How to Back Up the iPhone?

Whether you’re new to the world of iPhones or you’re a longtime user, backing up your phone can be a tedious task. Luckily, there are actually some steps you can take to make it a little easier. It is very important to back up your iPhone data. It’s not only keeping your files safe but also restore your iPhone without any data loss in case of any damage or accidental delete.

Backup iPhone with iTunes is an easy process, you can back up your iPhone by connecting your device to a computer and through the iTunes application. Backup Your iPhone Using iCloud

  1. Unlock your iPhone, if it’s already unlocked then ignore it and go to your iPhone “Settings”. 

2. Once you go to your phone settings just tap on your name or your apple id. A little bit of scroll down and find the “iCloud” option. It’s very simple just tap on this.

3. After this a new interface will be displayed with a lot of options and again scroll down and click on the “iCloud Backup” option. Please note whether the iCloud Backup is turned on or not! If it’s not just simply turn on it.

Press “Back Up Now”. It’s done.

This will do is we’ll make sure that your iPhone gets packed up whenever it’s plugged in and it’s connected to wi-fi. If you don’t have access to any of that, you can manually just tap back up now, which will start the backup process for you. Now go back and you need to pay attention to is that all things will be using your iCloud storage not your phone storage like Massages, WhatsApp, contacts and many more

Please note that Apple will give you 5 gigs of free space to manage your backup. If you more than it, you have to pay apple for that.

Backup Your iPhone Data with Mac

Now let’s do it with a mac, It’s the easiest and fastest way I think if you have a mac to do this. Connect your iPhone with a cable with your mac and note that is it charged or not. When it’s starting charging means it’s connected and ready to go.

  1. Launch the latest version of iTunes and go to “The device Management page, and click back up now.

2. iTunes will start to back up your iPhone. By default, this data will save to this location on your computer.

C:\Users\” Users Name” \App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\Mobile Sync\Backup

So please make sure you have enough storage on your C drive. Once the backup is finished, you can see the latest backup information and you can choose to restore your backup when you need.

Create Backup Using Windows

If you go to a windows machine, make sure that your iPhone is plugged in with that. The whole procedure is given step by step.

But sometimes there is no space on your C drive, and you find it’s hard to change the iTunes backup location. So, make that free space before starting the procedure.

For Windows, it’s a big issue to continue the backup process because of the C drive space limitation. But don’t worry, we also have a solution for that. Here is given some steps that how to change the iTunes Backup Location.

When you are trying to back up your iPhone on your computer. By default, iTunes stores the Backup on the C drive of your computer. This can make your C drive full and may lead to bad performance of your computer. So, if we do this then the C drive is less occupied.

Rename Your Backup Location

Backup Locations vary based on how you Installed the iTunes app. If you have installed iTunes from your web browser, you have to go to this location

C:\Users\ {USERNAME}\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\Mobile Sync\Backup

And if you have installed it from Microsoft Store, you have to go to this location:

C:\Users\ {USERNAME}\Apple\Mobile Sync\Backup

Since I have downloaded iTunes using the Microsoft Store, so here showing to open the last location.

Find the Backup Location

  1. Open “This PC” and enter the C drive.
  2. Open “Users”. Choose the Username of your computer.
  3. Now open the “Apple” folder and then the “Mobile Sync” folder. Here you can see the “Backup” folder of iTunes.
  4. Open the “Backup” folder and you will find the backup files of your device.

This is your backup location, next to see the space occupied, go back and right-click on the “Mobile Sync” folder and click the properties.

Rename Your Backup Folder

Once you find your backup location, then rename your backup folder.

  1. Go to the “Backup” folder, do right click and choose “Rename”.

You can enter any name of your choice but make sure that this folder is not named “Backup”.

Transfer the file to the new location.

This new location can be on another Drive on our computer or an External Drive. To transfer the file to a new location just follow those steps.

  1. Open the drive that you want to transfer and create a new folder.

     2. Named it as you want. To make this folder to the new location you have to link the old location to the new location.

      3. To link go to your old location and press Shift+Right click

And click on “Open PowerShell Window”. Now type the following command.

cmd /c mklink /J “Old Location path \Backup” “New Location Path”.

  1. Once you type the command, press Enter. Now, you will see a command which shows that a junction has been created for your file. As soon as this command appears, you will see a new backup folder created. This means whenever a new backup is taken on iTunes it’ll be automatically transferred to this new location here.
