Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Jaybird X4

The X4 differs from the X3 and there actually isn’t a whole lot of difference but I think that’s actually mainly a good thing. These headsets are currently retailing for around a hundred and thirty dollars.

Jaybird X3

The Jaybird X3 is a wireless sweat-proof sports earbuds. The price of this is around a hundred and thirty dollars. These are available in two different colors you got black or white. The X3 is a secure fit sweat-proof premium sports earbuds delivering superior audio performance, music, and calls, and a sleek helmet compatible metal accented design.

DESIGN:

Jaybird X4

The Sport-Fit Plus system does allow you to wear it with the cord hanging in front of your neck or above. It provides a lot of different wearing options. The X4 is pretty much gonna be the same as the X3 and X3 is also really good headphones. The X4 as wells as the X3 isn’t exactly the most felt of a design so if you’re a cyclist you may encounter a little bit of wind noise because they do stick out from your ear just a little bit.

Jaybird along with some other companies tend to like to change their charging clip solutions with nearly every single upgrade or update that they come out. But I am super happy to report that you can actually use the same charging clip on the X3 and the X4 and vice versa. The only difference is that the X4 has a one-piece charging clip where the X3 has a two-piece charging clip where you can actually remove the other portion of it. It’s pretty nice to see that you can actually use one with the other.

Jaybird X3

The carrying case has a spring mechanism on the inside so when you open these up they’re closed by itself. These actually take a little bit of work to open these cases, so it’s gonna keep everything safe. The charging cable doesn’t take micro USB charging you’re gonna have to use this special is the cradle. The good thing is it has a little string on it so this way you ain’t gonna lose this.

These earbuds have the standard length for its cord, the top of the earbud is plastic with a nice coating, you got metal trim, and there is your Jaybird logo. The tubes are a little bit smaller than the X2 and on the X3 the tube actually curves in so, this is going to give you a better fit. With your inline controls, you got to play- pause, also answering and phone calls, volume up and down, and also skip and reverse tracks.

COMFORT:

Jaybird X4

There are also going to be brand new comply ultra phone tips that come with the X4 and I know that these are really popular but I tend to like the silicon tips a little bit better. Then the ear fins also take on a slightly different form with the X4 and rather than having that cool-looking hexagon pattern they went with a more loop looking design which may not be as aesthetically pleasing but they do work really well probably, actually a little bit more secure than the previous generation.

The X4 is using cable management cinch rather than the cable management little thingies that came on the X3. I like to wear headphones with the cord hanging in front while cycling and what happens is that if you route them behind your neck it can kind of interfere with some of the helmet retention systems there. If you were to route them above your ear, well what ends up happening is that it could cause some discomfort with sunglasses. Then finally it’s just a little bit easier to access the remote when it’s hanging straight down.

Jaybird X3

You get three sized wings and the wings they look a little bit different than X2 wings if you notice these actually have a curve so, they’re gonna sit that in your ear. Personally, I don’t use the wings at all because I use the comply tips. You get foam tips and comply with tips both along with the wings.

When you use the complied tips you won’t even need the wings. When you use the complies whatever size your ear canal is, once it goes in it’s gonna mold to that size. So you’re gonna want to use the comply tips to get a better fit. But you can also use the one which fits you perfectly.

FEATURES:

Jaybird X4

The biggest difference is that the X4 is going to be fully sweatproof and waterproof not just the water-resistant and sweat-proof design of the X3. So the X4 are ipx7 rated meaning that you can actually have these submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes which is pretty impressive.

The X4 uses Bluetooth 4.1 so I was able to get about 30 feet away from my phone before it started to lose a connection. Then in regards to connectivity with smartwatches, I was able to pair it with pretty much every watch that I had laying around with no problems. I didn’t have the issues with the X4 in terms of connectivity. The X4 is definitely a solid update to the X3 being fully waterproof but that should probably be the only compelling reason for you to upgrade.

Unfortunately, what happens is that if you do wear the cord hanging in front what happens is that you have the little extra bit of cord that’s hanging from the front here which can get caught on some shirt and some zippers but it is rather quick. But you can use them hanging behind the neck to avoid that problem.

Jaybird X3

The box claims that you got your inline remote, patented secure fit, you get the My Sound app, these are sweatproof, you get a guarantee, you got micro-sized Universal fit, you get to comply isolated foam ear tips, and you get voice prompts. The app is available on iOS and Android and you can customize your sound with the Jaybirds My Sound app and save your unique sound profile directly to your X3 buds.

Inside the box, you get your earbuds, your carrying case, you get to Jaybirds troll sticker, and usual books and guarantee card. In the case, there is gonna be your charger, then you have your ear wings, you get the foam ear tips as well as comply tips, and then you have your cable management system.

To pair your headphones is really simple. Just turn them on, open up the app, and select pair, that’s gonna take you about 30 seconds. In the settings, you got battery notifications that let you see your headphones’ battery status in the notification bar when connected. You can also switch from the left and right audio. You got a bunch of preset audio profiles from different athletes, you can try out if you want or you can set up your own profile and play with the EQ for yourself.

Jaybird X4

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

Jaybird X4

The battery life is rated at 8 hours and I was getting more like 7 out of mine but I do listen to my music a little bit louder than I probably should be so just keep that in mind. It also does have the quick charge feature where if you plug it in for just 10 minutes it’s supposed to give you about an hour’s worth of playtime. Again it’s a little bit shorter for my testing about 45 minutes but still not bad.

Jaybird X3

With eight hours of playtime, you get a full week’s worth of workouts on a single charge. And a 15-minute quick charge gets you a full hour of playtime. Eight hours of playtime that’s usually on 50% volume so if you rock out on max volume then you’re going to get about four to five hours. When you want to charge these up, you’re gonna take that little charging cradle and just connect it right to your headphones and plug it in.

SOUND:

Jaybird X4

The sound quality will also be the same as the X3 and I couldn’t really tell a difference between them even when trying out different equalizer settings with the Jaybird app. I had nothing to complain about the X3 so that’s good to go there with the X4 also. The sound profile out of the box is nice and balanced and you can get everything from a super heavy bass response to easy listening sound profiles depending on your needs.

Jaybird X3

I used the comply tips with the max volume to test the sound quality on these. It sounds nice and loud, and these do sound great out of the box without any adjustments in the EQ. Then with the EQ, I add more bass, and mids on high, I actually added everything on max and these headphones got twice as loud.

Download the app to get a better sound experience and to get them ridiculously loud. The X3 actually sounds better than the Freedoms model. I connected both of them to the iPhone without a sound app at all and the same music on both the X3 actually sound better they got way more bass.

jaybird X3

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

In my opinion, the Jaybird X4 is worth buying than the Jaybird X3 for the same price because almost they both sound the same, and have the same comfort level but the X4 is ipx7 rated sweatproof and waterproof while the X3 is sweatproof and water-resistant and the battery life on X4 stays for a longer time with the max volume than the X3.
