Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

The Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 is the refreshed version of the Megaboom to replace the Megaboom 2 and it’s come at you at a decent price of around two hundred US dollars when it was launched. This speaker sounds really great and loud enough and also has a great design.

Ultimate Ears Megablast

The Ultimate Ears Megablast is retailing for around a hundred and eighty-seven dollars currently. These are available in four colors you got Blizzard which is a black and white combo, you got blue steel, graphite black, and merlot. The prices of these speakers on the basis of their colors, so if you want to save a couple of dollars go for the graphite black. The Ultimate Ears also sell the charging dock this is gonna run you 40 dollars.

DESIGN:

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

First of all, it does come in a number of different colors like the purple model is known as ultraviolet purple, then sunrise red, Lagoon blue, and black night and they all look very snazzy to be fair. The back one is kind of a dark grey more than a black but never mind but the Red, the blue and all this ultraviolet purple will do the job and they look great. They’ll definitely get you noticed if you’re rocking it on the bus or something, especially if you actually have a blast of music at the time. Similar sort of design as you can see to the Megaboom 2 but with a few little tweaks.

First of all the strap around the back is a lot more narrow than it used to be and I just need to get a more triangular sort of 360-degree sound it’s being blasted out from almost every area. You get a nice little bit of strap up there, so you can hook it onto something. The actual fabric itself is tougher than ever before as well. They’ve always been pretty rugged in the Ultimate Ears Megaboom but the Megaboom 3 is even tougher than before. This is the kind of people use for motorcycle jackets and things like that, it’s proper rugged stuff. So it shouldn’t be able to take up a good scratch and stuff in it.

Ultimate Ears Megablast

On the top, you have your Bluetooth pairing button, then your multifunctional button that will play-pause, and that’s how you’re gonna control your Amazon Alexa, plus and minus for volume up and down, Ultimate Ears Brandon, on the bottom there will be your carabiner hook and you’re gonna unscrew this if you want to use the charging dock. This is a nice durable speaker, really Ultimate Ears make quality speakers that are very durable.

If you are gonna use the bottom charging dock port, then you need to buy the charging cradle and this one is going to run you 40 dollars. This is going to use the provided cable that came with your speakers and another little carabiner hook. We need to screw the hook that comes with the dock into the bottom of the speaker, and then you need to place the speaker on the charging dock and you can charge it up.

FEATURES:

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

The design in the box is very colorful, and when you flip open the box from the bottom, there will be your the Megaboom 3. Other than the speaker itself, in the box, you get pretty much what you’d expect the books and quick start-up guide, power adapter, and then you get a number of different plugs based on your region, so you got a two-pin European adaptor action, we’ve got the three-pin adaptor as well that’s a lovely little pop out that sort of fold up nice and compact, and then your USB cable it’s not type-c it’s just micro USB same as all the previous models.

Megabooms have always been water-resistant as well which is lovely stuff. This is now fully IP67 rated, so it as usual can be chucked into freshwater and saltwater and it’s also dust resistant as well. It does float if you want to just leave it bobbing around in your swimming pool. To charging them up, you can charge it up via the little port there at the bottom and that’s just nicely covered by a flap and that just helps to prevent any saltwater or anything like that from getting into that port and ruining your speaker. Well, you can notice as well there is no direct support built into the bottom there for the power of the charger which Ultimate has launched earlier this year or last year.

We’ve got a power-up charger as well so assure that in action, I mean just no fiddling around with cables or anything you just sit the speaker on top of the power of dock, and the job has done. Unfortunately, you need to buy this separately from the Megaboom and then you need to just plug your charging cable in there in the dock and then set the speaker on the dock, job done. Inside the Megaboom 3, it’s mostly the same inner workings as the previous Megaboom 2, the only real update is that they’ve improved the bass output.

There’s another big change as well and that’s to the control up top. You’ve got your standard Bluetooth button there to connect your devices, and you’ve got the usual power button. We’ve also got a new middle button there which Ultimate Ears has decided to call forever reason, the magic button. You can of course as usual control the Megaboom directly using your phone, so you can get some music playing, stop playing on there, and you can of course boost up a volume directly through the speaker itself.

What Ultimate Ears is also tried to do with the Megaboom 3 is basically completely ignoring the phone and just control your music directly through the speaker itself. After it’ll connect, all you got to do is tap that magic button and it will start automatically playing your music, you can just tap it again to pause and tap it again at any point to commence playing if you give it a double push it will skip to the next track.

The even better news is if you are a user of Deezer on Android or Apple music on your iPhone, you’ll be able to access your playlists directly through the Megaboom 3 as well. So one long push basically will stop playing the very first playlist that you’ve set up, again through that Ultimate Ears app and if you long push it again it’ll skip to your next playlist just start cycling through them all those especially gonna use it. For instance, you’re in a pool, you’re in the shower, or wherever you wanna get some music you don’t be fumbling for your phone especially if it’s not a water-resistant handset.

You will get about 20 hours of use per a single charge of the Megaboom 3 and they take between two and two and a half hours for a full charge. The Bluetooth capability as well is boosters over the previous Megaboom, the Megaboom 3 has got a distance of about 45 meters, so it should be fine for a decent-sized party.

Ultimate Ears Megablast

This features Amazon Alexa so you got all your voice controls to control your Amazon music to Radio. The box claims that these are Amazon Alexa voice-enabled, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, IP67 also, 360° sound, and you get 16 hours worth of playtime. So that’s one of the differences between Blast and Megablast that is more battery life and more sound. The box has a nice presentation, and inside the box, you get your speakers themselves first. This is a lot heavier than I thought, looks very similar to the UE Megaboom but the buttons look better. Then you got the same usual books, your charging cables, and charging brick now instead of yellow they went with the white versions.

As far as the pairing process, it’s real simple hold down the pairing button, go to your Bluetooth menu, and select the Megablast. Next, you’re going to download the Ultimate Ears app and from this app, you got full control of your speaker. In the app, you can add a speaker, you got help, you could turn your Alexa mic on and off, you can check all your statuses so you got a battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and you need to be signed in. Then you got the rest of your settings, so you got the speaker name, Wi-Fi, auto sleep timer, change the language, and there are your firmware updates. You also got volume controls on the bottom.

Also, there are some things that I don’t like number one there’s no built-in speakerphone. It’s not the biggest deal in the world but nowadays most speakers have speakerphones built-in I would’ve liked to have seen that in these. There are no controls on the speaker for skip and playback so you can’t skip your tracks, you can’t reverse them, you’re gonna have to use all your controls from your phone. So, every time you want to go to the next song, and unless you lose in Amazon with the voice controls you’re gonna have to pull out your phone.

Next, the Amazon functions only work with Amazon Music or Amazon streaming services, so if you’re playing a YouTube video you need to use the phone. Next, you can’t pair two of these together, hopefully, that will come with an update and it doesn’t float. This one sounds amazing so two of these together will be great. Other than that I would say these speakers are really good for the price, and the sound quality on this one is great and loud. It doesn’t float even though it is IP67, so if you’re having that in the backyard and it starts raining don’t worry about it but if you drop this in the pool you are gonna damage it.

SOUND QUALITY:

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

The Megaboom 3 sounds really loud and these have the same sound signature as the Boom 3 but the only difference is the Megaboom 3 offers more bass. These speakers sound that much which fills medium to large-sized rooms. The Megaboom 3 sounds in 360-degrees, so you can get the same sound quality and same loudness wherever you place them and in whatever direction you place them.

Ultimate Ears Megablast

This speaker is loud, this sounds crystal clear, and the max volume is very loud. With the 360 degrees directional sound you can experience a great sound quality wherever you place this and however, you place this. This speaker sounds really loud and good for the price.

Ultimate Ears Megablast

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, you should buy the Megaboom 3 because it sounds good and loud than the Megablast, also the Megaboom 3 has more features than the Megablast like it has the equalizer settings in the app which the Megablast doesn’t have and also the Megaboom 3 has the control over skipping tracks, which the Megablast doesn’t have and you need to use your mobile unless you are connected with the Amazon Alexa which is also downside again in these because Alexa gonna work only with Amazon playlists.
