Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

JBL Flip 4

The JBL Flip 4 is currently retailing for around eight dollars which is among the lower budget Bluetooth speaker side. These are the updated version Bluetooth speaker of the Flip line-up. The huge change in these compared to its previous version is the app it uses because in the previous it has the JBL Connect while in these it has the JBL Connect Plus.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

Boom 3 is the updated version of the Boom Bluetooth speaker from the Ultimate Ears. There are only a few changes in the newer model compared to the original model. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred and fifty dollars. These sound really good if you want to use these for parties, and these have heavy punchy bass too.

JBL Flip 4

DESIGN:

JBL Flip 4

The speaker has a nice weight to it, a little bit bigger, and a little bit taller than the Flip 3 but other than that Flip 3 and Flip 4 look pretty much identical. It has got a nice carrying strap right there you take this on and off, you got your power button, you got five LEDs, then your JBL Connect Plus button, and there is a little flip there where there will be your 3.5-millimeter auxiliary input for non-Bluetooth devices, and there will be your micro USB charging slot.

On the front, you got your play button, then your volume up and down button, and your Bluetooth connect button. Same little flexible on the side to feel the bass, where you have JBL Brandon on one side, and you got your little play button on the other side.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

On the top of the speaker, you’ve got the Bluetooth button, magic button, and power on button. On the one side, you have a big plus and minus button for volume up and volume down. On the backside of the speaker, there is a rubber strap that goes vertically from up to down, and there is a little Ultimate Ears Brandon. At the end of the strap, that is at the bottom of the strap you have a little flap and when you flip it open there will be your micro USB charging port and there is also an LED indicator near the charging port indicating the status of charging.

These are waterproof and dustproof so even when they’re just looking a bit rugged, they still don’t look bad. This speaker is designed in such a way and as they are built to be robust you’ll be good to go with this speaker for traveling in my opinion. Compared to the UE Boom, there’s nothing really too much has changed, as Styles changed a little bit, the sound is a little bit richer.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

FEATURES:

JBL Flip 4

The box has a beautiful presentation, inside the box you got your usual books and quick start guide, then your micro USB charging cable these are the tangle-free versions and they usually come in bright orange color, and last will be your speaker. This is 100% water-resistant, so you could drop this in the pool but it doesn’t float though, so keep that in mind. Three feet worth of water you’re good but it’s not going to float so if this falls to the bottom of the pool then it may cause any problem to the speaker if you don’t know swimming.

Some of the features in these are you get 12 hours of battery life, these speakers are IPX7 waterproof that’s a major change from the JBL Flip 3 that is not able to submerge but with the Flip 4 you could submerge up to 3 feet and you also got a speakerphone for hands-free calling. You’ve got JBL Connect Plus in these. On the JBL Flip 3 you got JBL to connect, so what JBL connects is you can pair this speaker to your JBL Charge, with JBL Xtreme, and any other JBL speaker that has JBL Connect. But with the Flip 4 you got JBL Connect Plus that’s a little bit better because instead of being able to connect to just one of the speakers, you can connect up to a hundred speakers but the main problem is you can’t connect to the older speakers. So all of the new JBL speakers are going to feature JBL connect plus and you can connect 100.

The first thing you gonna want to do is download the JBL Connect app, from the app you’re going to have a few options. If you happen to have 100 JBL speakers that feature JBL Connect Plus you can hit party mode and that’s how you pair them up. If you’ve got two JBL Flip 4, you could connect them to left and right stereo channels. You also have the option to change the functionality of your play button, so you can have it with the standard play and pause, or you can have to control your voice assistant that’s your Siri and your Google Assistant.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

The box comes in a nice presentation, nice crumb fix, and artwork on the box. Inside the box, you got your speaker themselves, micro USB charging cable, charging brick, and usual books, and a quick start-up guide. It looks durable, feels durable, and it’s not gonna break. This particular speaker has 15 hours of battery life so it’s really good if you’re a traveler, and if you love to travel around then these are the ones for you because they’re gonna last a long time.

These also feature party link-up speakers with this particular model as well across the UE range. If you find a lot of people have UE Boom and where maybe Boom one, two, or three, or Megabooms then you can link them up and again go back to the 360 audio and have a great sound experience. You’ve got your carabiner clip so you can clip this on to whatever you want. The company claims that these are drop-proof up to 1.5 meters, meaning if you were to drop it to about 1.5 meters it will not break. There’s a lot of speakers out there for five hundred fifty dollars if you drop them, they would break.

JBL Flip 4

SOUND QUALITY:

JBL Flip 4

I tested out the sound quality on these with the maximum volume on and this speaker really does sound great, for a speaker of this size it’s nice and loud, has a lot of basses, and it sounds clean and nice and clear. Also, I tested out the sound quality of the speakerphone on these it really sounded good to me and also to the person on the other side. Obviously, we are not going to buy a speaker for phone calls but this additional feature is really useful when you are busy doing any work and your phone is connected with this speaker. It’s not great for a phone call but still good and for music, it is really great.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

The bass is somewhat lacking when I tested out the sound quality on this. It’s got 360 audio effects meaning wherever you place this in your room, the sound is going to come equally. At whatever angle you place this, it’s gonna sound the same and the volume is gonna be the same on each and every side. If you don’t like the sound quality on these out of the box, then you do get the Boom app with these, so you can use the equalizer in the app, and adjust the bass, treble, etc to as you want.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR THE PRICE?

In my opinion, The JBL Flip 4 is better for its current price range of eighty dollars because these sounds good, has really better battery life, and are IPX7 rated too, so for such a lower price, almost half the price of Ultimate Ears Boom 3 it does work good and worth its price.
