INTRODUCTION:

Jaybird Vista

This is the best product that Jaybird has released yet but it does come at a price of 180 dollars. It is not cheap. Obviously, now in a market where I feel like truly wireless earbuds are very solid and very solid at that under $100 range.

Bose Soundsport Free

This is Bose’s first iteration of this category is a truly wireless earphone. This earphone is available for 249 dollars, which is on the higher spectrum of costs. The majority of truly wireless earphones can be had for around 150 to 200 dollars.

DESIGN:

Jaybird Vista

I think they’re doing this earbud on purpose obviously because Jaybird products are more geared towards people that are out and about and on the go and working out. So, you want something as small as possible, you can throw this thing in your pocket easily. It even comes with a little string next to it, so you can kind of loop it around your belt loop or your bag or whatever and it’s really easy to carry around.

It is IPX7 waterproof, it even says that it’s earth proof whatever that possibly could be. But it really is made to be able to just go out and handle whatever and just not have to worry about it. It comes with a USB-C cable, which is very welcomed, and pretty much should be expected at this point.

Bose Soundsport Free

This product is essentially designed for those, who are very active and are on the run. Also, the fact that the noise isolation on this product is very minimum and it’s purposely designed this way to give you that awareness when you’re out and about performing these activities.

There is the case and charging cradle of the Bose Soundsport Free wireless earphones. This act as basically a means of protection, as well as a means of charging. The actual earphones on the front there, we have a multi-functional button. When you press either side, it’ll tell you how much battery life the case has, and if you press both of them simultaneously, it’ll open up the case and expose your earphone, so you can take them out. Inside the box, there are also two LED lights, that also tell you the battery life, and whether or not it’s charging. So, if it’s steady that means the earphone is charged on the corresponding right or left side, if it’s blinking that means that the earphone is currently being charged.

Moving over to the actual design in terms of the aesthetics, these are really nice looking earbuds, I would personally say to have a very sleek design, however, they do stick out of you substantially, but I personally like that look gives you kind of like a futuristic look with these two black things sticking out of your ears with absolutely no wires. I think these look a lot better than the Airpods, which look like q-tips that are protruding out of your ears.

COMFORT:

Inside the box, it comes with small, medium, and large ear tips but they also have the connected wingtips. They do fit extremely well and the other positive is they isolate noise very well for me, they block out the majority of what’s going on around me. But, the wingtips after a little while at least for me just feels like it kind of digs into my ears.

I noticed at times I could wear them for long periods of time and it’s not an issue and then sometimes I could wear it and then about an hour, it starts to get really uncomfortable. So, I’m thinking it’s just really important, when you put them in your ear, make sure it’s just right and then get it to a point, where you’re used to using them.

Bose Soundsport Free

In the box there, we have a little pouch that gives all your documentation, warranty information, manual, Quick Start Guide, the stuff of that nature. You have extra tips, you have a small version of the ear sport tips, and then you have a large version of the ear sport tips. So, included what the actual earbuds themself is the medium-sized version that should fit the majority of people.

I really like what Bose has done with this. Also, the fact that these can just go into your ears and literally maintain their seal, regardless of how vigorous your activity is these stay in your ears, these will not go anywhere. They’re also pretty comfortable at first when you wedge them in you can feel that they’re there, but overall in overtime, they will slowly begin to kind of disappear, and it sort of feels like you’re not wearing anything.

FEATURES:

As far as using them independently, you actually can use the left or the right by themselves. So, if one is not dependent on the other, it does have Bluetooth 5.0, but it also has this new technology that Jaybird is calling the JBS-1. It’s basically giving you a crystal-clear strong connection with zero to no lag. I still noticed I do want to point this out, I didn’t notice any lag with anything else except occasionally on YouTube using Apple.

The microphone on these is okay. It does the job, again these are more focused on being waterproof, so when they do that it is usually kind of kills the quality of the microphone. The Jaybird Vista is not bad at all especially considering is IPX7 waterproof, which usually affects the quality of microphones with earbuds. When it’s used in the crowd and it’s always playing in the background on the speakers.

The earbuds themselves they don’t use touch control, it does have the button control. The button is the full outside surface, it’s really easy to push. I didn’t have any issues with that, and I didn’t have any issues feeling like I was jamming these into my ears. So, I felt like the controls control everything very well, but I do have a complaint when it comes to the controls. It’s very limited to what you can control.

You can control your volume, but you have to customize it within the app to be able to do that, because if you want to customize your volume, then you have to turn off your ability to be able to turn these off without putting them in the case. Same thing with track control, extremely weird that you can skip the track forward, but you can’t go back to the previous track, and you can’t even go back to the song that you’re on. It’s just not possible using the controls at all and it’s very weird, but it is something that Jaybird maybe can fix in an update.

I’m not really sure why that is the way it is with these, but while speaking of the app I do want to point out it’s pretty much necessary to have these yes you can use them without the app. I’m not saying that you need the app to be able to use them, but you do need the app to be able to get the most out of these because it has the find my earbuds feature which is really convenient.

Overall, what they were able to do the sound you’re getting, and I think the features that you’re getting, I don’t think you’re gonna be disappointed. Definitely not saying these things are perfect because these are some of the cons that I had, the wingtips, the wingtips on the earbuds again at times can get uncomfortable.

I found at times it was okay and then it sometimes it just felt like it kind of jammed into my ear, the ability to not go back to the previous track is a huge problem for me because sometimes I’m listening to a song and I want to be able to go back and listen to that song again and maybe again, but to not have that ability and to not be able to control that within the button itself.

I mean I guess you can summons the smart assistant and ask it to do it, but my complaint would that always is you just can’t do that all the time, and this last one may just be a minor complaint and something that a lot of people may not care about, but if you’re spending a hundred and eighty dollars, it would have been really nice to have this case at least capable to come in sit on a wireless charger and then just go.

I think once you started to bump your price up to that range, I think you need to load in as many features as possible. I think Jaybird for the most part did a really good job with that. The sound quality definitely backs us up as well. It’s just one of those that I think is a very good polished overall product. It does definitely feel like something that, it’s kind of a collection of a lot of the things that Jaybird products have done right in the past, and it’s just kind of combined into one.

Bose Soundsport Free

As soon as you take the earphone out, it will turn on and automatic pair to the last source. The right earbud is the master earbud, and you can use this on its own to handle phone calls and play music. Phone calls will only play audio out of the right earbud, maybe because it also be master earbud. You don’t want to have those earphones out on their own without any protection because they can get lost even though you do have a find my buds feature in the application. You don’t want these to get damaged, because they’re quite small and it can be crushed from a lot of force.

Moving over to the Bluetooth codecs that are provided with this product, both seem to skimp on the latest status available and they feel that the standard Bluetooth SBC for Android users and Windows users is sufficient enough, because it does transfer up to 352 kilobytes per second audio. However, the way the frequencies are transferred aren’t as high quality as apex, where apex prioritizes the frequencies that are more sensitive to our ears over the frequencies that are not sensitive to our ears, which is why I can have a compression ratio of four-to-one and be indiscernible to CD-quality audio.

This product also supports the AAC, which is known for being used with iOS devices like the iPhone or the iPad. So, with iPhone devices, they’re gonna technically get a better sound than those with Android devices. It may not be a discernable difference to you, but it does hurt that to know with most product options of QC 35 and these that the Bluetooth codec isn’t the best that’s possible.

This product is pretty full-featured for its category. A lot of truly wireless earphones one doesn’t even have the ability to control your media from the earbud themselves. They usually just probably have an on and off button, or just play-pause and similar kind of like what the ear pods, you can either only just utilize it to play and pause, or you can just only utilize it to activate your voice assistant.

With the Bose sound sport free wireless, it has a full volume up and down control as well as the multifunction button to play pause, skip forward, and skip back your track, as well as press and hold to activate your voice assistant. On the Left earbud, you have the ability to essentially put the earbuds into a pairing mode. There is the Bluetooth button, so you press and hold that and the Soundsport Free Wireless will go into a pairing mode to connect to a new source. Unfortunately, these do not connect to two sources simultaneously, which is a bummer, but the app does kind of help you in terms of navigating through any previous sources, that you’ve connected to with this product.

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

Battery life on these is also impressive especially, considering the size of everything. The battery life on the earbud is six hours, we’re on the case you’re getting 10 hours. The six hours on the tiny little earbud are really impressive, but this charging case is extremely small, it’s actually really comparable to Samsung Galaxy buds and how small it is.

The other huge plus is if you do pick them up and they’re dead, a 5-minute charge will give you an hour’s worth of use which is good for a run or a bike ride or whatever. So, I do like that they have that feature in this.

Bose Soundsport Free

Battery life on these is stated to be five hours per charge from the actual earphones themselves. However, the carrying case here can retain up to ten extra hours of charge. So, you can essentially charge these twice, when you have the carrying case fully charged, and if you put these in, you will get up to 15 hours of actual usage, which is awesome because basically you’re gonna be bringing this with you everywhere as it’s pretty small, it’s pretty discreet, you can put this in your pocket, in your bag and your purse quite easily.

SOUND:

The EQ control is amazing in Jaybird software. There’s a ton of presets that you can choose from, there’s a ton of them that you can choose from that other users have uploaded and I found that those had some of my favorites compared to the ones that Jaybirds even has built-in.

Another thing is you can even customize the EQ yourself, so you can tweak it to get it sound just like you want. But I also noticed like if you bump up your bass, a little too much or you bump up the treble a little too much, you start to kind of kill the volume. So, it seems like the Jaybirds are only able to handle like a specific range and then once you go above that, it’ll start to kind of knock it down a little bit.

Once you update the App, they actually sound pretty good. For a hundred and eighty dollars, they are not good, they didn’t sound like that. Yet, once you download the app, once you play around with EQ settings, you then realize okay. Because of the features, because of the waterproof, because of the Jaybirds app, and some of those controls and all of that stuff, I started to see the value.

I felt like, if you’re somebody who likes more bass, you can definitely get really solid like thick bass out of these, or if you’re somebody that likes to listen to things a little more flatter, you really are able to kind of get it to that point, or if you’re just like an extremely bright treble rich more leaning towards that in the mids, you can do that as well. So, the biggest thing about these are depending on what it is you listen to, you will be able to tweak it and EQ it and get it to that sound signature.

Once I found this one setting within the EQ, I was able to get it just right and I think that the bass was just definitely thumping, but the treble was still clear, it just had this really nice presence to it.

Sound imaging is really good especially, considering that their earbuds, it’s fairly open it had no problem being able to tell exactly where things were coming from. Even with the mids, I mean vocals had a lot of presence. I mean it’s really weird because these are only six-millimeter drivers, they’re tiny and that might be why they can’t handle EQ like a little too much.

To the call quality, I would say that these are exceptional. I have no complaints, I’ve had no one complained to me particularly that they cannot hear me. They said that my voice sounds very clear, and this is while I’m walking through the busy streets and people still said they can hear me really quite clear with this specific earphone activated. So, I have no gripes in terms of the audio quality with these specific earphones in terms of the microphone’s tendency to pick up your voice and deliver it to who was on the other line.

Only the audio coming towards you from the other caller is played through the right ear, the left ear is left silent. It hasn’t really affected me to really knock a point off in terms of being able to listen to what the other person is saying, but I do understand what people are coming from that it could have just been played to do both ears. But it’s kind of similar to using your cell phone without any Bluetooth headphones, you pick up your cell phone and you put it to either your left or your right ear, you’re only gonna hear audio from that side and whatever the cell phone is placed. So, it can be kind of compared to that kind of scenario, but still, the fact that you do have a fully working left earbud speaker, that can be used to also be audio to be able to better hear that other person in case you are in a really loud environment would have been unwelcome in addition.

I am quite satisfied with what these are capable of especially, for their size, they have a relatively balanced sound. It doesn’t sound like any frequency is protruding over the other. The bass is quite defined, it extends very well, and it has a nice transition over to the mid-range as to not cloudy up that frequency, and caused a lot of problems in terms of being able to hear any subtle details and any subtle sense of tone changes within that frequency. So, the mid-range is left pretty clear, easy to listen, and sounds quite transparent and natural as a result.

The treble on here is kind of where the problem begins, it does sound a bit tinny. This is something I do have issues with IMS earphones in general, it’s usually only the really good IMS earphones, that can really give me a sense of an effortless sound in the treble, that doesn’t sound too tinny and course as a result. These don’t sound horrible, in the sense it’s just that I noticed that they can sound tinny or coarse at times, but overall the treble is still pretty present, it’s pretty clear sound.

The level of cleanliness can be improved upon, but the fact that this level of sound which is satisfactory to me from just day-to-day usage, putting these on going on a run, having these in the office, to be able to hear people, these sound quite wonderful for that usage scenario.

For critical listening, there are obviously better options that you can go towards, but back to the sound stage-wise, these actually sound pretty spacious for their size, and it’s probably due to the fact that these are not isolated in earphones, and they don’t have much of a use, So, this allows the sound to sort of escape out, and give you that sense of a surround and encompassing sort of presentation that I hear with these specific earphones.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH TO BUY?

In my opinion, the Bose Soundsport Free is worth buying. I highly recommend this for you, if you’re looking for the product especially, for your active needs, or if you just want a low profile product for everyday usage, you don’t care about noise isolation, you’re used to earbuds and you want a really good sound and option, these are the way to go. I absolutely love this product.
