice and premium. With those pieces, you’ve got buttons or knobs on both sides. This mic comes with a shock mount pre-attached in the stand which is actually quite nice that is one last thing that you have to buy.

When you will open the shipping box the main package is long and triangular shaped with the photo of the mic and product information on the back. This microphone is priced at $237.79 and it’s a high-quality product. It also features how the mic can be permanently attached to a workspace depending on how it’s going to be used. This is a condenser mic and has the convenience of being plug-and-play for PC and Mac. Five different pieces of tape hold the package closed so once those are opened we can get inside. When you will open up the box all the parts will be in the package. For the size, it neatly contains everything i.e. Boom Arm, hardware for desk clamp, shockmount, important papers and manual, and, the microphone itself. This microphone pairs nicely with the Audio Technical headphones.

The arm has a very sleek and clean design. It has a maximum reach of 32 inches and has a maximum weight of 2.4 pounds including the mic and shock mount. The arm consists of two parts a c-clamp to attach it to your desk and the arm itself. Within the bottom of the arm, you have a screw which you can twist it tighten or loosen the spring tension inside, it might take you a few tries to get it exactly the way you want it to be.

HyperX QuadCast

The unboxing is pretty special. You just have to slide off the cover after cutting the tape to reveal the actual cardboard box. Inside you will find a ton of foam but it will hold your instructions and a mini USB cable for power. Underneath the lower foam, you will find the Quad cast itself and it will look absolutely beautiful as it is. This mic is quite lightweight which means that it can be supported by pretty much any mic arm that you end up getting for even the cheapest one. So, you could definitely save yourself a lot of money, you don’t have to worry about the weight or anything like that.

On the back of this microphone, you’re going to get a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack for audio monitoring and a mini USB for per power. You will also find the switch for switching between the different polar patterns like omnidirectional and bi-directional cardioid etc. On the bottom, there is your microphone gain knob which is super smooth. On the top, there’s a capacitive mute switch, so it works just by tapping it to not only mute the mic but also show you that it’s muted by turning off the light that you’re going to see on the microphone itself. The hotspot is mostly around the bottom, as that is where it’s mostly illuminated and it looks absolutely beautiful and that is a very great touch on their end.

PERFORMANCE:

Blue Yeticaster

This USB powered microphone is extremely easy to use and has some nice functionalities packed within. The other side of the microphone has two knobs one is for the gain control which is essentially how sensitive and how loud the audio will be and the second knob is a multi-pattern selectional knob with stereo, cardioid, Omni, and, bi-directional modes. The stereo mode would be most useful for vocals or instruments something that would be in hi-fi and to recreate the realistic sound. The cardioid mode is usually used for voiceovers but it would also be ideal for stuff like podcasts or for similar applications like the stereo mode. The omnidirectional mode is usually good for capturing a wide area since it’s similar to how a 360-degree camera captures video except with audio. The bi-directional mode would be best for stuff like interviews or for instruments or something that doesn’t fall into the other categories.

If you want to connect your yeti to a different microphone stand you can, as long as it’s a 5/8 standard threaded mount, and in the case that you want to switch to a table stand just remove the rubber knobs from the side and attach the stand to it be warned though these knobs are really easy to lose. 

The cable management is fantastic. You can have the cable go through the inside of the arm and the little clamps keep the wire from coming out and if you want to attach a pop filter no worries, the arm is built so that any basic pop filter easily attaches to it. As for the placement of the Yeti, you can either have it pointing up or down both ways are fine and personally, I like it pointing upwards because it looks less of my view that way and the shock mount works just as fine.

HyperX QuadCast

The monitoring aspect isn’t a priority to many people or even to the manufacturers clearly, but while you do get a very nice and clean feed from the headphone jack and you can hear yourself clearly, this is directly linked to the microphone game because there is no headphone knob at all on this microphone. So monitoring with these is a little bit pointless.

The sound quality of this microphone that you will be able to hear, will be very clean feed coming from the microphone. This mic is not bassy or tinny by any means but it seems to have the flattest and most natural sound out of any USB condenser mic. It sounds very good though, for avoiding peak in an audition you have to leave the knob around the middle and so that you don’t need to do anything in the post. Like this, you still get a very clean signal but it is kind of hard to hear back onto your headphones whenever you’re monitoring it because the volume going back into your headphones is far too low because of that. That’s what kind of ruins that monitoring experience but this microphone just sounds very good in my opinion.

It sounded very awesome. It doesn’t deal with blossoms too well though which is why you should have a pop filter over it, but without a pop filter, it is honestly totally fine. When you will turn on your air conditioner in your room, you’re going to hear that it picks up quite a lot of noise, but it’s not that bad, and if you have any kind of background music or gameplay going on or just like some kind of audio it will probably drown it out or cancel it out to some extent the very least to the viewers’ ears so that it doesn’t bother them even if that noise is still there. However, you probably can’t get rid of it completely just by those means.

The really good thing about this microphone is its gripes. The monitoring audio isn’t a good experience with these and the volume knob actually goes way beyond the last circle which could indicate that you’ll be peaking if you go past it, which in that case it is a pretty smart implementation or inclusion but you also could have made it so that you can’t go past that point to avoid that issue. This mic doesn’t do too well with pull-ups either on its own but again a pop filter can fix that issue at the very least speaking like normal speaking distance which is from around 1 inch.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, Blue Yeticaster is a great purchase and this mic is a professional product. It’s made with very good materials and will last a very long time. The only weird part about the mic is that it uses mini USB which isn’t bad but in today’s age USB-C might be more convenient. It is a bit expensive but it would be the only big mic to buy. HyperX gives great response and is easy to use. the quality is also decent. This microphone has multiple configurations.

If you’re searching for a high-end entry-level microphone for YouTubing, streaming, or, podcasting you just cannot go wrong with Blue Yeticaster. Blue Yeticaster is expensive than Hyper X Quadcast. If your budget is high, go for Bule Yeticaster and if your budget is low, go for Hyper X Quadcast.
