Detail Review

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech MX Ergo

In the late 90s, these bizarre pointing devices were almost as popular as a standard ball mouse. The kind that had its balls on the top or down below, but then fell into obscurity as optical and laser mice gained dominance. Logitech is giving it a shot another time. The Logitech MX Ergo, their first trackball in nearly a decade.

Logitech MX Master 2S

This MX Master 2S mouse has some same features as MX Master had but this is released with some improvements. This may also consider as the best productive mouse in the market and popular in the market nowadays.

DESIGN & COMFORT:

Logitech MX Ergo

At 260 grams, the Ergo is twice as heavy as your typical mouse. Like other trackballs, it is not used by sliding it around the desktop. Instead, you actually move the pointer by spinning this optically-tracked ball with your right thumb. The Ergo is beautifully designed; the soft-touch rubber finish that covers the entire top of the mouse gives it a premium look.

As for the feel, it can leave your hand a little hotter than you might be used to, but we’re inclined to overlook this, because, with the base set to its upright position, reducing pronation or scissoring of the arm bones, it positions the user’s hand similarly to a vertical mouse. It is extremely comfortable. With that, what’s good for the wrist isn’t always good for the thumb. Moving the cursor, especially a long-distance downward, feels kinda like doing thumb crunches unless you reposition your hand.

Logitech MX Master 2S

It’s no surprise that Logitech has a solid contender on hands but one of the things I like about this thing is how like I put my hand on it. It fits so perfectly in hand. This is so perfect to fit in your hand.

The mouse is designed in that way which will be more comfortable to use. It also has a pad-like structure where the thumb rests. The grip of this mouse is great and it will be comfortable for most of the people. The design also looks impressive and attractive.

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Logitech MX Ergo

The left and right clicks are rated for 10 million and are otherwise pretty standard. These back and forward buttons are both easily accessible with your index finger, as long as you don’t have child-sized hands, and the scroll wheel is rubberized, moves smoothly, and it comfortably tilts to either side. Now, we’ve got a couple of more interesting buttons. The one-button near the trackball toggles precision mode, which is like a sniper button on a mouse, shifts the sensitivity for precision pointing, and the button under the scroll wheel is a Logitech easy switch so that you can switch easily between devices, with one of them using the included 2.4 GHz dongle, and another one connected via Bluetooth.

Trackballs are great for travel because they require very little area to use. Air-go and airplane tray table or armrest will actually work nicely for much more comfortable mousing compared to trying to use a touchpad.

If you’ve never used a trackball before, you might actually be surprised at how easy it is to convert. Some actions, like middle-click scrolling, are actually even easier with a trackball. It’s not like there wasn’t a slight learning curve, and it has some clear disadvantages. If you use a multi-display setup or an ultra-wide monitor, for example, you might find yourself having to crank the sensitivity just to cover all of that desktop real estate. On the trackball, in particular, this really made accurate pointing on fine things a feat of concentration, since it does tend to jump a bit when being turned very small amounts. The solution, as it turns out though, is to turn on mouse acceleration, it turns out that setting does have an actual use.

You can use a trackball for gaming. By comparing it to the M570, this one has a precision button, easy switch, and smoother ball action. Also, MX Ergo has the 20° tilt which really is a lot more comfortable and surely, there is no solution that exists to prop up the M570.

Logitech MX Master 2S

There are buttons everywhere even underneath the thumb pad. You can customize it to do anything but it brings up this really cool screen. There’s also a scroll-like roller, rate up top above the thumb, and then your left, your back, and forward buttons directly to the right of those. You have your left and right-click, your scrolling, and the button above the scroll wheel allows it to go through either smooth mode or the kind of click mode. I like the back and forth buttons but they’re so small that I feel like I’m never quite clicking the right one. Another feature of this one is this mouse has 4000 DPI.

It has a thing called ‘flow control’ where you can like to copy one thing from one computer, scroll your mouse over to another computer, and then paste it on that computer that’s super cool. If you have two computers side by side where you need to have two computers right in the same area, this feature will help.

The real cool thing is the program this comes with which Logitech Options software. You can customize all the buttons, you can literally take any button and pretty much make it anything you want in any program you have installed on your computer. So, you basically have one button do one thing and say Chrome and do a completely different thing in the program, for example, final cut pro and that is awesome. That’s why you’re paying so much money for this thing. The ease of use when you’re in a program may be like Adobe or something like that where you need to go between different screens and shortcuts to have it on the mouse may make it worthwhile.

BATTERY:

Logitech MX Ergo

Thanks to the Ergo’s four-month battery, you won’t even need a charging cable with you. If it does die, it boasts a full workday’s worth of battery after just one minute of charging.

Logitech MX Master 2S

This mouse can give you about 70-day battery life that’s awesome. The cool thing is it’s rechargeable, you don’t have to keep getting the AA batteries out. They claim if you plug this in for three minutes, it will get you through the entire day. So, if you forgot to charge this thing and you got three minutes, you’re gonna get through the day and that’s actually a great thing.

WHICH TO BUY?

Both the MX Ergo and MX Master 2S mouse are very different but has some same features and work well. If you want a best and normal productive mouse then Logitech MX Master 2S will be great to buy. If you want a more comfortable mouse or ergonomic mouse with some same features as Master 2S had, then MX Ergo will be better to buy as these both costs some way around the same.

If you’re a trackball loving person, it’s easy to recommend. As for if you’re not; it is the kind of thing you do have to experience on your own, but Logitech has a 30-day return policy, so if you’re a little trackball-curious, then there’s nothing to lose from giving it a spin.
