INTRODUCTION:

Logitech G502 Lightspeed

This is the wireless version of Logitech G502 Hero and also there are some more differences. The question that arises in this model is this mouse more with than the G502 Hero for the price of $110.

This is a wired mouse with some decent features. The design and comfort are not changed that much but the features and the software make this popular mouse for gaming. 

DESIGN:

In the box, you’re gonna find a mouse, a little weight / USB carrier, some documentation as well as a nice braided cable. Now, if you’re familiar with the design of the previous versions of the G502, you are basically familiar with the design of the G502 Lightspeed. It has the same ergonomic feel as the others and if you like those mouse, you will also enjoy this mouse as well.

This thing is like an engineering gem, not only is it wireless but it’s also a lot lighter than its previous iterations. The G502 Lightspeed is gonna weigh in at just 114 grams without any of the additional, 16 grams worth of weights that they actually put in this little kit that they give you. This is actually 13 grams lighter than the G502 Hero SE which weighs at 127 grams.

As for the dimensions, the Lightspeed has identical dimensions as the previous iterations coming at 132 millimeters long, 75 millimeters wide, and then 40 millimeters tall. The mouse’s dimensions and way to make a great option for most people or you have big or small hands.

Now, the build quality of this mouse is just as good as the previous iterations. It’s really nice. The majority of it’s made of high-quality plastics that just make it feel really good when you’re trying to use it and it’s really comfortable as well. I have tested it for hours and hours without any comfort issues whatsoever. The mouse wheel has this nice like rubber grooved padding on it but the actual wheel itself and underneath the padding is made of metal. So that’s nice.

The last thing I want to mention about the build quality and the design of the actual mouse is gonna be on the charging port. The entryway on the mouse is made for a specific size, the micro-USB cable and that is great for when you actually plugged in because it looks nice and seamless but if you’re going to do this, please make the opening larger than what like a typical size would a typical cable would fit in.

Logitech G502 Hero

At first glance, the G502 Hero isn’t gonna look any different from the previous two mice, that being the Proteus core and the Proteus Spectrum. I feel personally, the G502 has always been the most comfortable mouse for me.

This comes in at 125 grams which is pretty light for a mouse I think but it also comes with these modular weights that you can put in the bottom of it. In the sections underneath the mouth to design, so you can put those weights in certain areas if you want a heavier mouse on the bottom or on the front or on the sides. It gives you real control here which is good. So, by itself 125 grams then all those weights together if you put them all in at once, you’re gonna add an additional 18 grams with each little weight being 3.6 grams.

In terms of its design, it is a free angular kind of a more aggressive-looking Gamer mouse. It comes in at 5.7 inches long by 2.9 inches wide and sits a 1.62 inches tall.

The one thing about gaming mice which is different from all other gaming peripherals is this really comes down to your specific preference in what you look for in a mouse. So, for example with the size of this, I think for me it feels great. I have eight-inch hands from the tip of my fingertip down to the bottom of my palm, so for my fingertip grip which I use while I’m gaming, it just feels perfect for me. If you have larger hands or smaller hands obviously finding a mouse that is the right size and the right weight is gonna be best for you. A big thing is high-mass designed and how it feels for you.

On both the sides of the mice are the rubber textures where your thumb and your pinky finger gonna kind of sit and does have this sort of tessellated texture of embedded into it for you enhance grip.

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Now, there are a few differences from those versions of the mouse to this one. So, first off this mouse is wireless. The second difference that I spotted is going to be the actual wheel on itself and the wheel is identical to that of the one you’ll find on like the G5 and the G900. The wheel works just as well as the older G502 wheels, it’s just basically that’s hollow and I imagine that Logitech switches the design for this wheel just kind of helped decrease the weight of the mouse. Especially since they had to add a battery into this mouse.

The last difference I spotted was the base of the mouse and instead of having just one housing in here for the weights, there are actually two housings on the base of this mouse. The top one’s gonna be for your weights and the bottom one’s gonna be for your power play adapter if you have the power play. There’s also a really cool, nifty, and a really nice place you can put your USB dongle in here if you want to take this on the go. This makes it a lot easier to carry this thing around.

The wheel isn’t solid like the previous G502 but it does work as well as the free-scrolling is great too. Also, unlike the G502 SE Hero, the wheel doesn’t wobble.

It’s going to use the Logitech Hero sensor which is the same sensor that’s going to be used on the G502 Hero and the SE Hero. You can more or less expect like the same performance out of this mouse as you have on the G502 Hero or the G502 SE Hero which is the same mouse but different colors. Now the sensor allows for the same maximum dpi of 16000 and most people will never utilize like that maximum dpi. Quite frankly, it’s more a selling point nowadays. So, the mouse also has those 11 programmable buttons, they sound and feel identical to those that are on the SE Hero.

On the mouse, you have your standard left, right, and middle-click buttons, then you’re gonna have your scroll wheel, left and right-click buttons. You have two buttons that are attached to your left click button and then you have three buttons that are going to surround your thumb where thumb actually lies. By default, the buttons attached to your to the left click button are gonna be used for kind of raising or lowering your DPI, and then the button that’s going to be attached to the very tip of your thumb is what’s considered the DPI shift button. This changes the DPI to whatever you have it set in the software.

Now, along with those two buttons, you have two buttons in the middle of your mouse. The upper one locks and unlocks your mouse for a hyper scrolling and then the lower one by default is gonna be used to change mouse profiles.

Does this wireless mouse actually perform as good as the wired versions and to say it directly, it does. With this mouse, the connection is absolutely rock-solid and I did not notice any delays or missteps during the past few weeks that I’ve been testing it, it was just awesome. The more awesome thing is that this thing feels so light.

Logitech G502 Hero

There are three differences in the G502 Hero that are gonna separate it from its past releases. The first off is gonna be that brand new hero sensor in this mouse. The new optical hero sensor goes from 10000 dpi all the way up to the 16,000 dpi mark. Now, where a lot of people can be able to take advantage of that, not really but you look at a lot of the companies out there that are putting out gaming mice and 16,000 is kind of like the new standard. So, this kind of release is gonna kind of refresh that and hit the 16,000 marks like most companies are putting out.

This is an improvement over the previous G502 sensor which was the Pixart PMW 3366 which only went up to 12,000. For me personally, I usually keep my DPI around like 2200 or so that’s what I’m most comfortable with. So, I’m definitely not gonna be reaching up to the higher marks anytime.

The second change is gonna come along with the cable here. This is a redesigned thinner braided cable that is going to aim to prevent any sort of kinking in the cables which did occur. The cable here is permanently bent. So, with the thinner version of this new cable on this mouse, this is gonna be aimed to hopefully prevent that. The third improvement definitely pretty subtle, they just updated their logo.

On the G502, we have 11 programmable buttons. Now, with their sniper button that’s pretty much gonna be like where this button is right here where your thumbs gonna sit. This is going to lower your dpi to the lowest setting that you set it at inside the software and I love this because no matter what game you’re playing if you are a sniper, just getting that really quick adjustment if you’re liking to know a high attendee situation, you hit that it’ll bring it all the way down to the 200 dpi which I set. It’s gonna let me know really narrow in and get a more precise shot. People might not use that, you can set that to be something else if you like but it’s just another reason for me why I always go to this mouse when I’m gaming.

After plugging in, I didn’t notice any changes which are good. The main difference being that upgraded here a sensor going to 16,000 dpi. With this optical mouse with the previous versions, if you were using this on a white surface, the mouse would not track at all but I noticed now using this on a white desk or a notebook, it still tracks. So, if you’re someone who has a white mouse pad or you just have a white desktop with no mouse pad, it’s gonna work fine for you.

BATTERY:

Logitech G502 Lightspeed

This is just as impressive when it comes to battery life, maybe a little bit more impressive. I’m on my computer using a mouse for hours every single day and this thing lasted for over a week with RGB on 100% brightness and the polling rates at 8,000 ms. I actually completely forgot about the battery life testing that I was doing until I alerted that it was low on battery life like that’s how long it lasted. It was super impressive and you should have no issues with the battery life at all. You probably will get like a week or two out of the charge. It’s great unless you like to use a retractable USB cable.

I like to charge my wireless mice with a cable such as a retractable cable. You plugin, it’s nice and easy, keeps your setup somewhat clean. It’s easier for you but with this mouse, the cable doesn’t fit into the port. The cable is way too thick for this port.

Logitech G502 Hero

As this is a wired version, there are no necessary to charge this one. Without any hassle of charging you can use this mouse whenever you want to. But, there is just one problem which is the cable which gets sometimes annoying. 

SOFTWARE:

Logitech G502 Lightspeed

The software is great and it’s nice and clean. You can program all the buttons on your mouse to do various things such as launch applications or set them up as macros. Within the software, you also have a control that those DPI settings as well as your RGB settings too. This doesn’t have many options for gaming like other high-cost mice.

Logitech G502 Hero

We do have an enhanced sort of software coming with the G hub which just got released alongside the mouse. This is where you can go in and change all your DPI settings. If you’re very familiar with the software, so odds are nothing new to you, and with their upgraded G logo on the mouse that is pretty much your only source of RGB lighting on here.

You can go in and set it to be a fixed color, it could cycle throughout the color spectrum, breathe colors in and out but they’ve also added their screen sampling effect which I thought was pretty interesting. It pretty much samples colors from on your display and it’ll bring it to your mouse. So for example, if my wallpaper is blue, it’ll light up blue if I put up a new window on there. Whatever color you have in the certain section of the screen that you choose the sample, it’ll then reflect that color onto your mouse which is pretty cool. It’s also going to go in and link to the light sync speakers which kind of makes this whole screen sampling thing.

WHICH TO BUY?

There is a big price difference between the Logitech G502 Hero and G502 Lightspeed mouse. Also, there are many differences in features. If you are tight in budget and you’re comfortable with the wired one and also with the features of G502 Hero then this will be great to buy and the price is also very low comparatively. The G502 Hero costs around $70 which is $40 less than the G502 Lightspeed. If you want a wireless version with some extra features, then it’s good to try on G502 Lightspeed.
