Sennheiser has made some phenomenal headphones over the last decade and this new pair of Momentum True Wireless 2 is no different. It has all the good things like active noise cancellation, a seven-millimeter dynamic driver, a built-in equalizer that can be customized through an app and so much more but all that goodness comes at a premium price point of $299.

Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless is a pair of truly wireless earbuds which is known for best sounding. They are retailing for around $177.

DESIGN:

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 is really an exceptional piece of earphone, it is a masterpiece from Sennheiser. But if it was IPX5 or above then it would be more perfect. Other than that it’s a solid earphone. Everything is so thoughtfully made like the fabric feel of the case not only that, it looks good. It is also very functional because it gives you a very good grip. Then the earphones are held into the case with strong magnets so that it won’t fall off accidentally. It’s the small details like the above that make a good pair of earphones into a great pair of earphones.

Out of the box other than the Sennheiser earbuds, you get a lot of documents out of which you will only need the welcome card to start off with the app. You also get the USB type-c which is excellent inside the box. You also get a regular USB-A to USB-C cable, this cable is a little short so that means that your phones must be always near to a power source while recharging like a computer or a power bank. Then you also get three pairs of extra ear tips of extra small, small, and large sizes and the medium-sized ear tips are already attached on the earbuds by default.

It comes with a really nice case. The case has a fabric material. The one thing I do want to point out about this fabric material is its kind of like the one that Google makes for the pixels and these things pick up any little thing that’s on your fingers. So, you have to be aware of that, especially considering this is gonna be in and out of your pocket if you have anything in your pocket or anything on your hands, it’s going to get on this and it is really hard to get out.

On the back of the case, there is USB-C which is great because most things are going towards USB-C. Next to that, it has a little button that will have an indicator light that shows you green if your battery is good, or red if your battery’s about to die. When you open the case you can see where both earbuds go and then you can see the little pin connectors that are supposed to line up with the earbuds to be able to charge them. You also get the USB-C cable for charging they have no complaints here other than the fact that the cord should be a little bit longer. 

The earbuds too were looking nice. It’s a very clean design, you have Sennheiser’s logo on the outside, that’s where your touch controls are located where you’re able to program everything. On the ear tips, you can see where your left and right or mark and then there the little pinholes are located to match up with the case to be able to charge these. On the outside part, they both have microphones, it has stereo mics to be able to pick up both.

COMFORT:

It really looked good on my ear, it was super comfortable as well with the medium-sized ear tips. Getting the correct fit on these earbuds is also very useful if you want to wear them securely because then the earbuds will not just fall off from your ears. If you say for example take this out on a run or to the gym it fits in the ear comfortably without falling out, it also helps to block off the external noise and also reduces sound reading. So, make sure that you pick the right sized earbuds for yourself if you want the momentum too sound good.

You have the extra ear tips. I found the ones that were on them already were fine, but there’s also a small, medium, and large because with all earbuds having the right fit impacts how these things sound. These earbuds are pretty big, so when they’re in your ear they do stick out quite a bit. It’s not anything extremely massive but it is something some people are kind of self-conscious about. As far as comfort you are getting a great fit. They don’t fall out from your ears.

This also has support for Apple’s AAC codec and Qualcomm aptX codec which means from supported devices you will get close to zero lag or latency from these earphones. The Momentum True Wireless 2 also has an active noise cancellation feature which is working in tandem with the earbuds, excellent passive noise isolation technology to give high fidelity sound even in the noisiest environment.

I can tell you this much that if you have a good fit on the ears and the noise cancellation is on, then what you will hear is just amazing. I used them and I am seriously blown away by the quality. You can keep on or off between the active noise cancellation if you think the noise cancellation is too much and the transparent hearing can be also turn on using the app or the earbuds. But one thing it is lacking is how one could adjust the amount of noise cancellation or transparency like the way it was possible with the Sony WF-1000 XM3 for example.

The right and the left earbuds can both be used in tandem for a variety of functions. They are super intuitive like receive a call with the left or reject a call with the right, skip a track forward or skip a track backward, increase volume with the right or decrease volume with the left, and to top it all off all of these functions can be customized the way you feel comfortable via the app. Calling the phone’s voice assistant is just two taps away. There is also a smart pause function, this will automatically pause the movie you are watching or the songs you are listening to, as soon as the earbuds are removed from the ears and then it resumes automatically when you put it back on again, which is very helpful. Another option available is the ability to auto receive an incoming call as soon as the right earbud is taken out of the charging case when a call comes in.

You can use the sensors on the earbuds to use your assistants like Siri or your Google assistant, you can also skip tracks by double tapping to go forward and three times to go backward, you also can press and hold them on the right ear for your volume to go up and then press and hold them on the left ear for your volume to go down.

It has Bluetooth 5.0, these uses Qualcomm zap Tex, so you’re not gonna have latency as far as watching videos like YouTube, Netflix which I have found in other models. Especially most truly wireless earbuds do have lags so that is a nice touch.

You need to download the Sennheiser’s app because it kind of affects the sound a lot. You can get it on the app store or you can get on the Google Play Store but it’s very important to download this because it will show you your battery life for both earbuds. You can also turn on transparent mode if you want the mics on the earbuds to pick up the sound going on around you and mixing it in with your music. That way you can be aware of everything going on around you.

You also get an EQ built-in which really does affect the sound but it is one of the worst EQ I’ve ever seen because Just the way that they function it by sliding it. If you’re gonna want more treble your bass drops, if you want more bass in the treble than your mids just drop. There’s no way to just single control each band and I hate the way that they design this.

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

The earbuds can hold power up to 7 hours which is totally dependent on how to use it. You can use that case to power it three more times, so theoretically you should get 28 hours of battery in total. That means if you’re only using them for your work commute and gym, then they should last you over a week in a single charge. The super cool app lets you know exactly how much charge you have left so that you can recharge when you need to. The charging case also has a button on the back, pressing which will light up the LED on the side and you can tell from the color of the LED light the status of the battery as well.

The earbuds themselves are getting four hours, the case will give you an additional eight which basically means once your earbuds are dead, you can put them in the case two times before you have to charge the case again. As far as battery goes I’d say that is okay but again as a $177 price point and considering the size of these, I would have liked to have seen them cram just a little more battery life into it.

SOUND:

I found the base to be deep, immersive, it is so good. I felt like it was almost as good as having an over-ear headphone, also with the 7.2-millimeter custom-made driver to get clear treble and very natural mids. So, whichever genre of music you listen to I’m sure that the experience will be amazing. If that’s not enough there is a built-in equalizer that you can modify to your liking through the Sennheiser smart control app. You can save them as presets and then use those different presets for different things like music, movies, or games. Controlling the equalizer is very intuitive, there is a ball that can be tracked around the screen that makes changes to the wave. By doing this you can control the amount of bass, treble, and meats which is just a super cool way of controlling the equalizer.

The noise cancellation technology also helps in terms of call quality in a noisy environment. So, if you are always busy on the phone and on the move, then these Momentum True Wireless tools will be just perfect. There is also an option called cycle which gives you audible feedback of your own voice during a phone call. This can be very useful if you want to make sure what is being heard on the other side.

The microphones on here are not anything special. So, I definitely would not go out getting these mainly for phone calls because for $300, these are not giving the great sound.

The sound we gonna get from this one is amazing. In my opinion, it is the best sounding truly wireless earbud I’ve heard out of all the ones that I’ve tried. This is the best of the best. As far as clarity goes everything sounds amazing, it’s really crystal clear, but still has plenty of low-end. What they were able to do with the mids to have vocals sound, the way they do and this is across the board with all genres of music. Anything that’s supposed to have impactful bass, you’re definitely gonna get.

It never gets muddy, the bass doesn’t affect the rest of the sound. When you have mid-range and vocals, the way these coming through, the way these do it’s truly impressive out of something so small. They can make it sound like it’s completely open. The soundstage that’s in these is what makes these special. It gives a slight little bit of air into the sound so it doesn’t feel like it’s all trapped there.

You have a pretty good awareness of were sounds coming from. So sound separation was great. If something’s coming from a side it feels like it’s coming from that side. Things feel like they’re more distant away from you as far as volume goes because these can get plenty loud. The Sennheiser somehow found a way to kind of push the sound away from you and give you that awareness and it’s just incredible coming out of an earbud.

WHICH ONE HAS BETTER FEATURES? 

In my opinion, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 has better features than the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 1 because the updated version has better battery life than the original one and the updated version has the ANC feature also which we don’t get in the originals.
