Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

JBL Flip 5

The JBL Flip 5 is one of the popular portable Bluetooth speakers in the market after the Flip 4 that is from the same line-up speakers. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred and twenty dollars on Amazon currently. This neither retailing for a higher price nor for a lower price, it is on average but still, it performs well for its price range.

BoAt Stone 1500

The boAt Stone1500 is the latest and greatest speaker from the house of boAt. This is the only speaker from boAt that has higher watts drivers that is 40W which gives a great and loud sound. Basically, boAt is an Indian brand but manufactured in China. This is one of the popular Indian brands that produce great audio-related products.

JBL Flip 5

DESIGN:

JBL Flip 5

The JBL Flip 5 speaker has a pretty nice design, we’ve got a nice metallic JBL logo on the front. We got our buttons on the top there that includes volume up and volume down buttons, then our play/pause button, and when you double-tap it, it’ll skip to the next song, and then we got our party boost button. Then we got on the back, a power button and Bluetooth pairing button.

Also, on the back, we have the USB Type-C port which is used to charge it. Having the USB Type-C for charging makes it so that this can be a lot more water-resistant without having to have a rubber gasket flap that goes on over there, so that is pretty useful. We also have a little indicator light that will light up right there as well. There is a big feature that separates JBL from a lot of other portable speakers is it has bass radiators on the side right there.

BoAt Stone 1500

In terms of the design, it’s got the fabric all around, and essentially, this reminds you of the boAt Stone SpinX, if you’ve seen that, you’ll notice that this boAt Stone1500 is basically a boAt Stone SpinX or SpinX 2 on steroids. It’s been jacked up with steroids, and it’s truly a beast when it comes to its size and its weight. As far as the weight on this, just carrying it without the strap, it’s like a workout for your arms because it is that heavy and that speaks about the quality of the components that’s packed inside. It feels really dense hefty, and it speaks a lot about the power that this speaker can push out.

It’s got multifunction controls on top, and you can set the speaker vertically and listen to it, or you can lay it on its side. The main two drivers, the speaker drivers are where the boAt logo is, so if you’re sitting in front of the boAt logo which is essentially the front of the speaker, you will get the full blast of the sound, just the opposite section of the boAt logo there is nothing. So, if someone is sitting behind that when the speaker’s kept flat, they would miss out on a bit of the sound because it’s a front-firing speaker if you set it down on its side.

FEATURES:

JBL Flip 5

The JBL Flip 5 speaker comes in a nicely packed box. In the box, the speaker itself comes in a foam type of box, and then also in the Box we got a little box with a nice kind of reflective design on it which contains the instruction manual, a couple of other warning manuals, and the charging cable which is a USB Type-C cable but it does not include the wall brick charger to plug it into the wall so you could plug this into maybe a laptop or an already existing power brick adapter to charge the speaker. If you want to link multiple of these speakers together you can use the party boost button, which I have done and it’s extremely easy. I didn’t even think it was working at first but that’s just because the volume was low. I just turned it up and it worked instantaneously super good.

Actually, this speaker is a little bit bigger than the previous generations and with the JBL Flip 3 I was actually able to store it in a topless-like sunglass compartment of my backpack but this is a little too big to store in there. So, I kind of just have to throw it in the bag and it’s pretty durable so it will be good to go. This speaker has 12 hours of playtime, that’s the battery life it can last up to. This speaker weighs approximately 1.19 pounds and it takes about two and a half hours to charge the battery fully charged. It does have a nice auto power-off feature, which will save you a lot of battery if you’re not using it for a certain amount of time.

Another thing to note about this speaker is that, it does not have an aux port and so you’ll have to only pair it through Bluetooth is the only thing that you’re gonna have to do to pair which is super easy. But it’s a drawback and a little inconvenient to not have that option available to you like you did on the JBL Flip 3 and Flip 4. But that also helps it to make this speaker waterproof up to 3 feet. This speaker also doesn’t have any built-in voice integrations like Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa and so that’s something to note but it also makes it keep it at a smaller price point too.

BoAt Stone 1500

As far as the specs out of the way so this speaker is a 40 watt RMS speaker, it’s the loudest that boAt has produced till today and it gets pretty loud. Apart from that, it packs a four thousand milliamp-hour battery inside. The boAt claims that it gives you up to eight hours of continuous playback but that is obviously not at 100% volume that is probably around fifty to sixty percent volume. But with that four thousand milliamp-hour battery packed inside, you are good to go. This is also IPX6 water and dust resistant and it’s also got a very sturdy build, so it’s also shock-resistant and it’s got true velocities to your function.

In terms of connectivity, apart from Bluetooth you also have aux, and a dedicated USB port, so you can plug in your pen drive and listen to your favorite song, and it also supports FLAC and WAV format, so if you want to listen to lossless format songs, it’s good to go. It also has an inbuilt microphone, so you can answer and end calls through this and call quality was ok so long as you are as facing the speaker in front, that is where the boAt logo is, so that’s where the microphone is. So, if you are sitting more or less close to that area, you are clear to the other person and you can hear them very clearly.

One drawback that I have with this is that it uses Bluetooth version 4.2 and not Bluetooth version 5.0, which is a bummer especially when they’re giving you USB Type-C. I mean I don’t know why they wouldn’t offer Bluetooth version 5.0 and the main reason is that when you’re watching videos and hearing the sound through this speaker, there is a tad bit of lag because of the old Bluetooth version which is a bit annoying when you’re watching movies or whatever. But if you listen to songs that’s not a problem. It also has two EQ modes, so you have git the outdoor mode and indoor mode, based on your setting and it does make a difference to the sound.

JBL Flip 5

SOUND QUALITY:

JBL Flip 5

This has a big improvement from the JBL Flip 3 for sure, especially on the low ends. You do get a nice deeper end obviously, don’t feel it vibrating through your whole body, I mean unless you’re holding the speaker then maybe. This one is really loud, this is a very loud speaker so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. It’s going to be screaming out loud, I normally turn this up like 50% volume in my office when I’m playing music for everyone, and it’s really loud if I was max’s out it probably be heard throughout the whole huge warehouse-type office. Definitely, you’ll be getting that loudness you want for the money that you’re paying for, for sure.

BoAt Stone 1500

As far as the highs, where the sharper-sounding instruments are I have to say that the boAt Stone 1500 handles the highs like a boss. It was clean, it was crisp, it was sharp, and it was not artificially over-sharpened. It was just right and all the instruments in that spectrum of sound were very audible, so the highs are really good. Coming to the mids where the vocals lie and which make up for the body of the music, I have to say even the vocals sounded very good. Not hollow, not too upfront, not muffled by any other frequencies, it maintained very good separation from the highs and the lows, vocals already natural and maintained a lot of the warmth that is naturally present in a voice, and it sounded very good even at max volume.

BoAt Stone 1500

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

In my opinion, the boAt Stone 1500 is worth buying than the JBL Flip 5, even though its price is higher because it sounds better, it has better features, and it does have better battery life.
