Detail Review:

Cambridge Audio Melomania

The Cambridge Audio Melomania is currently retailing for around a hundred dollars. You’re paying the money on these for absolutely fantastic call quality, fantastic sound, just not quite loud enough, comfort, and beautiful design.

Apple Airpods 2

The Apple Airpods 2 is the updated version of its older version. The main upgrades we gonna see in these are the H1 chip and the wireless charging. Other than these, everything else is minor upgrades. The Apple Airpods 2 is retailing for around two hundred dollars.

9.1 Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 3

Cambridge Audio Melomania

The case feels nicely solid and the earbuds are also nice with the little LEDs on it. Design-wise these are really good. The case has a nice little magnetic feel to them so that the earbuds can be placed in their place properly. These earbuds come in two different colors, black and half white type color.

The feel of the case is nice, it’s light but it feels very well made, very similar to the size of Airpods. The hinge feels good well-engineered and doesn’t feel cheap. On the back, you get the branding Cambridge Audio and you get your standard USB port. This is not USB-C and on the front, you’ve got your LEDs.

Apple Airpods 2

Design-wise the Airpods 2 are the same with the first edition Airpods except for the placement of the LED, the reset button, and the price which is still not that bad compared to other wireless headphones on the market. The Airpods 1 and 2 are not identical at all. No one will be able to tell the difference.

The Airpods 2 has the same design as the Airpods 1. These have a stylish look with a long stem. These have touch controls for inline controls and there is also a sensor to detect when you wear these on and off so that it could pause the music.

Something to bear in mind they do not come with the standard size because the drivers are so big. But you can adjust the fit by using the additional ear tips coming along with the box as per the size of your ears. It’s passive noise cancellation, it’s not active noise cancellation. My surrounding noise was blocked out because I’ve got these wedged into my ears. They feel pretty solid, they do not feel like they’re gonna fall out of my ears at all. I can still feel like I can hear outside noise but there’s a real good seal. It all depends on your ears and how they fit. Right out of the box, these fit well.

Apple Airpods 2

The Airpods may look more stylish than all other earbuds in the market but as far as comfort goes, these lack comfort level. Because of the long stem sticking out of the ears, I feel somewhat uncomfortable. If we go for short listening secession, we may not feel any lack of comfort but during the long secessions, we may feel some type of ear fatigue in the outer part of the ear.

The box claims that you get premium graphene-enhanced drivers, they use graphene because it is a stronger, more robust a lighter material. You get clear calling with noise cancellation and you also get Bluetooth 5.0 which is the gold standard. They come with memory foam and silicon tips for optimal fit, its IPX5 sweat and water-resistant, so you’re all good in the gym and if you get caught in the rain. They also come with advanced Qualcomm technology with AptX. The playtime on these headphones is 9 hours for one charge. These are super lightweight, weighing in 4.6 grams and they work with your voice assistance like Siri and Google. Inside the box, you get your case, earbuds, usual books, charging cable, and some extra ear tips.

Pairing these up is extremely simple. The second you take them out the case, they are already in pair mode and you need to keep your device in Bluetooth pairing and the pairing is seamless. I checked out the lag latency in these, what I mean by that is, is there any delay between what I hear and what I see. The lag latency on these is pretty much zero. I checked out the call quality too. It sounds good to me and the person on the other side too said I sounded good to them. What it does is, it turns down the volume when you do take one of the earbuds out and keep the other one in the ear, it tells you the Bluetooth disconnected and then it will say Melomania connected. The voice onboard sounds nice and doesn’t sound too robotic. It’s a nice lovely British female voice.

With these, the button control is the absolutely fantastic and soft press. The way this work is absolutely brilliant and I’m very impressed. You can do the volume up, volume down, skip track, and summon your assistant. It is absolutely fantastic in knowing that, there isn’t a slave bud, so you can use either bud independently.

Apple Airpods 2

Apple says instead of W1, the new Airpods 2 have an H1 chip providing faster and more stable connection, two times faster switching between devices, 30% lower gaming latency, voice-activated Siri, and if you like wireless charging with that it costs $40 extra bringing your total to $200. As far as connection speed goes, Airpods 2 connects to the iPhone a little faster but nothing that can be noticed on daily basis. When it comes to switching between iOS devices speed test Airpods 2 gets connected faster than the Airpods 1. This can be 50 percent faster as Apple claims.

I tested out the lag latency on these by watching videos on Youtube, Netflix, etc. While using these with the Apple devices, there was no lag at all but while using these on other android devices, there is a little lag but not much to be noticed. As far as the call quality goes, I will mention these to be the best. These sounds natural as it would sound if we do talk directly using the mobile. I heard the person on the other side well and they too heard me well.

The Airpods also have the “find my buds” feature too. This feature allows you to find your earbud easily by making a loud noise and the last known location indicated on find iPhone app makes it a lot easier to find Airpods. If you lose one of your Airpods, you can go into an Apple store and you can get one Airpod. To reset your Airpods, you just hold down the button there on the case and you can reset it. With the Airpods, there’s a great feature called “hearing” by which you can live listening from the microphone of your phone through your Airpods. What that means is, you can place this phone somewhere close to the TV or whatever you want to hear, and then you can just walk away and keep on listening to it.

You get nine hours of playtime from each bud and then a further 36 hours from the case. If you want to save the battery life further, you can use either one of the buds while the other one is in the case. This way the battery life in these can be extended and they are pretty good too.

Apple Airpods 2

When it comes to battery life, at the end of one-hour second-generation Airpods had 84% battery life which is pretty good. You are getting three hours of talk time and five hours of playtime with the Airpods 2. Because of the efficiency of the H1 chip, you are getting 18 hours of talk time and 24 hours of listening time with the case as the Apple claims.

Cambridge Audio Melomania

These sound nice and clear but it’s not as loud as I’d like to listen. The bass isn’t too bad, it’s got a really good range to it. The mids, highs, and lower ends all are nice to me and sound much better than AirPods. When it comes to music, these are balanced. As these fit nicely and they feel comfortable, these produce a good range of sound quality.

Apple Airpods 2

In the loudness test, the Airpods 1 & 2 reaches around minus 3 decibels. The Airpods 2 are pretty louder too. Airpods 1 & 2 once again are almost identical and they have great power of dynamic range around 40 Hertz. Interestingly, the Airpods 1 seemed to have a little more power compared to Airpods 2. All this means, there’s almost no difference between Airpods 1 and 2 when it comes to sound quality. The sound quality on these is really impressive.

9.1 Apple Airpods 2 3

In my opinion, the Cambridge Audio Melomania is better than Apple Airpods 2. As far as the price goes, the Cambridge Audio Melomania is better in terms of sound quality, call quality, looks, comfort, and latency than the Apple Airpods 2 at its price range that is lower than the Airpods 2.

It’s rare to find such a complete pair of earphones at such a low price point, especially in the wire-free category. With Cambridge Audio’s first untethered in-ears you get superb sound, convenience, reliability, and stupid long battery life, for less than the price of any big-name rival.

While they’re not the most attractive pair of in-ears, the Melomania 1 boast better battery life than Apple’s AirPods and are far less expensive than Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless.
