Detail Review:
INTRODUCTION:
Logitech MX Master
The MX Master is a premium mouse built as a comfortable, well-rounded work peripheral. With that premium quality, you can expect a premium price. This mouse can be used as a gaming mouse if your expectations are appropriate.
Some of you searching is probably familiar with the MX lineup of mice from Logitech. Some would even say that the MX lineup is they’re sort of premium executive class, as someone who bought an MX duo way back in the day, the experience was different from any other mouse product available at the time.
Logitech MX Master 2S
The Logitech MX Master 2S possibly the best workspace and creative mouse for your PC ever. Now, this mouse is not a new mouse, in fact. MX Master mice have been known for their productivity and their creative workflows and they’ve been rated as one of the best mice available. The MX Master 2S is a revision to the MX master, a second division.
DESIGN:
Logitech MX Master
Inside the package, you’ll find a 4-foot micro USB cable for charging, Logitech’s well-known tiny unified receiver dongle that can actually work with up to six devices at a time, and the master mouse itself. The mouse is black and bronze and has an overall matte and rubberized finish.
It roughly 145 grams, some might find that a bit heavy for gaming. I personally do as a Corsair M45 user but some people have mouse weighs around 150 grams anyway, so I found the weight very familiar. Overall, for the average person using the MX Master as a work first type of mouse, they’ll find it to be very capable but for the more hardcore gamers, you’re probably better off looking at Logitech G series of mice where they have some pretty fantastic options like the G502 which is great for productivity as well.
Logitech MX Master 2S
The mouse itself takes the design of the original MX Master to a new level and it’s extremely ergonomic. It fits in your hand really well. You also have this new diamond pattern thumb rest area which looks absolutely fantastic.
More importantly, if you are on your computer or PC for long periods of time and you are using the mouse non-stop, using a mouse with this kind of an ergonomic finish and feel will prevent your hand from getting the mouse strain that you get from traditional mice. Now, I also use the Apple Magic mouse and I needed to install the rubber grips to give it a slightly better ergonomic feel for my hand and this makes the Magic mouse slightly better but still fails in contrast to what the MX Master can do in terms of ergonomics.
It weighs in at 145 grams, so it’s relatively lightweight but feels really well-built. It’s made entirely out of plastic except for this diamond part which seems like a leather rubber sort of material.
FEATURES:
Logitech MX Master
Up top, you’ll have the usual left and right buttons, a scroll wheel, and a mode shift button. On the left side, we find the battery indicator and another scroll wheel which is very comfortably positioned, back and forward buttons, and this thumb rest right here which is also a button meant for gestures. On the bottom, you’ll find the power slider, a connect button, Logitech’s darkfield sensor that works even on glass, and a one-two-three selector switch. On the front of the mouse, you’ll find that power input for the micro USB plug.
Now, the MX Master is a dual connectivity mouse, meaning you can either use the included dongle to connect to a PC or you can use Bluetooth. On the cool part of that is you can use the mouse for up to three different devices using that selector button on the bottom, so this is perfect for people who use say for example a laptop and a desktop at the same desk and want to be able to quickly switch between them or people who want to pair it to their phone.
If you’ve never tested a Logitech mouse with their free-spinning scroll wheel, you’re missing out. It is especially useful when dealing with super long documents or large excel sheets and with the MX Master, the scroll wheel is a little bit different than previous iterations in a way that I think is significantly better. You can still select between a free scroll, the spinning one, or rachet scroll with the push of a button but with ratchet mode now, you can actually set a threshold of how fast you can click it before it’ll start to free scroll anyway. So, this can be set up in Logitech’s software.
A feature that they brought back from an older iteration is the horizontal scroll wheel. The same goes for the gesture button, you can program it to do a bunch of different things but the overall gestures are the same. You hold down the button with your thumb and move the mouse up, down, left, or right.
What’s different about the MX master compared to a lot of Logitech’s products recently that are focused on gaming well. It’s an office productivity work mouse. I mean gamers aren’t gonna accept wireless but people who are just working on all sheets. More important features are things like not having to deal with cords, having a nice aesthetically pleasing workspace, and practical stuff like with the good battery.
The back and forward buttons were placed a little bit too far towards the rear of the mouse and as something that I personally use all the time I can definitely agree with that statement. Sometimes found ownself pressing the forward button instead of the back since they’re stacked rather than being one in front of the other. The other thing is that the gesture control thumb button is a little bit stiff to press and when bound to media controls like volume adjust, it’s a little bit difficult to get the right level of granularity and the control.
Logitech MX Master 2S
There are buttons in the thumb rest as well as additional buttons for your thumb and a scroller right next to the buttons for easy access. Now, there is a horizontal scroller. So, if you do things like edits, this can come in really handy. You also get your standard set of left-click and right-click buttons which are nice and really tactile, really comfortable, and the position in which you put your palm on the mouse makes the reach of these buttons really easy.
You also have a new scroll wheel. This scroll wheel is good because it’s customizable, you can switch between a clicky scroll wheel or a completely smooth scroll wheel on the mouse.
I use it on my iMac for my edit workflows and it comes in really handy to scroll through the timeline of my video edit using the horizontal scroller. Now, more importantly, this mouse can be used as a Bluetooth mouse or if you don’t have Bluetooth on your device for some reason, you can also use it for higher precision tracking using the dongle that is included inside the box. So, you can just plug in the dongle and you can get RF connectivity with your device as well.
You can also connect to three devices simultaneously. If you do install Logitech options on these devices, you also get this new feature called Logitech Flow that allows you to copy information directly from one machine to the other whether a PC or a Mac seamlessly and this works should rather easily, this can come in really handy.
Now, the coolest feature of this mouse is that it’s extremely precise. It does have a 4000 DPI sensor that tracks even on glass. If you have a glass desk or a glass table, this works on that as well, so it can come in really handy for all sorts of users. The DPI of the mouse can be set in increments of just 50 DPI from 200 all the way to 4000 depending on your kind of usage. You can really use this Mouse for gaming as well, a lot of people have recommended using this for gaming as well and I personally haven’t gamed using this mouse but people have said that it’s a generally good mouse to a game with.
The mouse has a total of 7 buttons and two scroll wheels, a horizontal scroll, and a vertical scroll. You can use a 2.4 gigahertz wireless signal using the dongle or you can use Bluetooth and connect up to 3 devices. Logitech flow is one of the main reasons that you would want to buy this mouse.
BATTERY:
Logitech MX Master
The battery life is rated for 40 days of use in between charges and it charges pretty quickly. It uses the normal USB cable to charge the mouse but the USB C will be more flexible for charging.
Logitech MX Master 2S
Another eye down to this mouse is the fact that it uses micro USB charging and it does have an inbuilt battery which gives you upwards of 60 days of full charge. In my case, I’ve been using it for about three months without requiring a charge, so that’s absolutely fantastic.
I also travel with this mouse quite a lot because of the long battery life because of not requiring a recharge and because the recharge port is located on the right side of things versus what you see on the Apple Magic mouse where you need to stop using the mouse if you are recharging the mouse. It does come with a micro USB cable for charging up the mouse but you can use any other charging cable to do that.
SOFTWARE:
Logitech MX Master
The Logitech Options software is used for this mouse customization. You can customize or reset each and every button placed in the mouse. This software is easy to use and there are amazing features of customization like a scroll wheel, cursor speed, etc,. There are also applications settings, you can use this mouse with popular applications like Adobe, Photoshop. The flow feature also works from this software.
Logitech MX Master 2S
With the Logitech Options app, you can really customize the buttons and the way you use them. You can also customize the scroll button into what the action of the button is. If you’re doing a continuous scroll on a web browser, you can simply flick the scroll button and it will continue to scroll to the end of the webpage. If you want to stop the button from scrolling, you can simply tap the button and it will switch to a clicky scroll which makes it extremely satisfying for your own usage but really troublesome for other people.
WHICH TO BUY?
In my opinion, the MX Master 2S will definitely be a better option in between these two mice. Even though the Master 2S is $20 more than the Master original mouse, the improvements and changes worth the difference. The improved battery life and also all the features worth the price if you want a productivity mouse.
