INTRODUCTION:

JBL Boombox 2

The JBL Boombox 2 is the updated version speaker of the original Boombox from the JBL. This is one of the premium portable speakers available in the market and also this is one of the flagship speakers from JBL. This speaker is retailing for around five hundred dollars.

JBL PartyBox 300

The JBl PartyBox 300 is retailing for around four hundred dollars by JBL which is quite premium. There’s two-level below the PartyBox 300, which is the PartyBox 100 and 200, and the one which is higher is the PartyBox 1000.

DESIGN: 

JBL Boombox 2

The speaker itself, definitely lightweight, even you can lift it with one finger, so it’s not much heavy at all. If you look under the handle, you got this nice textured grip that’s a new touch, makes it a lot more sturdy in your hands. On the front, you got two JBL Brandon, there is your battery level indicator underneath the Brandon. On the top, giggles your buttons, so you got the JBL party boost button, volume down button, Bluetooth button, volume up button, and play and pause button.

On one side, you got the JBL Brandon and on the other side JBL signature, and on the bottom nice big rubber stopper, so that’s gonna keep it in place. On the back, if you open up the flap there, that’s your AC power input, that’s the USB-A out that’s for the charging bank, micro-USB that’s for service, and a 3.5 auxiliary input. If we do a size comparison of this with the original JBL Boombox, they have basically the same size and the same length. I saw no real difference in the size, no real difference in the weight.

JBL PartyBox 300

On top of the speaker is where pretty much off your control is, so first of all this line gap right there where you can place your iPad or your iPhone on there if you or something and if you want to look at your chords like that you can place the tablet right there. Then you have the light control switch, press it once to simply change it to a different light pattern, or just simply turn it off. Then there is the Bluetooth button to put it into Bluetooth mode, just press this button down and hold it down for about four seconds and it will go to Bluetooth mode, lights will start to blink and then you can find the PartyBox 300 in your phone or computer or tablet Bluetooth menu.

Then you have an on and off switch to hold this down for about four seconds to power it on or off. You have five led lights right there to let you know the battery level of the speaker itself and on the opposite side, you have a bass boost button. Then we have the audio down which is the minus sign and audio up which is the plus sign, and in the middle is a play or pause button. On top, you have a handle right there which allows you to carry the speaker around and you do also have another handle that is exactly the same at the bottom. On the top of the back is where you have all of your inputs and outputs. When you lay it on its side, it stays in place very firmly thanks to the four little pieces of the rubberized pad right there but it holds in place extremely well.

JBL Boombox 2

As far as the features, you get Bluetooth version 5.1, you got JBL signature pro sound, monsterous bass, the battery life is 24 hours, and it takes six and a half hours to fully charge the speaker. On a side note, if you’re playing this at max volume cut that battery life in half. The speaker is IPX7 splash-proof which means some raindrops or some splashes won’t hurt it but you can’t submerge it in the pool. You have got a built-in power bank which is 5 volts 2 amps, so this way you can charge your phone, your tablet, your camera whatever you got on deck.

The speaker features party boosts that mean you can connect multiple speakers that feature JBL party boosts. On a side note, if you got the original Boombox that’s JBL connect plus, so you can’t connect the old Boombox to the Boombox 2. Then you also got a built-in carrying handle so that’s all for 500 dollars. In the box, you got your usual books, you got your plug, and your speaker itself, it’s pretty much it.

For the pairing process, all you have to do is power up the speaker, press the Bluetooth button, go to your phone’s Bluetooth menu, and select the Boombox 2. In order to connect two JBl Boombox 2 speakers together, you’re gonna use JBL party boost. That’s one of the things, I love about this speaker, how easy it is to connect to the second speaker. All you have to do is press the party boost button on the first speaker, press the party boost button on the second speaker, and it takes literally under 10 seconds to connect and you are done.

JBL PartyBox 300

If we take a quick look at the actual speaker itself, it is about 35 pounds in weight and dimension-wise it is about 12 inches from front to back and from left to right, and 27.1 inches from top to bottom. There’s only three lights option the first option shows the light moving, in the second option the light remains with the same light and in the third option it changes when you have the music turned on, and also, you can have it turned off at any time if you don’t want the light to be on. You have a 6.5-inch subwoofer, and you have two 2.3 inches tweeters and on both sides, they have the JBL logo here along with four orange pads right there for anti-slippery. That way if you want to lay it down on its side it will not slide or move anywhere.

You have the bass Boost feature in this speaker and this is a really nice feature exactly, the same as the PartyBox 1000. So there are two different levels that you can have the bass turned on. First is initially you can leave it on-off so if you press it once, bass boost that’s level, and one press it once again for more bass that is bass boost level two. You will know a significant difference in the bass once you test these bass boost buttons out right there. If your phone tablet or computer is not around but it is still within range of about 33 feet or so when you’re connecting it to Bluetooth, you can press the play-pause button to pause the music or play the music and increase volume or decrease volume.

We do have your charger input which is the power cord, and this does have a built-in 10000 milliamp battery and it could last up to 18 hours of continuous use on one single full charge. But as a matter of fact, I’ve been using this for several months and there has never been a time where I’ve totally run it out of battery yet. It the longest I’ve used it in about five hours or so like that but it was still going strong had no issue with the battery going out at all. Also, you have the AC input, then you do have a USB output that you can charge your phone tablet or iPad which is a very convenient feature, you can just leave your iPad or tablet up here and then charge it using the battery that is built inside of here, so you can kind of use this as a power bank as well.

We do have a 3.5-millimeter auxiliary input if you want to play this as wired, and then you do have the RCA input and output. Then you have a quarter-inch microphone input and you have a quarter-inch guitar input, and you also have the gains for both of them a microphone and the guitar on top right there as well. So I use the microphone input which is very nice if you want to sing karaoke or you know do any kind of MC work on the guitar, and also, it sounds very nice.

SOUND QUALITY:

JBL Boombox 2

As far as the sound quality of this speaker, honestly, this speaker sounds incredible. If two JBL Boombox 2 is paired together, it sounds incredibly loud when two of them are connected. The JBL Boombox 2 might sound a tiny bit and I mean a tiny bit better and cleaner than the original. But it’s not worth an extra hundred dollars. If you already got a JBL Boombox, you don’t need to upgrade and get the Boombox 2, if you expect better sound quality out of this. But still, the sound quality on this speaker is incredible, the bass is thunderous, I literally love this speaker.

JBL PartyBox 300

I’ve got to say for the price range this speaker comes in at it does absolutely amazing and I was pretty much blown away by its sound quality. The tweeters that are behind the grille depending, if you keep standing the speaker up or laying it on its side, the different ones will play according to how you position the speaker. But either way, you will still get stereo mode which sounds amazing for again the size of how much it costs. It is pretty powerful for its size, it is more powerful than the S1 Pro in terms that you know it has much more bass and it does get louder than the Bose S1 Pro as well. 

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

If you don’t have the original Boombox then you might want to get the Boombox 2 because it has Bluetooth 5.1, you’re gonna get a better connection. The Boombox 2 speaker doesn’t worth 500 dollars, the reason is that JBL PartyBox is 400 dollars and this one doesn’t sound that much better and definitely not $100 better. I just wish the price was a little bit cheaper but you got Bluetooth 5.1, you got 24-hour battery life, it’s IPX7 splash-proof, you got a party boost feature, so you could connect multiple speakers and you got a built-in power bank. In my opinion, in terms of sound, the PartyBox 300 is worth buying than the Boombox2.
