Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech Craft

If you want a keyboard that would look really good on your desk, something with that you could control multiple computers then the Logitech Craft obviously does that. It does satisfy those needs extremely well but the Keyboard has other features which clearly contribute to its price point, notably the dial.

Logitech MX Keys

The Logitech MX Keys is a more premium keyboard designed for productivity. Logitech is well known for producing some great peripherals for your computer, Including top-notch mice, headsets, computer speakers, and a variety of keyboards for PC and tablets. So, when they put out a high-end wireless keyboard that’s specifically designed to boost productivity, it’s certainly worth a look.

DESIGN:

The dial on this is called the crown by Logitech and it is a glorified mechanism frankly to change the brightness and volume, and that’s especially redundant when the function row keys have specific shortcuts for brightness and volume. Logitech allows you to add certain functions to it in Apps like Photoshop but it’s never been something I’ve been able to take advantage of, many complain that the Touch Bar on MacBooks isn’t useful but this dial is something else.

I do have a problem with these stabilizers, particularly, with the spacebar. If you tap the spacebar every so often, you’ll hear a bit of a squeak, almost like a little tiny Mouse is inside your keyboard, and it’s not pleasant at all. There seems to be a particular space on the actual spacebar that if you hit in that little tiny zone, it produces a minimal squeak and it’s actually starting to drive me a little bonkers.

Logitech MX Keys

What makes the Logitech MX Keys so special is you’ll find it’s built on a single metal plate making it extremely durable and extremely heavy. This weight makes the Logitech MX Keys more ideal for permanent desktop use rather than a portable keyboard for your mobile device. Despite its slim design, the brushed aluminum body, and thin lowercase sans-serif keytop legends give it a nice modern look. Logitech MX Keys is a full-size keyboard with 108 keys including a number pad, and a dozen function keys that double as multimedia controls.

If you like typing on low-profile laptop-style keyboards, you’ll probably really like the MX Keys. If you’re more concerned about ergonomics and don’t want to spring for the wrist pad, you may experience some discomfort over the long run. Overall, the MX Keys has a lot going for it, the keyboard itself looks and feels great and is built with extreme durability. It’s got great connectivity options, and the fact that you can sync up to three devices is definitely a big bonus.

The dial is a glorified mechanism frankly to change the brightness and volume, and that’s especially redundant when the function row keys have specific shortcuts for brightness and volume. Logitech allows you to add certain functions to it in Apps like Photoshop but it’s never been something I’ve been able to take advantage of, many complain that the Touch Bar on MacBooks isn’t useful but this dial is something else.

The charging on this is easy because it’s USB-C and I bought this at the time with the MX2S but Logitech has the MX3 which is also USB-C so they’d be easy to charge if that’s the combo you’re considering buying. Another reason I really like this keyboard is that it has both Mac and PC Key bindings and shortcuts on the keys and it works flawlessly. No complaints there, it’s fantastic.

Logitech MX Keys

When it comes to features, Logitech did add some cool stuff you can either connect the keyboard via Bluetooth or by using the included 2.4 gigahertz USB receiver. We didn’t perceive any noticeable lag which will benefit gamers. Being wireless, the MX Keys also lets you sync up with up to three different devices on different wireless channels. You’ll find three keys on the right side of the board, which let you conveniently switch between devices. So, if you use two PCs or want to pair the keyboard with your iOS or Android devices, you’ll be able to seamlessly switch back and forth.

Probably the coolest feature is the proximity sensors, you’ll find the keys illuminate when your hands approach the keyboard, and then also fade when you move them away. It may seem a little gimmicky but it helps with battery performance, which can last up to 10 days. We also found Logitech’s Options software to be quite useful. We could remap all the function and media keys with various shortcuts which goes towards improving productivity especially. if you’re a power user.

PERFORMANCE AND EXPERIENCE:

Logitech Craft

I think the Logitech never just hit the promise of giving features of a Dial you’d see on a Microsoft Surface which is clearly their inspiration but unfortunately, the Software never got there. The typing experience is great, I like that it has a number pad and it offers a chiclet key experience that you’d find on Apple’s Magic Keyboard. It does have backlight keys built-in but that will drain your battery, for months and months I’ve had to charge the keyboard once a week which is very frequent but thankfully with a new software update I’ve been able to permanently disable the backlight keys and the battery lasts weeks and weeks which is great.

Logitech MX Keys

The battery performance is impressive and it’s got some great features for those that demand a little more than the basics from their peripherals. This keyboard has a very low profile, so if you’re a fan of that flat laptop-style keyboard, you’ll love the typing experience. There’s minimal key travel but you do miss out on the tactile feedback. In fact, Logitech refers to their low profile membrane keys as laptop typing with each of the keys having a circular indentation in the middle. We found this makes the Logitech MX Keys feel a little more receptive and comfortable to type on. However, if you’re more used to higher-profile keyboards with your wrists in a more natural position, you may find the MX Keys uncomfortable with extended use. Logitech also offers a memory foam wrist rest for those wanting a more ergonomic wrist position. The wrist rest does cost extra, and we did feel that it should have been included as an out-of-the-box feature given the premium pricing for the standard keyboard.

Logitech MX Keys

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

If you can afford the Craft keyboard, go ahead and buy it! But your paying for a luxury and most of the money is going on that dial and so if you want the dial technology, you can go for it. If you don’t need that instead you can actually buy Logitech’s MX Keys. It’s basically the exact same keyboard as the Craft but it doesn’t have the dial and for that, you will save some money. For a lower price, you get the same style keys including the number pad, USB-C charging, the Mac and PC shortcut keys, and even the backlighting if that is useful to you with the MX Keys. And also, the most important feature for me anyway is that I can connect multiple computers with one keyboard and mouse. So, in my opinion, the Logitech MX Keys is worth buying than the Logitech Craft.
