The HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset is arguably one of, if not the best analogue gaming headset around and its performance is only limited by the device that you are connecting it to.

The Kingston HyperX Cloud Alpha professional gaming headset is a great all-round headset built for serious gaming. For a price of under Rs 9000, the HyperX Cloud Alpha is a good choice for someone looking to buy a professional analogue gaming headset.

By TomsHardware
Although we don’t expect perfection from a $100 gaming headset, the HyperX Cloud Alpha’s sound quality comes close. Moreover, Kingston uses reasonably high-quality materials put together in a solid way. Our award is well-deserved.

By NLT
A truly magnificent headset for both gaming and music. Needs either rotatable or foldable earcups design and a hard shell case to truly be a portable headset that I can stuff in my bag and carry around. Overall, great comfort and great sound quality, comes with a decent detachable microphone too.

By TheStraitsTimes
The HyperX Cloud Alpha is probably the best value-for-money gaming headset in the market now.

Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Hyperx Cloud Core

Headsets allow you to hear the audio more accurately compared to something like speakers. They also have a mic, so that you can talk with your friends. So, this one gives you every basic feature and good sound quality which comes under budget.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

This one is the most popular headset in all the Cloud headsets. So, you all know that this headset’s sound and everything is just good enough for the price and that’s why it’s more popular than other Cloud headsets.

DESIGN:

Hyperx Cloud Core

You’re gonna find a ton of premium materials all over this headset like metal, leather, matted plastic, and braided cables. This one looks stylish with that all material that is used. The mic is also detachable, so it will look stylish if you use these like headphones without a mic.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

The build quality and the material used in the making of this headset are very top-notch. The top-notch will really help like most of the headset is made out of metal and wherever there’s plastic use, there is a soft-touch coating and there’s a lot of attention to detail like the intricate fine stitching on the headband as well as the ear cups.

COMFORT:

Hyperx Cloud Core

Comfort might just be the most important part of any headset and this one gets a nice review. With a large super plush over the ear style leather earpads and a very cushiony headband, you will love how these feel. If I did have one complaint in the comfort department, it would be that your ears get quite warm after some time, it’s really not that bad and for some people, it won’t affect them but I find myself taking these off every now and then just to let my ears cool off. That’s kind of the price you have to pay for over the ears leather earpads.

The ear cups do swivel and the headset is adjustable. So, it should fit just about every size head out there. There’s nothing that swivels in to make it smaller for transportation and they are very large sitting on your neck.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

The attention to detail, this is a premium headset and you’re gonna feel that from the moment you take this out of the box. On the top, this is leather and there’s the HyperX logo and below that is your headband which is very plush and very comfortable and there’s a lot of cushioning which is memory foam, so conforms to the shape of your head. In this, if you’re doing long-term gaming sessions or extended gaming sessions, this should not get uncomfortable. There’s a lot of adjustment as well.

These ear cups are HyperX s signature memory foam ear cups and these are really plush and very comfortable. There’s a lot of cushioning and I get didn’t get like any ear fatigue or your sweat or my ears didn’t heat up even with long gaming sessions as well as I use this headset for editing and listening to music. So, there was no problem there and the clamping force like the force that holds your head with is not that much. So, you won’t get like a headache or something by using this for some time.

This is really a high-quality headband which is adjustable, it has like metal latches. So, you can dial in that precise kind of fit for your head as well as the ear cups rotate but they don’t swivel like the HyperX Cloud Stinger.

The headband itself is very flexible, very rigid, and feels really sturdy. Overall, the headset is really comfortable but one thing that I didn’t like to put this headset around your neck, that’s kind of gets uncomfortable because the ear cups don’t rotate.

FEATURES:

Hyperx Cloud Core

You technically get two cables in the box. The first one is your standard attached 3.5-millimeter cable and the second one is a PC adapter which could also work as an extension cable. These braided nylon cables feel very durable but it would have been nice to see a detachable option.

One of the few cons that happen to be a pretty big one is that there are no inline controls or controls on the headset itself. on Xbox to change something as simple as volume, you have to press a button and scroll all the way down the menu and go into another page then adjust it and then go back to what you do it. It’s not as big of a problem as I make it sound especially considering the fact that you could always buy one of those cheap adapters so that you can switch the volume from the controller itself.

The main cons were that it’s not a detachable cable and there are no inline controls and if those problems are $40 worth of significance to you, you could always buy the newer generation but overall for a well-made good sounding product $60 isn’t really that much to ask for.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

In the box, You get the headset then you get the microphone which is detachable and I really like that because most of the headset doesn’t come with the detachable mic and that becomes a pain later. There are also two cables that are included in the box which are really high-quality braided and one of them is the main cable that is 1.3 meters in length that comes with the inline controller for your volume and it also has a microphone switch, so you can change the volume as well as mute your microphone on the inline control and you don’t have to fill it around in the system which is pretty handy while streaming and doing gaming. Also, there’s another cable that has two inputs, so one for your microphone and another for your audio and that’ll help you connect to things like a PC.

This is compatible with basically everything out there, your PC, Mac, ps4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and also VR headsets. So, I really like it and you can also put it on your smartphone and listen to music.

MICROPHONE:

Hyperx Cloud Core

The mic sounds way above average and where I wouldn’t recommend recording an entire voiceover from it if it’s all I had I would definitely use it. Everyone I talked to said that they could hear me crystal-clear and since it is a directional microphone, it’ll also help to block out some of those background noises.

The mic comes standard with a small pop filter attached but if you want to take it off, you can do so. Unlike the main cable, the mic is detachable and slides into the little square slot on the side. HyperX also included a black matching flap to cover that spot when the mic is an end-use which is a great example of detail.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

In the box, you get the headset then you get the microphone which is detachable and I really like that because most of the headset doesn’t come with the detachable mic and that becomes a pain later. There are also two cables that are included in the box which are really high-quality braided and one of them is the main cable that is 1.3 meters in length that comes with the inline controller for your volume and it also has a microphone switch. So, I really like it and you can also put it on your smartphone and listen to music. So, it’s not limited to one platform and it works everywhere.

SOUND:

Hyperx Cloud Core

Sound quality is a very subjective subject in the first place when you add the gaming aspect into it, it gets even harder to talk about. So, my personal opinions these sound pretty bad for the price if you are gonna use them for listening to music. That’s of course due to the fact that they’re made for a more surround type of sound with deeper bass and for those reasons they actually sound amazing for gaming. You can hear the loud sounds and little details all while blocking out the background noise due to those leather ear cups.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

With this headset, HyperX is marketing something called the dual-chamber driver system. The Speaker driver is a unit that converts the audio signal into sound waves. So, what you hear inside the ear and usually in traditional headsets when you buy them, they are using a single chamber driver system. So, all the frequencies including the bass are handled by one single chamber. So, your mids, highs as well as the bass is all done by that single chamber. I have a headset that has good bass that is going to be overpowering or the mids and the high frequencies. So, you won’t get sound clarity. In sound clarity, this headset is gonna nail it and I use this for editing as well as music and you don’t just play games.

In my experience, the headset performed really well. Usually, when you’re buying headsets you get a choice that do you want something that’s bass-heavy, or do you want something that’s gonna give you clear vocals. This headset gives you both though the headset has really good bass as well this has really clear vocals and you can get the distinction between all the sounds like different beats and footsteps, gun fires, explosions happening inside a game or inside a song. All the instruments can be heard separately and you can make out what is being played and that I really like. This helps not only with gaming also for people who are creatives like who do editing and do a lot of work with audio and audio is really important for us, this headset definitely helps me out. There was no compromise in between the bass and the clarity.

I really like the dual chamber technology. There is absolutely no distortion in the headset sound even at the max volume, you’re able to get a clear sound which is not harsh or it does not hurt the ear. So, that’s something I really like and that is the goal with this dual-chamber driver technology is to get clear vocals, clear base as well as no distortion and I really like that. Also, the headset does have passive noise cancellation and that is able to you know muffle out or cancel out things like your keyboard noise or maybe someone speaking in the background or the AC sound.

Overall, the sound quality is really good in my opinion, and personally, I love playing Counter-Strike So, I was able to appreciate the quality of this headset inside that game. I was able to make out different things footsteps, gunfire, smoke screens, all those things happening in different areas of the map, and exactly able to tell where it is happening and now I get it why most of the pro players also prefer the Cloud Alpha.

WHICH TO BUY?

I think, in these two headsets, the Hyperx Cloud Alpha will be great if you are basically in gaming and also use it fo any other purposes. The reason I chose this one because this has a better sound system than the Cloud Core and I think the Cloud Core will not be better for any other uses other than gaming.
