This is the review of the comparison between two portable Bluetooth speakers from two different brands that are popular in the market. The comparison here is between the Bose SoundLink Micro and the JBL Clip 3. There is 50 dollars difference in their price range and that does bring a difference in their features. INTRODUCTION:
Bose SounLink Micro
The SoundLink Micro from the Bose is one of the budget-friendly speakers available in the market. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred dollars currently on Amazon. This speaker is also IPX7 rated which makes this speaker rugged and durable and also, because of its minimalistic size it is portable too.
JBL Clip 3
The JBL Clip 3 is the updated version speaker of the Clip 2 from the Clip series speakers. This speaker is IPX7 rated and also comes with 10 hours battery life at a budget-friendly price range. This speaker is retailing for around fifty dollars currently on Amazon.
DESIGN:
Bose SounLink Micro
As far as the design it comes with the rubber skin covered making the speaker rugged and durable. It comes in either black, blue, or even very neon orange. Actually, the speaker is covered with rubber skin because this speaker is IPX7 rated which means it is submersible in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes and continues working making the speaker more durable.
It also the strap on the back, which can be used to keep this attached to a backpack, your bike, or anything else when your speaker is connected to. The strap itself is advertised to be tare-resistant and I believe it too. As long as you are not trying to get it wrapped around too oversized, it should be fine. There are only five actual buttons on the speaker. On the front, you have the plus and minus buttons for volume up and down and a functional button that allows you to both plays and pauses your music as well as activating Siri or Google Assistance.
JBL Clip 3
It’s a little bit bigger than the actual Clip 2 its predecessor, it is 5.4 inches by 3.8 inches by 1.8 and I think it weighs a little bit more, I believe this weighs 7.76 ounces so it’s a little bit heavier than the Clip 2 but it’s still pretty darn light for what it is. JBL claims us a little more rugged than the Clip 2 and in this, it doesn’t have a triangle clip, it has the more rounded clip which I kind of like a better built-in carabiner, so this is pretty great. Also, you can see it wraps all the way around the frame which kind of acts like a bumper.
Along with all this rubber around it feels like it will handle a beating if you have it worn on yourself or on your belt. If you look at the back there has a JBL logo and on the side, there is your Bluetooth and your power buttons, and on the front, you have your plus/minus volume and your playback button, there are some click to them and your JBL logo on the front. On the bottom there it does say Clip 3 and inside you got your mini USB and your 3.5-millimeter jack if you have non-bluetooth devices which are really good to have. It does not include the 3.5-millimeter cable like the Clip 2 had I personally don’t mind it.
FEATURES:
Bose SounLink Micro
The SoundLink Micro can be connected easily over Bluetooth and even it also has a companion app that will help you set up the speaker and manage different settings. You can see directly in the app whichever music you are playing through the speaker which I thought was really nice touch. Especially for how minimal the design is. The app allows you to check battery percentage which is awesome. There is also a party mode that allows you to connect two of these speakers together for stereo audio or playing from different parts of your house.
One of the downsides I felt with this is with the battery life. The battery life is advertised to last for only about six hours which is much but even though it is nowhere near as long as many speakers but with the form factor of this small and with this much powerful audio, that is somewhat understandable. But if you are inside and have an external USB battery, you can keep the SoundLink Micro plugged in and keep audio going for as long as you want. Another downside with this speaker is even though it is 2021, it’s still using micro USB for charging not USB-C. But overall, this is one of the incredible speakers that I got to listen to.
Only for the audio-quality and also, for how small it is, my opinion on Bluetooth speakers is that if they are meant to be brought around, they need to be small enough and durable enough to give much thought to. This speaker from Bose definitely matches those requirements and does make it a typ[ical consumer product along with the near pro-sound. Being retailing for around a hundred dollars on Bose’s website and on Amazon, this is definitely a great value speaker. At this price range, you can also buy two of these and use them in stereo mode and party mode.
JBL Clip 3
On the back of the box, there are some of the features, so it does say it has 10 hours of playtime, it does have a 1000 milliamp battery inside with rechargeable lithium-ion, and IPX7 waterproof which means you can drop something in the water fully submersible up to about 3 feet and should have no problem. Then it does have an integrated speakerphone, so if you do have this connected to your Bluetooth on your phone and you get a phone call, you can actually take the phone call and talk and hear the people right through the speaker.
Inside the box, you get the speaker itself, then you get the documentation and on the bottom of the box, we get our standard USB to the mini-USB power cable. If you are buying this to connect multiple Clip 3 together, it does not support JBL Connect so you might want to take that into consideration when buying this. If you want you can put it on the back of your backpack if you have a loop on the back of your backpack, so this thing is pretty portable and pretty versatile.
To pair this speaker first power it up, then turn on the Bluetooth in your Mobile phone and select the JBL Clip 3 from the list and you are good to go. If you have this out at the lake or you’re at a pool, and you have this right by the water and it accidentally drops in, they claim this IPX7 waterproof so what that means is you can drop it into a lot of three feet of water completely submerged and it’ll still work and it kind of floats.
SOUND QUALITY:
Bose SounLink Micro
As far as the sound quality of this speaker, I was really Blown away by how good this speaker sound especially being how small it was. The high and the mids sound very clear and the bass sounds way more powerful than I thought the speaker of this size could handle. When the volume is turned up, you can actually feel the bass coming out of the SoundLink Micro.
JBL Clip 3
As far as the sound quality of this speaker, it kicks out a pretty nice sound. I mean the sound that comes out of this little speaker is pretty amazing. The bass is pretty good, and it is a little bit better than Clip 2. The mid-range on this little speaker is always fantastic and it’s crystal clear. It sounds crystal clear, I don’t think so that you’ll have any problems in picking this little speaker if you’re worried about sound quality.
WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?
In my opinion, the JBL Clip 3 is worth buying than the Bose SoundLink Micro because it sounds better than the SoundLink Micro, it has a better battery life and rated IPX7 waterproof at 50 dollars lesser price than the SoundLink Micro. If you consider the Party mode and stereo sound features then the SoundLink Micro is worth buying because it has that features at a lower price compared to other competitors.
