Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

The Bowers and Wilkins PX7 is active noise cancellation pair of headphones and it’s the flagship, which is very much on par with what you’ve got from Bose and Sony. So, if you’ve tried them before and you like that kind of stuff then you’re in for a treat because this headphone is actually really fantastic and it’s been my go-to pair of overhead headphones over the last few weeks. This retails for around three hundred and ninety-nine dollars currently on amazon. It’s actually reduced in price, so you can actually pick up a bargain if you were to get one of these.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

When first I came to know that Bose announced these headphones they kind of took me by surprise but the more you think about them and use them, the more it makes perfect sense. These are a prime example of competition driving things forward and making better products for us, the consumers. This headphone is retailing for around three hundred and seventy-nine dollars.

DESIGN:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

The ear cups have 43-millimeter drivers, and inside them, you have your label for left and right, so you know which side to put it on. On the left side, you got your active noise cancellation settings, you’ve got three tiers here so you can do low, you can turn it off, or you can put it really high when you got it really high you can actually really feel it. I also like the way they’ve tucked in the cables, so you can’t see anything at all. It looks very minimalist, it looks very sturdy, it feels nice in hand, it’s not too heavy as well so if you’re gonna be wearing this for a prolonged period of time, you’d be okay with that.

On the back of the ear cup, you have got the buttons and stuff, so you’ve got your Bluetooth button which is also your power button when you press it once it power on and when you press and hold it for about five seconds or so then you can start pairing it with up to two devices at the same time which is pretty cool. On the downside of the ear cup, you’ve got your volume rockers and the middle one is your function button, you can use it to change music, pause, you can use it to answer phone calls, end phone calls as well. Underneath it, you’ve got your battery indicator light, you’ve got USB-C port, 3.5 million jack, and a microphone as well. You have also got a wear sensor in this headphone, so when you take it on and off it knows and it will pause and play your music. You can also change your sensitivity in the app that comes with it.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

The 700 finally have USB Type-C where all the QuietComfort were micro-USB, these will also connect to two different Bluetooth devices at once, and can instantly swap back and forth between them. You have also a touchpad on the side of the right headphone so double-tap the touchpad to play and pause, swipe up or swipe down to change the volume up or down, and swipe forward to go forward, swipe backward to go back. It’s not cold enough for me to test if these like stop working when it’s cold or anything like that but they seem to work pretty great.

Then there are three physical buttons, so on the right side there is the power/Bluetooth button that is single tap turns it on and off, and a long press goes to pairing mode. The second button over here is your assistant button so when you tap it, it’ll pause your music and use the excellent built-in mics to let you ask Google assistant things. Then on the left side is a noise cancellation adjustment button, so you can cycle between a maximum of 10 out of 10, 5 out of 10, or 0 out of 10 noise cancellation, and those presets are customizable.

The most striking part about this microphone is the new pretty minimal design, I don’t love it I mean it’s definitely a unique look, it looks fine. I think the look they’re going for here is minimal and clean but I like that there’s still good like everything. There’s is the matte black version and also a silver version. I like that it’s pretty lightweight still and I like that there’s still over-ear but they’ve kind of seemingly gotten rid of any visible hinges or any broken lines at all, it just kind of looks like these smooth ear cups attached to one single stock.

COMFORT:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

In terms of comfort, you’ve got an adjustable headset which is very stiff enough and it’s not going to easily move up and down which is really good. You’ve got a cushioned headband as well with a fabric finish. This is made out of the composite carbon fiber material which makes it really strong and it flexes without any kind of creaks, so you don’t have to worry about snapping it. You got the cushion finishing on both ear cups and the fabric continues. The only qualms with the fabric are it gets dirty after a while. If you rub it against something that’s gonna mark, and it stays there.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

You can still rotate them around and it still gives you pretty much a hundred percent of the flexibility you had before. The top band is still soft and the clamping force is still pretty solid. You put them on and even before turning them on, they’ve created a nice seal. It’s just definitely a very unique look, I think the only thing I really don’t like even though I totally get it is the adjustability for height as this smooth slide instead of the clicks usually get from like every other pair of headphones. So, this is less satisfying but it makes sense with its really smooth minimal look.

FEATURES:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

Inside the box, you get a pair of headphones themselves, you get a carry case, you get your usual user manual which is like a card that gives quick information on how to get started, and you get your warranty card as well. Underneath there inside actually inside the case, you get your cable as well. So, if you want to connect via cable 3.5 mm you can do that as well on this which is a bonus. You’ve got your USB charging cable as well, so this supports fast charging.

In terms of noise cancellation, I tend to put mine on really high and if I need to hear what’s going around me, I just press and hold that noise-canceling button again to put it into ambient ambiance mode. That just means you’ll be able to hear with a pass for you be able to hear what’s going in a round, which is pretty good and you can adjust that as well in the app settings. In the app settings are where you can change a few things like sensitivity, you can connect other phones as well, you can see what devices are connected already, and so much more.

The PX7 also supports aptX codec, so you’ve got 24 bit higher resolution support, and you’ve also got aptX adaptive all this means for me really is the latency between this and the phone or the device it’s connected to. You get that instantaneous sound if you’re playing games for example like Call Of Duty, you’re not moving and then hearing a sound later, you hearing it instantaneously. It is really good in terms of being up there with other flagship pair of headphones out there today like your Bose or the Sony as well.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

Pretty much all the new features that they’ve added are a direct response to all the headphones that have been coming out over the past year that I’ve had all kinds of cool features that have sort of passed them up. If you look back the Bose QC series that iconic QuietComfort headphones lineup has been kind of the same almost stubbornly for the past couple of years even as we evolved just because they kind of settled in as the industry standard. People knew that if you wanted noise-canceling headphones you just got those. The new features we get in the 700 are just straight from what we just got in this new competition.

The Bose Music app is all fresh and clean, it’ll tell you exactly how much battery you have left to the minute, and it’ll let you dial in any noise cancellation level from 1 to 10 at any time which is super-specific. You can also change what assistant the assistant button triggers, so if you have a Samsung phone you can do Bixby, maybe you want Alexa, maybe you want Siri, that’s your wish. With that Bose app notably doesn’t have is any sort of EQ control, so if you’re someone who wants to have that extra bass or you want to add to messing with the way it sounds out the box, these don’t do it from the Bose app.

There are a couple of other things to consider that aren’t just upgraded features. It has USB Type-C which is great but on the other side, they have a 2.5-millimeter headphone jack instead of 3.5. So, if you run out of battery or you want to plug in wired audio for some reason you have to use I guess they’re included 2.5-millimeters to 3.5-millimeter cable instead of any old regular audio cable that you have ready to go, that’s kind of disappointing. The case also compared to the competition is decently compact but not the smallest I think the Sony’s would win again for the smallest overall travel size because they actually fold but the Bose case does have this neat magnetic flap covering the pocket to put in the cables, so that’s pretty cool but I also noticed it doesn’t come with the airline adapter anymore.

MICROPHONE:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

You can also use this microphone for answering phone calls, making phone calls. I tested out the sound quality of the microphone on this headphone it’s really good, and very clear as well. During my test, I was able to hear the person on the other side clearly and they can hear me clearly as well with no issues at all. The microphone on this does a great job of isolating the background noise going on and gives a nice output.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

I tested out the microphone quality on this headphone several times and by my test, I felt it sounds pretty good and performs its function really well. As for the phone call, it sounded pretty good for me and also for the person on the other side. The ambient mode also works really well as it lets in the background sound based on the place where you are in. The microphone on this also works for your voice assistant and it does that job too pretty well.

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

BATTERY:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

You are getting USB Type-C for charging on this, so it supports fast charging and you’ll be able to charge up quickly within 15 minutes. So, 15 minutes of the charger will give you around five hours of usage but other than that this actually will run for 30 hours as quoted by Bowers & Wilkins but what I would guide you is I’ve rarely barely charged this pair of headphones at all. I just pick it up and I’m good to go because I really need to charge it which is really good.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

As far as the battery life on this headphone, it is rated up to twenty hours of playback as the company claims. The battery life on this is not the best as compared to its competitors on the market as they are proving around thirty hours of playback. This headphone charges via USB Type-C so it does support fast charging.

SOUND:

Bowers & Wilkins PX7

If you’re familiar with the Bose 700 these tend to have a similar bass level as the PX7 but the Bowers & Wilkins hits slightly deeper and punchier. On the other end, Sony will definitely offer a bit deeper resonating bass. Keep in mind, it might be too strong with the Sony’s if you value more of a balanced bass audio signature, for just bass, in general, I believe the PX7s are good but it is subjected, actually, the PX7 is right in between the Sony and the Bose. As for the mid-range, this is where the human ear interprets the majority of instruments, vocal work, and such, and the mid-range is it’s not distorted, it’s articulate.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

As far as the sound quality on this headphone, these sound just about as high quality as any Bluetooth headphones have been. The sound signature on this, and the way this sound is unsurprisingly kind of flat like that’s just the way Bose headphones have sounded for the past couple of years with the QuietComfort. If you’re in it for that big thumping bass, you might find these a bit lackluster or disappointing but you’re rarely buying these for the big thumping bass you’re buying them for the noise cancellation.

Bose Noise Cancelling 700

WHICH ONE IS BETTER?

Overall, I feel the PX7 and Bose 700 are really high up there with the other flagship overhead noise-canceling headphones out there today which I really like. They are comfortable, they look good, and they sound amazing as well. But both of these headphones become better than the other at some points like as far as the noise cancellation the Bose 700 is better than the PX7, so if you want good noise-cancellation then you can go for the Bose 700. But if you want long battery life then the PX7 is better than the Bose 700.

Unless you’re particular about getting that slight edge in sound quality (or if you absolutely have to have the superior Bluetooth codec support that Sony and others offer), the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 is a strong recommendation from us.
