JBL Clip 2

The JBL Clip 2 is a waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker. The JBL Clip 2 is a waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker and the price on this is around fifty dollars currently on Amazon. This speaker still a great speaker in the market even though currently Clip 4 is on the market.

Bose SounLink Micro

The Bose SoundLink Micro is a great speaker from Bose at a budget-friend price range. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred dollars currently on Amazon. Even though it’s in the higher price range, it still worth that price as it sounds pretty good and loud enough for its size.

DESIGN:

The speaker fits right in the palm of our hand nice, has little weight to it, and has the same mesh grille plastic speaker with the rubber coating around it. There’s your carabiner clip on the top of the speaker which is nice and stiff and good, if you got this on your bike it’s not going to be flapping around all over the place. On one side, there is your volume up and down, there’s your call button to answer and end phone calls. On another side, there’s your Bluetooth pairing button, there’s your power button, and you’ve got a little gasket right there for your micro USB charging slot. On the bottom, there’s your 3.5-millimeter audio cable integrated into the speaker, that doesn’t come off and on the front, there is a little JBL Brandon and also, there’s one LED on the top of the back.

Bose SounLink Micro

The Bose SoundLink Micro retails for about a hundred dollars online. The SoundLink Micro at first blush is really kind of cool, it’s kind of covered in this rubberized material. It comes in three colors blue, there is bright orange as well as a kind of dark charcoal gray approaching black. This rubberized material feels really good and while it may be a skin that’s covering a plastic enclosure, it gives the Bose a much more kind of high-end feel, and I really kind of like that. In addition, this rubberized wrapper also helps aid in the Bose waterproof rating, in fact, this thing is completely waterproof you can use it near a pool, you can submerge it in water.

This speaker comes in five different colors, black, blue, gray, red, and teal. As far as the features of this speaker, you get Bluetooth wireless, You have got an IPX7 waterproof rating which means you can submerge it in 3 feet of water for about 30 minutes and the speaker does float. Also, you get an integrated 3.5-millimeter audio cable that’s for non-Bluetooth devices, you got a mic for speakerphone calls, and connects with an additional Clip 2 speaker, so that means if you buy two of these you can pair them up together and get stereo sound.

Then you get 8 hours of playtime and with the max volume, you could just cut that in half, so about 4 hours on max volume and eight hours on 50% volume. You can actually save your battery life by using the attached 3.5-millimeter aux cable as a wired connection. The box itself has a nice-looking presentation. Inside the box, you get your micro USB charging cable, then you get your usual books that include your quick start-up guide and warranty information, and then you get your speaker itself.

Bose SounLink Micro

The setup of this speaker is really simple and the app is good, it’s not necessary you can simply use it to set this thing up, and then you never really have to go back into the app if you don’t want to. The app does facilitate certain higher functionality of this product like EQ and things like party mode, for example, if you have multiple Bose SoundLink Micro or multiple Bose wireless speakers, you can kind of connect them all together via the app and create a party mode in which case what you’re listening to on one can then be sent out to all of the other products. Everyday usage as far as getting music to it, playing it back, controlling its volume, and so on is handled largely with your phone through your music streaming service of choice.

The battery on this lasts forever like I have been using this off and on for three weeks and it is still on its initial charge and the battery is currently resting at 50%. Unless you plan on listening to this for hours and hours and hours on end forever, I think you can get a solid few days worth of on again off again usage out of this speaker which makes it really kind of nice because it’s not something that you’re going to run off and worry about.

Another thing is that its sound quality does benefits quite a bit based on where you place it and what I mean by that is what surface you place it on. For example, if I place this on a wooden bookshelf with a very kind of large empty hollow cavity below it, it doesn’t sound as rich and as full as if I set it on a countertop like a true marble or hardwood countertop. There can be a number of reasons for why that is there does appear to be a bit of a passive radiator located on the bottom, and there are tiny little feet that do give it a little bit of airflow underneath and so if the surface is solid, I have to think that that is what is reinforcing this speaker’s bass response just a little bit. If you set it on something a little bit more hollow or something that has aired a little bit more air underneath it, you’re not going to be reinforcing that bass as much. It definitely sounds better when facing upwards although you can lean it against a wall or something like that.

SOUND QUALITY:

JBL Clip 2

As far as the sound quality this speaker is amazing, it sounds great. This speaker rocks and it can provide you with a truly engaging music experience albeit kind of in a background listening type situation. This speaker sounds pretty good with a lot of basses, it’s nice and clear. This speaker does sound pretty good.

Bose SounLink Micro

It does play shockingly loud however when you kind of reach the pinnacle of what it can do as far as either output or if the music becomes a little too complicated for the drivers, it definitely rolls off the volume in order to maintain its fidelity. For bass-heavy hip-hop or rock and roll music, when it gets to the very loud crescendos, if I already have this thing kind of at the peak of its ability you’re going to notice it’s gonna seem like someone came in and just turn the main down just a little bit and then when the music kind of simplifies or gets a little less raucous it’s gonna go back up to its volume.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, the JBL Clip 2 is the one good for you to buy because it is better than Bose SoundLink Micro as the Clip 2 has better battery life and also gets charged soon than the SoundLink Micro, and also for the price, it sounds the same level as the Bose SoundLink Micro.
