Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Tribit StormBox Micro

The Tribit StormBox Micro is one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers in the market at a budget-friendly price range. This speaker is retailing for around fifty dollars currently and at this price range, this speaker is offering some really great features and also, great sound quality like high-budgeted speakers in the market.

JBL Go 3

The JBL Go 3 is another new addition to the JBL Bluetooth speaker lineup. The JBL Go 3 is a much more casual smaller Bluetooth speaker compared to the Xtreme 3 and this is the updated version speaker of the Go line-up speakers from JBL. This speaker is retailing for around forty dollars currently on Amazon which is quite similar to its previous version.

DESIGN:

Tribit StormBox Micro

As far as the build quality and design of this speaker, this is where I was pleasantly surprised right out of the box because this feels very good quality. It almost feels premium, starting with the really grippy mat rubber finish at the bottom which helps the speaker stay stationary, and on top, you have fabric that also feels very high-quality. On the front of the speaker, it’s got a Tribit logo at the center, and below that there will be your multifunctional button and the volume up and down buttons. On one of its sides, you have the power button, LED indicators to show you the battery status, and the Bluetooth pairing button. On the other side is where you have got the USB Type-C port to charge your speaker.

JBL Go 3

If we take a closer look at the speaker, it’s got a nice easy to handle square shape. You got your JBL branding right in the middle, and the overall materials of the speaker feel nice and durable. So, if you’re throwing this in and out of a gym bag or a backpack, it’s going to stand up to a lot of wear and tear with no problems. On the left side of the speaker is where you have a loop which is just going to make it easier to carry around.

On the bottom of the speaker, you’ve got some rubber feet to help keep the speaker nice and stable whenever you set it down. Then over on the right side is where you have got your button controls such as your power button as well as your Bluetooth pairing button, and then you can also see you’ve got some Go 3 branding there as well. The charging port is over on the left side right next to the carrying loop.

FEATURES:

Tribit StormBox Micro

The Tribit StormBox Micro is a pretty sweet little mini speaker. It is indeed mini, it is 3.8 inches by 3.8 inches by 4.1 inches and it’s nine ounces. One of the cool things about it is that if you have two of them you can actually put it into either party mode or stereo mode and with a single music source they’ll both play and then you can put them out. Like for example, opposite sides of the pool or on opposite ends of the picnic table or something like that.

Tribit takes a cool concept from Bose and it actually makes it better for me, it’s got Bluetooth 5.0, it’s got a great range to it which the Bose speakers what I understand can only get about 20 feet away from their source, so this thing can get a hundred feet away from its music source. It’s very tough, I can drop it in the water but remember it doesn’t float, and once paired they give you really dynamic sound, and the speakers can be spread out so that you can get some great sound delivered to your party. It’s got the party mode, and it’s got a full stereo, so you can have different sound coming out of both speakers. So, this speaker really has it all it’s functional, sounds great, it can be paired, waterproof, and it’s tough.

JBL Go 3

You’re getting a pretty straightforward unboxing experience. In addition to the speaker itself, you’re also getting a USB Type-C charging cable as well as your usual paperwork and instructions. With a Bluetooth speaker this size, the intended use is going to be a lot more casual, so if it’s just you and maybe a handful of friends enjoying a day at the park, at the pool, at the lake, this is going to be perfect. For those types of settings, the speaker is more than capable of giving you what you need in terms of sound.

This speaker is running Bluetooth 5.1, which is giving you a nice stable connection. I’ve tested the speaker all throughout my house and so far, I haven’t had any issues with dropouts or lost connections. As far as the battery life on this particular speaker, you’re going to get roughly 5 hours on a single charge, which will vary somewhat depending on how loud you listen to the speaker. To charge the speaker completely, you’re looking at about two and a half hours of charge time. You’re also getting IP67 dust and water-resistant rating, which is going to give you some solid protection from the elements. So, you don’t have to worry if you’re using the speaker outdoors and it happens to rain or if you drop it in a pool of water, the speaker is going to hold up just fine.

SOUND QUALITY:

Tribit StormBox Micro

The highs are not overwhelming but they’re perfect, they don’t distort at max volume, at lower volumes they are still audible, there is no crackling whatsoever, and they’re at that sweet spot where they don’t sound very harsh, and they’re at that sweet spot where they sound natural, yet very audible. As far as the mids, this was a tricky area because I found that it depends from track to track. So, if the recording, if your source material is really high quality, and the highs, the mids, and the lows are very well balanced in the track that you’re listening to, this produces those three at a max volume just fine.

I keep mentioning max volume because if you’re listening at a max volume that is where more speakers will start to distort because they can’t handle those frequencies. But most tracks at max volume, the StormBox Micro worked fine. The mids where the vocals are sounded pretty good, natural, and maintain that natural warmth of the voice. At times though, I would find that the mids, the vocals could be a bit cleaner. They sounded just a tad bit muffled, and in certain tracks, very few had a bit of distortion at a max volume only but I felt like it could have been cleaner. The low end of the bass is very surprising because this is an ultra-portable speaker, it fits right in your hand, it’s super light so you don’t expect this to punch out a lot of basses. But surprisingly, for its size, it does punch out quite a bit of bass, and that too without any sort of distortion.

JBL Go 3

As far as the sound quality of this speaker, for the size, it’s pretty impressive how loud the speaker gets. Honestly, if you were having people over for a small get together or some sort of event at your house, you could easily use the speaker for background music. If you’re having a full-on party, you’ll obviously want to go with something a little bit larger. But overall, the sound comes in nice and clean, and there’s no distortion even at max volume. You’re not going to get a lot of hard-hitting deep bass but at the same time, the speaker still gives you a very full sound so that it doesn’t just sound like straight mids and highs.

WHICH ONE IS FOR YOU?

In my opinion, the Tribit StormBox Micro is the one for you if you want USB Type-C for charging if you want more than 5 hours of battery life, and also great sound quality. If your budget is 40 dollars and you are okay with 5 hours of battery life and the sound quality gets diminished compared to the Tribit StormBox Micro then the JBL Go 3 is the one for you. You have to decide which feature you prefer the most.
