Detail review:

INTRODUCTION:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The Razer Kraken Ultimate is currently retailing for 123 dollars. These headsets are coming with the RGB Chroma lighting which makes them look stylish. They do have the THX spacial sound, so it sounds great.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

When you’re looking for a gaming headphone, the first thing you expect is obviously better sound quality and another thing you should expect is comfort. In terms of sound and comfort, these are really good at their price. These headsets are currently retailing for around 95 dollars.

6.7 Razer Kraken Ultimate 1

DESIGN:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The headset is fully made up of aluminum, steel, and plastic. We have got an adjustable headband in these. The one thing I really liked about the Razer ones is that they’ve got numbers on the extender so that you can adjust it with the correct size on both sides. There is a Razer logo on the top of the headband. The headband is made of some type of leather material. The one thing that is annoying me in this is the wire coming out there near the headband. If by mistake you pull that wire, then your headset may not work again. So, you must be careful with that.

You have the RGB chroma lighting on the outside of the earcups and there is the Razer logo which will also light up. You’ve got the THX button on the back of the ear cup, you can turn on and off the THX spacial sound from there itself. These headsets have the pull-out and push-in mechanism for the microphone. There is a mute button on the mic itself. When you press that button, it turns red. Also, the microphone here is retractable, so you can position it as you want and it stays at how you have positioned it.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

This headset is constructed of hard plastic and aluminum. The headband and ear cups are stuffed with the memory foam. When it comes to like the build quality the HyperX is really good. I’ve dropped these like from like at least from 4 feet tall by mistake. Honestly, they’re fine but there are little scratches on the non-metal parts and the metal parts are pretty much intact. The built quality is really sturdy. The microphone here is a detachable one and it is retractable too. So, it stays as how it has been positioned.

COMFORT:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The ear cups here are really comfortable because of the cooling ear gel technology. The ear cups are cushioned enough. They are made of some kind of leather which feels comfortable. The ear cups in this headset are eyewear friendly too. So, no need for you to worry about it will pain you during long sessions if you are wearing glasses. These are specially designed like that.

There is no too much clamp force with these headsets, so you will not feel any kind of uncomfortable while using it for a long time. At the same time, they don’t fall off from your head. Actually the clamping force is perfect in these as per the need. The comfort level in these is pretty good at this price range.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

The top of the headband is very plushy right there. The whole entire top is covered with enough cushions, which makes it very comfortable to use. As well as we have the memory foam on the side of the ear cups too. When it comes to comfort, there’s also a kind of clamping force on these. I don’t have a problem with the clamping force but when at first I had it, these were definitely like kind of clamp on my head more and it was a little uncomfortable for me. Then after a while, it got loose and they’re fine.

The memory foam that we have in this headset is like very plush on the side of your ears and they’re really comfortable but sometimes the ears kind of touch the drivers on the inside. So, that would be a little uncomfortable. Overall, other than that honestly these are very comfortable and I enjoy wearing them for hours and hours a day. When it comes to like the adjustable band on these, I find that they’re very easy to move. There are also number marks on the adjustable band so that you can adjust it as per the size of your head on both sides equally. In this way, they fit pretty well and they are comfortable too for the most part.

6.7 Hyperx Cloud Alpha 2

FEATURES:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The box claims that these have active noise cancellation microphone, it’s aluminum and steel construction, eyewear friendly, cooling gel cushions, USB surround sound, the RGB chroma light, the THX spacial sound and 50-millimeter drivers which is all good.

In the Razer synapse software, we need to choose the Kraken ultimate first. Then you have the audio option, you need to choose that. You do have different profiles there the Kraken music or the Kraken games, you can choose anyone from that. Inside the audio option, you have the sound at first. In the sound page, we’ve got volume, we could turn that up and down, and then we’ve got THX spatial audio demo. Then you can test on the stereo or surround sound there.

Then you have the mixer. In the mixer page, you have the THX on and off button and the calibration for the THX spacial sound. You do have the different apps there for which you can choose the stereo or surround sound. Then we have enhancements. This is a sound enhancement in which we have a bass boost we can turn that off and on, the sound normalization, and the voice clarity. You can also change its level up and down as per your wish.

Next to enhancement, we have the equalizer, in which we have different presets like default, game, movie, music, and custom. There is also a mic page in the software in which you can adjust the mic volume, sidetone, and mic sensitivity. From there you can also turn on the active noise cancellation, volume normalization, and vocal clarity. Then the last will be your lighting in which you can customize the RGB chroma lighting and brightness. You do have quick effects and advanced effects option there, so you can choose anyone from their sub-option.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

The HyperX Cloud Alpha comes with a mic that you can plug in and they also give you a carrying pouch. The HyperX Cloud Alfa is just very simple to use. There are no extra features, dongles, and all these types of things. You have to just plug it into your computer and you’re good to go. It uses just a 3.5-millimeter jack to connect and that’s it.

The HyperX claims that they are providing an extra chamber for less distortion. This headset comes with a detachable braided cable along with the inline controls to adjust volume and to mute the mic. The microphone that comes with this headset is a noise cancellation detachable microphone. The Cloud Alpha has multi-platform compatibility as it can work with the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and other platforms that have a 3.5-millimeter port.

MICROPHONE:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The microphone works really well in terms of active noise cancellation. It’s not the best but it’s good at its price. The sound quality of the microphone is also pretty good. If you are not satisfied with the sound quality of the mic then you can also adjust the vocal clarity of the mic as you want from the software. You can also turn on the sidetone from the software if you want to hear your own voice while you are using the mic.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

The microphone of the HyperX Cloud Alpha works pretty well. It sounds not bad, it’s actually pretty clear. The Blue Yeti obviously sounds better but I actually do like it a lot because of the noise cancelation. When it comes to the microphone quality, adequate people are saying obviously, it’s not as good as something like the Blue Yeti. Still, the microphone sounds really pretty good at its price range along with noise cancelation.

SOUND:

Razer Kraken Ultimate

The Razer Kraken Ultimate is a bass-heavy headset. These do balances the treble nad mids little better. You can also go into the Razer Synapse software and play with the equalizer to get the sound as you want. You can easily tell where different sounds are coming from. As far as gaming, these do sound good. You can easily hear the footsteps of the enemies. These are not much good for listening to music. But they do sound good for watching movies. The bass is so much punchy in these, so it sounds good for games and movies. We are also getting the THX spacial sound in these headsets. With the THX, we could experience a great sound experience.

HyperX Cloud Alpha

When it comes to the sound quality of this headset, I find the bass to be very precise and accurate. It’s not like the Beats headphones where it just like drowns out everything. These have like deep bass, it’s very nice controlled and it’s punchy. When I play games like Virtual Valerie I can hear the gunshots sound really good. You can still hear footsteps as well as like the gunshots and all the crazy things. If you want a gaming headphone in which you want good positional audio and being able to hear things accurately, I think this does a good job in that manner.

I found when you listen to music with these, the highs and the vocals are really good. I’ve tried other headphones like the Sony WH-XM3, though they’re Wireless like sound-canceling over-ear headphones, and compared to those, I find those have better sound quality like in detail, vocals and more. So, I think that’s something that you don’t have here but at the same time, this is a gaming headset you can’t expect that out of this for music. As far as games these sound really good as a gaming headset, at this price range.

6.7 Hyperx Cloud Alpha 3

WHICH ONE HAS BETTER FEATURES?

In my opinion, the Razer Kraken Ultimate has better features than the HyperX Cloud Alpha because the Kraken ultimate does come with the RGB lighting, THX spacial sound, and Razer Synapse software to adjust the sound quality and all but in Cloud Alpha, we are getting none of these features.

Expert Reviews of Razer Kraken Ultimate:

By ThinkComputers
Razer added active noise canceling to the microphone, which does a pretty good job of canceling out unwanted noises. The other change is that you get RGB lighting on the headset itself, which looks pretty cool.

The HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset is arguably one of, if not the best analogue gaming headset around and its performance is only limited by the device that you are connecting it to.

By GadgetsNow
The Kingston HyperX Cloud Alpha professional gaming headset is a great all-round headset built for serious gaming. For a price of under Rs 9000, the HyperX Cloud Alpha is a good choice for someone looking to buy a professional analogue gaming headset.

By TomsHardware
Although we don’t expect perfection from a $100 gaming headset, the HyperX Cloud Alpha’s sound quality comes close. Moreover, Kingston uses reasonably high-quality materials put together in a solid way. Our award is well-deserved.

By NLT
A truly magnificent headset for both gaming and music. Needs either rotatable or foldable earcups design and a hard shell case to truly be a portable headset that I can stuff in my bag and carry around. Overall, great comfort and great sound quality, comes with a decent detachable microphone too.

By TheStraitsTimes
The HyperX Cloud Alpha is probably the best value-for-money gaming headset in the market now.
