INTRODUCTION:

Razer DeathAdder V2

The Razer DeathAdder V2 is a wired mouse and the newer version of the DeathAdder Elite. There are some changes from the older version and also I think the changes with the current price of Razer DeathAdder V2.

Razer Viper Ultimate

This is a wireless mouse with amazing features. The technologies used for the mouse is just made the mouse a very popular and best-selling mouse. Also, for these all features and functions the price is also that much high.

DESIGN & COMFORT:

Razer DeathAdder V2

As far as the dimensions and everything, we all know the DeathAdder is a larger mouse, definitely a palm grip but you can bring it to that claw but it definitely fills out the hand. If you love palm grip, this is a mouse for you which is very nice and cozy in the hand.

Now, this is the first thing where they start to differ and that is gonna be the weight. With the old DeathAdder on my scale coming in at 98 grams and the new one coming in at 82, not a very big difference but you do feel it. The V2 feels a lot better in the hands but that’s not saying the old ones bad by any means, it’s a minor difference but you can tell.

Razer Viper Ultimate

It is a wireless 74-gram Viper ultimate. You get it out of the box right next to the included charging dock. Visually it looks identical to the wired one as you’d expect, it’s that same ambidextrous symmetrical design with two side buttons on each side and they’ve uh some big improvements to the mouse which include new mouse feet underneath and a brand new sensor. For those who love the original design, you still have it here.

Now, for a wireless mouse, 74 grams here is impressive. You can compare that to the 80 grams of the top-selling popular Logitech G Pro Wireless. So, you’re saving six grams in the end. For size its 127 millimeters long, 66 millimeters at its wide, and sixty grams at the middle grip width and stands thirty-eight millimeters at its highest point. So, a medium-sized mouse that to me just feels great.

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Razer DeathAdder V2

Now, as far as our switches, mouse 1 & 2 using the Razer optical switches just like what we’ve seen in the viper mouse. They are precise and spot-on, they feel fantastic, nice, and clicky. I love the buttons on the viper, some people stated they were mushy, I think they’re very clicky.

In-game, I really couldn’t tell the difference at all compared to again the old switches or any other mouse, that even goes for the Viper. I really don’t notice this being quicker than say the old one or again any other switch. Where the new V2 differs from the old DeathAdder. I don’t think, it’s the switch really I think it’s more or less the build. The buttons are really nice and precise on a new one. The other quick difference that is a button right in the middle, it’s out of the box that set as your DPI increase or decrease but I really like about the new one is how it recessed in there. On the old one, I always thought my finger kind of touching right there, I’d never activate them or anything like that.

I don’t like that glossy line, I kind of wish it was matte, I mean the rest of the mouse is matte. Coming over to the side buttons, they still have those very nice, big, precise mouse buttons, very clicky. The Death Adder probably has some of the best side buttons, your thumbs right down there you can just roll it and you’ll really decipher each of them because it has that curvature that fits right into the curvature of your thumb. It’s right in the middle, so you’ll roll up on whichever button you need.

When you get into the new V2, the entire side has that rubber coating, you actually put your nail into a little bit. Now, they’re not as thick as on the old ones but again it fills out the whole side. I’ve heard other people say that they start peeling off on the old ones, I also used the old one it never peeled off but it seems like now they address that and again the whole side has a very nice very grippy rubber textured coating. It probably feels just like the coating on the Viper, just a little bit thinner now.

If you look at the mouse straight on, you notice we still have those very nice pronounced finger grooves on mouse one and two, they feel fantastic and just lock your fingers in there. The scroll wheel still nice and recessed in there, they actually reduce the grooves on it a little bit, so you just have those little bumps and studies big old steps on there. This one’s very nice and you catch your steps right there.

One bad thing about this mouse, the normal right and left buttons are wobbly. They almost pop outside of the frame right there, now it’s not noticeable whenever I’m in-game or anything. What they should have done is just remove the two top buttons in my opinion put the DPI switch around on the bottom right there kind of like how we did with the Viper, and just remove them altogether and kind of brought that together right there. I think that would have been a lot better, probably maybe even look better and bend even stronger than the old one, just in my personal opinion.

The sensor old DeathAdder Elite was the 5g sensor, over here under V2, you have the focus plus sensor. Honestly, you can’t tell a difference from either them, they’re both fantastic and spot-on. One of the bigger differences is the profile button and you can cycle through your profiles that you have set on a synapse. The stinker about the profiles as we’ve seen with other Razer mice, that’s only gonna adjust the DPI that you have set on there and all your other specs like that but it’s not gonna save your RGB which is an absolute stinker.

Also, underneath the V2, we have a 100% PTFE feet right here, very nice and chunky. They stick out a bit you can see the quality and it does glide quite a bit better than the old one. I feel the weight on the old one but it does glide much better on the V2. Now, you do have the Razer speed flex cable and it’s very nice & lightweight cable shoots up a little bit out of the mouse, so you don’t get that initial drag. Compared to the old one, it’s much looser but the oval is a lot thinner. When I do the little cable test, they’re almost both the same but when you’re playing and using it, the V2 does feel much better on your desk.

Razer Viper Ultimate

They have that included charging dock which is definitely a fancier way of charging this up but it’s just having it plugged into your PC with a cable. It magnetically connects to your Viper Ultimate via the two pogo pins plugs into your PC and also has chroma lighting around the bottom of it as well to add some sort of visual indicator of the battery status as well as just some extra flair on your desktop. So, the light range can be changed to be a color or at a certain effect but when it’s docked up, it’ll breathe from red to orange and green and stuff, again just to give you a visual of the battery life remaining until it’s charged up. So, pulsing green means the battery is almost full, breathing red or orange stands for critical or low battery, you get the idea.

Another cool little feature with the charging dock is the fact that it has a built-in USB slot, so you can just plug in the wireless receiver if you don’t want that to be plugged into your PC, you can just have it into here to not only save a slot on your PC but to have it closer to the mouse for better range. Also, the backside of this, once you peel off the tape is like a sticky kind of residue, so you can have it somewhere on your desktop and it won’t budge or fall off.

The Razer logo is fully illuminated RGB. Both sides of the mouse are a textured rubberized grip which is nice and since it’s ambidextrous, we do have those two side buttons on each side that can be programmed to be whatever you want.

Flipping it over the DPI button remains underneath with five DPI stages. The power button isn’t underneath that but then there’s one massive welcome change, the mouse feet. This is the highest blend of PTFE feet available and it is miles better than the regular feet we saw on the wired Viper and honestly that was like my main complaint with the original. These glides very smoothly, they’re similar to aftermarket skates like hyper glides. You can see in the top and bottom the feet are different sizes that are gonna compensate for the charging dock but they still just feel way better. I found on a cloth mousepad, it still feels really nice with zero scratchiness.

There are probably the three most important things about this mouse, the sensor, optical switches, and battery life. First, the new Razer focus plus optical sensor inside goes up to 20,000 DPI but it’s more than just that with the sensor. The focus plus does some pretty cool things to ensure you’re getting the best possible experience when gaming. First is their hyper-speed technology which makes this 25 percent faster than any other wireless mouse out there.

The sensor here is just more reliable. So, for example in the G Pro wireless, you can set it to the 1000 Hertz polling rate but in reality, you’re only hitting around 994 but with the hyper speed in the Viper Ultimate, you’re hitting 998-999, you’re getting a faster and more reliable connection with less interference. The sensor is constantly just scanning for the fastest frequency Channel every single millisecond and on paper, this can be compared to what Corsair is doing with slipstream but they do not have a mouse anything like this. It’s the fastest most reliable wireless gaming mouse on the market.

These are the same optimal mechanical switches in their wired Viper and it’s the same technology they use in their optimal mechanical keyboards. The second you press down left to right mouse clicks, you’re immediately having that signal sent to your PC with just 0.2 milliseconds of response time which is three times faster than something like a traditional mechanical Omron switch. There is no physical contact being used to transfer the signal, here you press down triggering the infrared light beam that immediately sends a signal. They’re also rated up to 70 million pretty great clicks.

The third big thing that touches on here is battery life. This is rated for 70 hours which is pretty crazy that’s also without RGB but that’s ten hours a day for an entire week. You can do things like have the RGB color set to a static color at like 20 percent brightness and it’s still gonna save you some battery in the end but still, 70 hours is crazy for a wireless mouse like this at this size and at this weight.

SOFTWARE:

Razer DeathAdder V2

You should use the Synapse software to bring all the customization for buttons and everything. You can also change different profiles as per your wish. There is also a much RGB light setting in the software, you can select the options as per your likes. I think the Synapse 3 software will give the DeathAdder V2 live. This software will give you more options as we can call the software as the backbone of the mouse. 

Razer Viper Ultimate

There’s still something to touch on inside the software and that’s going to our Synapse. Under the customize tab, you can reconfigure any of the 9 mouse buttons excluding the left mouse click. This gives you the option as well to double your macros or functions when you enable hyper shift and then the left and right-hand usage indicator on the bottom. Performance tab lets you change up your DPI and pick your number of stages as well and picking your polling rates.

Lighting tab is pretty simple, you can change up the brightness and the effects. Remember the brighter the fancier or the effect, the quicker your batteries gonna drain but then is the calibration tab and this lets the focus plus sensor automatically scan, which detects your mouse pad surface and liftoff distance for you. So, you can either choose to manually calibrate your mouse pad but these smart tracking that’s gonna be really cool if you are switching mousepads, where you potentially had the slightest bit of wear and tear on your mousepad or grooves in your mousepad that may cause some tracking issues. Smart tracking is gonna pick up on that and be the better option. 

There is also the power tab for things like setting the mouse to sleep if you touch it for five minutes as well as enabling the low powered mode, once your mouse gets below a certain battery life percentage. The good to note is inside the software, your battery life and the percentage left can constantly be seen in the top right corner which you believe it or not, most companies like tend to overlook or they just hide the battery life percentage somewhere. So, it’s good to see that you can just have that wherever in the software. Then also, under the accessory tab up top is for the charging dongle itself. This is where you can just adjust the lighting effects to this, or the brightness to the dock, sync the effects to your mouse, and so on. As you can see that graph that does show you the visual battery life indicator.

WHICH TO BUY?

Both the mouse works very well as per their price. In my opinion, if you have a tight budget, you can go for Razer DeathAdder V2 but it’s a wired mouse. If you have more budget then Razer Viper Ultimate is just amazing and works very well for gaming.

It’s definitely a worthwhile upgrade if you’re an existing DeathAdder fan, and the huge drop in weight and new features should make you quite happy. But if you’ve yet to figure out the kind of mice that suits you best or your grip style, I’d still recommend going for something with a “safer”, ambidextrous shape to start out.
