Ultimate Ears Blast

Ultimate Ears is part of Logitech and they are a company that makes some of the best Bluetooth speakers money can buy. This speaker is currently retailing for around eighty-eight dollars. Price-wise they are not cheap and they will cost around the same price as the Sonos One.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

Being the updated version Bluetooth speaker from the Ultimate Ears, there are few changes made in the Boom 2 and made the Boom 3 to be one of the best Bluetooth speakers in the market. These speakers have a nice quality, a nice form factor, and also the design looks great as its predecessors. These speakers are currently retailing for around a hundred and fifty dollars.

DESIGN:

The Ultimate Blast is actually made from a very nice rubbery plastic material and it’s quite hard and feels very durable. On the top, you have an LED light in the center which is also the power button, so you just press the center light and the speaker will turn on. There is also another button over there, at the little dot on top, and if you press that for about three seconds you will go into Bluetooth pairing mode. You’ve got a nice mesh texture going all the way around and it does feel like a very durable speaker and it’s got a bit of weight to it as well.

At the bottom of the device, you got a flap if you lift it up, you’ve got your micro USB charging port and this also supports wireless charging via the dock. In order to use the dock, you need to swap out the bottom screw, so if you just unscrew this and with the dock, you get a metal version and you screw that on. The speakers basically go on top of the dock that would charge your speaker and run off the power at the same time.

You’ve got the magic button up on the top, you’ve got the power on and off button over there, and then you’ve got the Bluetooth button. The magic button is used to play and pause, if you press it once and if you double-tap it will skip to the next track. It feels really nice, it’s got like a nice fabric feel, and the rest of the plastic feels pretty nice. At the bottom of the rubber strap there, we have got our micro USB charging port. We have not got a USB-C port which is somewhat disappointing. But at least it does seem to be fairly well insulated against water.

I’m very impressed with the packaging so far, they look very presentable. If you just lift up the flap inside, you will get all your accessories. Inside the box, you have an instruction manual, a power brick, and an adapter as well. You also get a high-quality micro USB flat charging cable, so that’s your accessories. These are powerful Bluetooth speakers which include built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Amazon Alexia’s voice assistant, they are IP67 waterproof, and they provide up to 16-hour battery life. So effectively these are a more powerful and portable version of the Amazon Echo or the Sonos One.

As far as specs, the Blast has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, it’s 18 centimeters tall and weighs around 640 grams. Inside the Blast, you have two 35 millimeter active drivers and 281 millimeters passive radiators. So you have effectively four speakers inside this unit and 16-hour battery life. You have amazingly long battery life in these speakers making them great to travel with. alexia was very responsive and instructions can be heard from the other side of the room.

These are available in a few different colors. These speakers are IP67 waterproof and dustproof, so you can submerge these in up to one meter of water for around 30 minutes. For those who don’t know Alexa is a digital assistant made by Amazon and these speakers have Alexa built-in which allows you to control the speaker with your voice from anywhere. Another special thing about these speakers is the new connectivity range. You can connect via Wi-Fi up to 330 feet and Bluetooth up to 150 feet. Set up is very easy and user friendly, just install the Ultimate Ears app on your smartphone and follow the on-screen instructions and you’ll be set up and running in no time. You will then have access to a massive collection of powerful voice features, and you can ask Alexa for any information you like.

The box comes in a nice presentation, and inside the box, you get your Ultimate Ears Boom 3 speaker itself, your micro USB charging cable, and your usual books and quick start guide. The only thing you get in the box which might be useful is a flat USB cable for you to charge it with. Based on the base of this speaker though, you should be able to buy a charging dock for this that charges this speaker for you almost like a wireless charger.

What’s interesting about this particular set of Bluetooth speakers is that they’re supposed to be waterproof, they’re supposed to float when a swimming pool and not sink and die. Apparently, you also have 15 hours’ worth of battery life, 360 degrees spatial sound, and it’s got the magic button on top.

You need to download the Boom app to experience all of the features of your speaker. Once you open the app, you are going to get all the options there. To pair these up, hold on to the Bluetooth button for seconds it will make the speaker on pairing mode. Then go to the Bluetooth settings in your mobile and choose Boom 3 and you are done. In the app itself, you have got the power on and off button and also the volume up and down button.

This app also asks you to do the firmware update overtimes to enjoy the latest features. We’ve also got an equalizer which is great, and you can have multiple devices at the same time which is great. You also have the options like a block party, and DJ the party with a Friend. So, you can have multiple devices connected to your speaker so that multiple people can stream to it simultaneously.

SOUND QUALITY:

These speakers produce an incredibly high-quality 360 degrees sound and these speakers produce much better sound quality and a more powerful sound than any of the Amazon Echo range including the latest Sonos range. This is a very enjoyable well-made product, quick and easy to set up, outstanding sound quality from these speakers and you can feel the 360 surround sound effect.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

The bass is very responsive on this but the treble wasn’t too high. Actually, these sounds really loud enough. I tested out the sound quality on this with the maximum volume and with a bunch of music from different genres. As per my test, these sounds really good, the bass was good, the mids and the highs were good but when at the maximum volume I felt overwhelming and loses clarity a little bit. At normal volume, it really sounds good and even when two of these are paired together it sounds really good and loud which will be great for outdoor parties.

WHICH ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER?

In my opinion, the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is better than the Ultimate Ears Blast. Keeping the average consumer in mind, the price is a little on the higher side but if you’re after the best quality Bluetooth Wi-Fi speakers, and also a great sound quality then the Boom 3 are definitely one of the best options.
