Detail Review

INTRODUCTION:

Tribit StormBox

The Tribit StormBox is a portable and waterproof Bluetooth speaker. It has Bluetooth version 4.2 and it has SVC coated.  As it is IPX7, which means it’s waterproof and can be submerged to 1-meter depth for 30 minutes. The overall size is like a half a litre bottle so you can carry this thing in the bottle holder pocket of your backpack. However, this thing is quite hefty at 775 grams. One more advantage that this speaker has, that you can actually make this speaker stand vertically, so it takes much less space on your desk. This speaker comes with a 2600  mah battery and claims to give a battery life of 20 hours and it does take 4 hours to get charge.

JBL Flip 3

The JBL Flip 3 is a splash-proof portable Bluetooth speaker. It comes in eight different colours you got black, blue, orange, pink, red, yellow, grey, and, teal. So, you’ve got many options you can buy whichever you like. You can drop this speaker in your bag as it’s small, nice, and, compact. The JBL Flip 3 is built like a mini version of the JBL charge or somewhat resembling the huge JBL extreme 2. It is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand or your bag yet still built very rugged. The Battery life it claims is up to 10hours. The exterior is splash-proof like most of the other JBL speakers but you can’t submerge this in water like some of the UE products currently available.

JBL Flip 3

DESIGN:

Tribit StormBox

The build quality of this speaker is excellent and it feels solid. The device the whole device is wrapped around with a fabric mesh with an accent of rubber strip going around it. So, in the front you get the volume up and down button along with play pause and the buttons are highlighted in big signs. On the back of the speaker, you get a power button along with the battery indicator and there is a button to pair Bluetooth devices and also there is the exclusive X-bass button. Right below that you got a rubber flap under which there are an Aux port and the micro USB port for charging.

The overall design is quite sleek and stealthy, if not for the front buttons which scream at your face it would have been minimalistic too. The good thing about the build quality is, it is built quite solid and robust, it almost built like a tank. Also, the accent of the rubber strip does not let the speaker skid on the desk. The buttons on the front are quite tactile and large, so even if you are busy with something else you don’t have to fiddle around with them. But cannot say the same thing about the buttons which are on the back, those are really hard to press and also not tactile.

JBL Flip 3

The speaker is nice and it is lightweight. You do get a nice strap built-in, you can take the strap off if you want to add something different. The little string right on the speaker is definitely very useful, you can carry it easily anywhere you want and connect clips or anything you want. The nylon braided grill is very tough with the ends offering rubber grips to help this stand upright and also protect the passive radiators on the sides.  On the speaker, there is a little JBL Brandon on the front. There are your bass radiators on both sides.

On the backside you have Bluetooth pairing, the button you got the volume up and down button, and, you got your answer and end phone calls button too, which are very tactile and very clicky nonetheless. The buttons which to be honest with you I wish were raised up a little bit higher like the extreme, just so I can find the buttons a little bit easier. You also have your power button, your JBL connect button, and there you got the five LEDs lights that indicate your battery is low or high, which is very nice since other Bluetooth speakers, some at least do only show just three lights. And then you got your flap under it you got your 3.5-millimetres Auxilary in for non-Bluetooth devices and your micro USB 2.0 port charging slot too.

FEATURES:

Tribit StormBox

The Tribit StormBox Bluetooth speaker is a portable speaker that offers 360-degree sound. Inside the box with the speaker, it does come with the user manual and a thank you card and you get a micro USB cable for charging the StormBox. This speaker features 20 hours of playtime with a 2600 milliamp-hour battery. The StormBox takes 4 hours to fully charge and it uses Bluetooth 4.2. It has 2 45 millimetre drivers, 12 watts each. It has a Micro USB for charging and the good thing it’s IPX7 waterproof, which means you can keep it in water for 30 minutes up to 1 metre. You can take it to the pool, beach and even if you spill water, you don’t have to worry as it’s waterproof.

On the speaker also you’ve got your other buttons. You’ve got your X-bass button there, so you can turn that on or off. And you’ve got your Bluetooth pairing button there, so if you want to pair it with your device hold that or double click that puts it into pairing mode and then you can connect your mobile phone very easily, no issues with pairing, I paired three different devices to android and iPhones without any issues at all.

You’ve got your volume up and down, a nice big plus and minus volume button, On the other side of the speakers. Then you’ve also got another button in the middle which is for the smart assistant, so if you’ve got a smart assistant like Siri on your apple phone or google or even it works with Alexa as well, you can hold that down and talk to your Bluetooth speaker and if it’s within range of your phone, it will work with Siri, Alexa etc. So, overall this is very easy to operate there’s no guessing on what the buttons do, we’ve only really got the three buttons on the back power pairing and extra bass and then you’ve got your volume up and down and your smart assistant. So, very easy to run just fire it up, hold down the power button, it turns on it will pair automatically with your phone if it’s been connected it will get paired and then you start your music.

JBL Flip 3

Presentation-wise it has a nice looking box. On the box they have given the basic information like the battery life is up to 10 hours, so you have 10 hours of playtime. On max volume, you could probably cut that in half, so that might be about 5 or 6 hours, but that’s still good. according to my testing at 50% volume and letting the music basic continuously play the JBL died in 10 hours and 50 minutes.
It’s speakerphone and splash-proof, you can connect two together and all basic information. When you will open the box with speaker covered little foam, you get a nice tangle free micro-USB charging cable and of course the usual books and all and there is no charge and brick. It would have been nice if it could be submerged in water.

JBL connect feature which allows you to link with another connect enabled speaker like the JBL extreme, pulse 2, and, the charge 2 plus. Offering two sources of sound simultaneously for more room-filling music, I tested this with my JBL extreme and was able to get the same range as the Bluetooth range, the flip 3 had on my smartphone. The one issue that I noticed is that the flip 3 is missing a wall adapter, that’s not a big deal if you use your phone’s charger to charge the speaker but it’s always convenient to have the packaging only provides a USB cord.

This speaker is wireless Bluetooth streaming which means wirelessly it connects up to 3 smartphones or tablets to the speaker. JBL Flip 3 has a speakerphone that takes crystal-clear calls from your speaker with the touch of a button, thanks to the noise and echo-cancelling speakerphone. The speaker is splashproof, which means you don’t need to worry about rain or spills, you can even clean it with running tap water but you cannot submerge it into the water. So, this is not the official pool speaker but it can get wet. Also, you have JBL connect so you can build your own ecosystem by connecting multiple JBL connected-enabled speakers together to amplify the listening experience. You have the JBL bass radiator which means you can hear the bass, feel the bass, see the bass. Dual external passive radiators demonstrate just how powerful your speakers are.

SOUND QUALITY:

Tribit StormBox

The sound quality of this speaker is impressive. On the manual paper, it does say that it is a 24-watt speaker but in reality, it has 2 12 watt speakers and 2 45 mm radiators. The speakers are oriented in such a way that you get a 360 degree sound. Don’t confuse this 360 degrees sound with some kind of surround sound or immersive experience it is just the way the speaker projects the sound. So, even if you put the speaker on the side you will hear no difference in the sound quality. The volume of the speaker is also quite loud, now this is loud enough for a small room or hall for a small house party, even for a road trip in a large vehicle. But it is not loud enough for open area parties, so if you’re planning like that this is not the thing to get. Due to actual sound quality which is why this speaker makes the mark, this speaker has a quite clear and punchy bass. So, if you are listening to something with beats you will definitely enjoy this speaker’s sound.

This speaker doesn’t come with a thumping base or something that will vibrate your desk but the base is quite clear, so you can differentiate between different instruments. Also, the area where it shines most is the mids, the vocals are really clear. Personally, I listen to a lot of podcast and Indian music and it’s definitely more enjoyable in this speaker. The highs are also very clear it does not get suppressed by the punchy bass. The sound quality is great for watching movies or online shows but, because of its audio latency problem it kind of holds it back. Talking about the express feature, although I haven’t noticed any kind of difference in the lower volumes, yes there is some effect in the higher volumes. But I was not using that feature that much because I like the sound quality as it is.

JBL Flip 3

The Flip 3 sounds pretty good and gives nice audio. It sounds more crystal and clear. This speaker has more clarity to it. The speaker does not have a play and pause button, you need to press the volume (+) plus button to play and press the phone call button to pause the music. Even when you will pair the two speakers for example JBL Charge 3, together it sounds great as I personally tested it. JBL really has a certain sound signature that’s applied to nearly all of its recent speakers. For Flip 3, it is fitting for most chat rooms, especially today’s pop, idiom, and more for casual listeners of hip-hop. For the small speaker category, the flip 3 gets very loud for its size for sure filling up a small room and just enough for medium-sized rooms for personal enjoyment. Due to its small size, the bass isn’t heavy-hitting but compared to other speakers you’ll notice more bass.

About the mids, JBL has usually gone with brighter mid-range levels where most instrument characteristics are present and where most vocals reside. It’s not as bright as the charge 2 plus or the extreme, but vocals are still very distinct, very clear, and, slightly pushed forward for the average consumer, you guys will really enjoy this as really high notes and when you do turn this up to higher volumes some songs do have a little bit of distortion, some of the snares, hi-hats and the S sound beats they do get slightly jumbled and lose some of its clean clarity, it’s not every time and it’s rare depending on the song that you’re playing and keep in mind that’s one volume is near Max or at maximum volume.

Tribit Stormbox

WHICH TO BUY?

Performance-wise both speakers are amazing. Tribit StormBox is a really nice speaker and even it is waterproof and water-resistant. This speaker is budget-friendly and as per its price, it really gives great performance and sound. JBL is a splash-proof speaker and it has a rugged design, but it’s only waterproof and not water-resistant. JBL is small but still, it gives a loud sound. JBL offers various colour options too, while Tribit StormBox offers only 3 colours. Tribit StormBox claims 20 hours of battery life, while JBL Flip 3 claims 10 hours of battery life.

The price of Tribit StormBox is around $62, while JBL Flip 3 comes around $92. So Jbl Flip 3 is expensive than Tribit, so if your budget is low go for Tribit StormBox and if your budget is high, go for JBL Flip 3.
