The HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset is arguably one of, if not the best analogue gaming headset around and its performance is only limited by the device that you are connecting it to.

The Kingston HyperX Cloud Alpha professional gaming headset is a great all-round headset built for serious gaming. For a price of under Rs 9000, the HyperX Cloud Alpha is a good choice for someone looking to buy a professional analogue gaming headset.

Although we don’t expect perfection from a $100 gaming headset, the HyperX Cloud Alpha’s sound quality comes close. Moreover, Kingston uses reasonably high-quality materials put together in a solid way. Our award is well-deserved.

A truly magnificent headset for both gaming and music. Needs either rotatable or foldable earcups design and a hard shell case to truly be a portable headset that I can stuff in my bag and carry around. Overall, great comfort and great sound quality, comes with a decent detachable microphone too.

The HyperX Cloud Alpha is probably the best value-for-money gaming headset in the market now.

Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech G433

This is the Logitech G433, a wide gaming headset that is pretty flexible as it’s got some cables detached at the moment but it comes with a range of different microphones, range of different cables and it’s probably the most flexible and versatile headset that I’ve tested so far.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

This headset design is not very new or anything, it looks more of same like the older models of HyperX. The comfort and sound and the all the other things also good enough.

DESIGN:

Logitech G433

It’s covered in fabric which is something that is definitely quite different and it’s definitely a breath of fresh air when it comes to headset design. It doesn’t scream gamer like a lot of them do but personally I think it actually looks pretty good. It does come in different colors which are red, blue, and black. The top part of the headset is plastic and does feel a little bit on the cheaper side unfortunately and it’s worth noting that this is a headset that costs over above 50$.

It is pretty similar in design to the Logitech G533 which is of course wireless and a lot of people won’t mind about that sort of thing but I do think it’s important to compare this to a pair of dedicated headphones which something like the Sennheiser Momentum’s which are cheaper. The build quality on there is way better than you’ll find here. So, you are definitely giving up build quality when you’re picking a headset like this.

I think this is a good design. I just wish it felt a little bit more expensive because if you spend this much price on this, I think you will be slightly disappointed on the build quality.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

It designed of plastic with the metal frames on both the sides above the ear cups. The metal frames help the headset to swivel. It’s fully designed with the black plastic with the red metal frame and also with the leatherette ear cups.

COMFORT:

Logitech G433

Underside of the headband, there’s plenty of foam and it’s covered in cloth and this is a material that I think is a good choice because it’s not going to become overly sweaty in use. It feels quite light and quite airy and it does make for a comfortable fit. The whole unit can be adjusted by using those sub tabs on the left and right hand side, simply pull it to the side of your head.

The ear cups is the part that is covered in that fabric although it is color matched of course to the rest of headset. While it definitely does look very good and again it doesn’t really feel that expensive because if you get the headset you actually touch it and you tap it it, the noise which personally I don’t really think is that acceptable for something that costs over this price.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

You will get very very soft leatherette pads. They look to be removable and not memory foam in there at all and then this is sort of aluminum material and glossy on the sides with a HyperX logo. The top of the headset has a nice stitched and padded. Also, it has a HyperX logo on the headband.

They seem to readjust themselves every time I put them on which is not a huge problem. They are super comfortable, they have a little bit of weight to them but they’re not heavy. Then, when you put them on they are just sit really nicely, comfortably, everything is very soft and comfortable.

FEATURES:

Logitech G433

The inside of the headset are removable. You can take off the stock cloth covers that you’ll find and you can replace them with like a microfiber cloth type material again doesn’t necessarily feel that expensive but I really do actually quite like this material. It’s very comfortable against your head and it doesn’t get overly hot even in summer.

You will get the headset cable with inline mic with mute button. Also, you will get splitter cable, detachable boom mic and also USB adapter to get an excellent sound. The sound can also better by using the Logitech G hub software.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

It also has very thick, very supple braided cable and then it has a chat game mix rocker as well as a mute switch for when you have the microphone on and so you want to mute it. This is a short cable, this is the cable that’s designed more for plugging into the game console controllers. I have used this with the PlayStation 4 and I’m happy to report that while a lot of headsets don’t have enough which is like they’re not sensitive enough to pick up and really drive the headphones with game controllers. These get plenty of sound in my estimation and and I was quite happy with them.

They come with not only the microphone and this one cable but they also come with the other cable that you can use to plug into your PC. It’s an extended cable.

MICROPHONE:

Logitech G433

The microphone though is completely detachable from the unit itself and the cool thing here is that you get a choice of two. You can either use the boom microphone is more like your traditional headset, it does have a pop filter on it as well but you’ve also got an inline microphone as well that you can use when you’re on the go or with your PC or your console. I’d recommend sticking with the boom microphone all the time you’re at home.

The quality of the boom microphone is actually glass leading and it is really surprising when I listen to it and just how clean the recording sounded. It’s definitely not the best microphone I’ve ever heard but compare it to a lot of other headsets in this price range, I actually think it probably is one of if not the best in its class because while it is a little bit nasally.

It’s actually very clear, it’s very easy to understand and if you want to talk your friends in game or over Skype or other voice over IP applications, I think it can be a really good choice. So, the boom microphone on board sounds fantastic and obviously you can use the inline remote if you prefer and the sound quality of that isn’t going to be the same.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

You get this mic and it’s got a nice sort of goose-neck type which is very nicely done foam padding. The mic is detachable so you can only use this one when you want to, otherwise you can only use the headset as a regular pair of headphones.

It sounds little bit wonky otherwise it does the job well. It sounds good enough and you can listen the voice very well. By the way, atleast you can this one for gaming and for any casual use.

SOUND:

Logitech G433

The audio quality is going to depend depending on whether you want to use the included DAC that gives you that 7.1 virtual surround sound courtesy of DTS X headphone which should be noted that is not going to sound as good as dedicated surround sounds. But personally, I think is a trade-off I’m willing to make because I found that headsets that have more drivers tend to sort of sounds worse in terms of outright quality, vocals do make up that by having better surround sound but virtual surround sound is always words playing about with games like Mass Effect Andromeda. I found that it can help us or open up the sound-stage a little bit but some games you probably won’t really notice that much of a difference and things like music I really wouldn’t advise using it at all. Just stick with the stock configuration.

The clever thing here is that you don’t have to use this USB DAC, so regardless of whether you’re using console or PC you can plug it into any three-and-a-half millimeter jack and then make use of the microphone and of course, the headset speakers themselves.

I found that listening to music on this was what I would describe as acceptable too good. It definitely was a little bit on the muddy side. It’s not the most detailed sound out there, I’m sure the sound will open up a little bit as I use this headset for a longer period of time but out of the box and after a few hours of listening, it’s certainly enjoyable it depends what you listen to. If you’re someone that really takes your music seriously you like maybe listening to smooth jazz and really like to be able to listen to the detail and the clarity of vocals then it’s not really going to do a fantastic job. If you are someone that does play games and listen to a lot of music then don’t choose this one.

The level of bass of the headset is all the headsets I’ve come across so far for me it perfect. Obviously, you can tune it and using the included software if you like on the PC side of things. Out of the box, I found that everything had enough punch to it but it was never overpowering and the overall sort of tuning of the sound, I found has been excellent and playing games like Gears of War 4. I found that it was quite easy to sort of just get on with it.

I just have a good, enjoyable gaming experience without sort of feeling like I was missing out on not using my speakers. It’s not the best sound in the world, it’s not the most detailed but the gaming it’s rather good and playing something like prey as well, it was quite easy to get immersed in the action and then have the sort of subtle prey soundtracks and as you get towards like a story point in the game. Overall, it does definitely sound pretty good.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

I have been using them to play a little bit of battlefield 4, a little bit of other stuff as well as to listen to some music. In game, they sound really good, very tight, very crisp, decent amount of bass, no fuzzy, murky mid-range or low-end, just really tight and crisp. It’s been a while since I use the cloud 2 but if I remember correctly the cloud 2 was probably very similar to these but these I think they’re maybe slightly a step above the cloud 2.

They are obviously not Wireless, they obviously don’t have any surround sound going with them but they are a fantastic set of headphones. I was just listening through to try and get a sense of how good a set of headphones really are and I do this with gaming headsets as well as with other headphones. I sort of tracked through the list and through a different a bunch of different kinds of music and found that these sounded really good. You can use these as regular headphones as like listening music, watching movies etc,.

CONCLUSION:

Logitech G433

This is the headset that I really liked and I still do like it but I only found out about the price. I think it’s perhaps a little bit disappointing that it doesn’t sound that much better than some of its competition, it is a fair amount more expensive. I do like the fabricated design and I do like the fact that it has, one of the best microphones in it class. It’s highly versatile and can be used with PC, consoles, and can be used on the go as well with that inline remote but for a headset there is a little bit on the cheaper feeding side and doesn’t have the best audio quality out there.

It is slightly difficult to give a recommendation. If you’re after the design of it or you’re after that versatility or just having the best microphone available in the sort of price bracket then it does come recommend it.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

These things are great. These things are really good as the cloud 2. These are better, these feel more premium than the cloud 2 and they are very nice.

I’m really impressed with them. It’s been a while since I’ve been really impressed with a gaming headset. They’re very simple, they’re stereo only but the fit and finish, the build of them is very nice and comfortable and I don’t think you can go wrong if you want to pick these up.
