Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Jaybird X4

The Jaybird X4 is the updated version of its previous model. These earphones are designed for athletes. These earphones are currently retailing for around a hundred and thirty dollars.

Jaybird Vista

The Jaybird Vista is Jaybird’s next generation of truly wireless sport headphones. They packed a lot of new stuff inside the vista and these aren’t just an incremental upgrade but also they’re completely new from the Run Xt. It’s kind of like how the Tarah Pro has a lot different than the X4.

Jaybird X4

DESIGN:

Jaybird X4

Right out of the box, they’ve got the silicone covers on them and the ear tips, and these basically just pop off and you can change them. It has a really irritating charging cable because it comes to the bottom of the headphones and it needs to go certain in away. So, you can’t put it either way and it doesn’t magnetically clip you’ve just kind of got to figure it out and see which way it Clips like that and then you plug it in.

On the right-hand sides of these headphones, you have your inline controls which are really nice. It has controls such as plus/minus which is obviously your volume, and if you hold them it will skip your tracks, and the middle to tether to power on and power off. These are a hundred percent more durable because they’ll be good in the office, they’ll be good on the airplane, they’ll be good around the house, they’ll be good for like gym workouts and stuff like that.

You have also got a cinch, so you can cinch it up and down creating a kind of tighter fit. You have also got a clip over here. You can actually clip it to the outside of your t-shirt on the back so that it does not disturb you while you are running or jogging or while doing your gym activities.

Jaybird Vista

The Vistas are gonna be really small and really light, each earbud weighs just 6 grams so these barely just tip the scales. But just because they’re incredibly light it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re gonna be fragile by any means.

To store the earbuds Jaybird has an all-new cast that’s nice and felt and comes with a little lanyard that you can attach it easily to all of the different things. Probably not so coincidentally it feels and looks like the exact same material that they use for the cord on the Tarah Pros.

The case is also small enough that you can just stash it inside your pocket. There’s some neat stuff about the case itself. First off it’s gonna be how you charge them and you’ll notice that they’re held in place with the magnets and these magnets are strong.

COMFORT:

Jaybird X4

They do give you a lot of functionality when it comes to fit and comfort. You have got two different sized foam tips and silicone tips large ones and smaller ones. You have got three different size fins as well. So, you can obviously get the right fit as per the size of your ears and they comfortable enough too.

It needs to be comfortable along with the fit obviously because running, jogging, and stuff you can’t have headphones that can hurt your ears. When I first tried them on, it did take three or four days to kind of get used to these fins. You can’t kind of rotate them either way up or down to fit in your ear, so that’s kind of takes some time to get used to fitting them in your ear.

Then obviously the comfort and fit depends on what tips you kind of have to go through them and kind of what you like the most. Obviously, with the foam ear tips, you compress them before you put them in your ear because they are like memory foam. So they offer a bit of seal which obviously offers a bit of better sound. The silicone ear tips kind of let in more of the ambient noise the traffic and all that stuff. So, you might like either one, you’ve just got to test them up.

Jaybird Vista

Jaybirds tend to fit me pretty well straight out of the box. But there are two additional sizes of ear gels to choose from and then one of those does not have the ear fin if that’s what you prefer. The ear fins and tips are actually combined which should help prevent that dreaded scenario of losing an ear tip.

Jaybird Vista

FEATURES:

Jaybird X4

The packaging is really nice and inside the box, it claims that it is designed for athletes built for adventure. So they are kind of for ultra trail running, running outdoors kind of something where normal headphones perhaps will fall out. Obviously, the ipx7 water rating will not allow them to get damaged by sweat and rain, so they are quite rugged.

Inside of the box, the accessories come in a little pouch over which is pretty good. You can just put them put all your accessories in this little pouch and carry them along with you and you can drop them in your gym bag. In the carrying pouch, you have got your charging cable, some extra foam ear tips and comply ear tips, also some ear wings, and the cable management accessories.

It has a very nice package, showing the Jaybird app on the side, and the back with some of the available features and accessories. Getting straight into the features of these headphones obviously, they’re Wireless, a sweatproof, and waterproof that is an IPX7, these have sports fit so it kind of fit into ears holding the headphones in, they’ve got foam and silicone tips available that come with them, you can use them for both kinds of music like Spotify you and all that stuff obviously with your phones, and you can also use them for phone calls.

Jaybird Vista

Jaybirds calling these earth proof which encompasses two things. The first of which is that the Vistas are going to be ipx7 waterproof just like all their other current offerings but just note that they aren’t designed for swimming.

Waterproofing is one thing that a lot of headphones can pull off but sweat proofing is a whole another beast because pH levels and sweat can vary from person to person and Jaybird does pay special attention to this. So even if a given pair of headphones are waterproof, they may not be sweat proof.

They’ve used the nano-coating technology and some of their previous headphones to keep things sealed up which has worked really well for me but with the vistas, they’re going to be completely encapsulated. So they should provide even better water and sweat proofing than this. The second part of the earth proofing is that they actually tested these by applying about 80 pounds of force to each earbud so kind of like replicating an average size runner accidentally stepping on them so that’s kind of neat to see.

They’ll automatically turn on when you remove them from the case and automatically shut off and start charging when you place them back into the case. If for some reason you have them outside the case and you don’t have them playing, they’ll automatically shut off and you can change the setting in the Jaybird app. To pair them up with your device, you’ll open up the case and then long-press the small button on the inside of the case and then they should show up in your device of choice.

I paired them with the iPhone, our Garmin Phoenix five-plus, as well as an Apple watch without any issues. One issue that did plague the Run XT was that there were some intermittent connectivity issues between the two earbuds as these use Bluetooth 4.1 but I’m super happy to report that the Vistas do use Bluetooth 5.0 which is really great and I haven’t had any connectivity issues with the Vista.

Another thing about the connectivity is that once they are paired for the first time, they connect incredibly fast to your device it’s within just a couple of seconds. Often times, the connected message will play even before you have a chance to put them in your ears. They have also updated the RF technology and I did not experience any latency with video content either.

They have a simple one-button control on each earbud that allows you to play and pause, go to the next track, and power them off. You can customize the functions in the Jaybird app where there are a few more things that you can do. There’s also the “Find My Bud” feature which can show you the last-known location of your earbuds.

Finally, with the Vistas, you can use either earbud completely independently of the other. If you are a cyclist who does choose to wear headphones when they ride, then using one earbud is generally the safer decision so that way you can hear traffic as well as other trail users. If you are just using one earbud they actually combine the stereo signal that’s coming on to your device into just one signal. So that way you’re not getting just the left or the right channel that way you get on both.

Jaybird X4

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

Jaybird X4

These earphones have eight-hour battery life. They have got a fast charge which is pretty cool, it’s a 10-minute charge that lasts for an hour. So if you find them running out of battery on the way to the gym you can just pop them into a USB.

Jaybird Vista

You should be able to get about six hours of playtime out of the buds themselves and then the case provides another ten hours. Then if for some reason your buds are completely drained, you can actually place them inside the case for about five minutes which should get you about an hour’s worth of playtime. The case itself has a little light on the outside to indicate charging, fully charged, and if the case itself needs charging. They do include a charging cable and it is USB type-c.

You can actually extend the battery life past at 16 hours by using just one earbud. If you’re just using the right earbud you can listen to this one until it’s drained put it back in the case, so it starts to charge. Then you can start to use the left earbud rinse and repeat and you could get up to 32 hours about your life.

SOUND:

Jaybird X4

For the sound on these if you’re gonna switch between the memory foam and the silicone tips, the silicone tips just letting a lot of ambient noise and it doesn’t sound like a deep sort of rich sound. But the foam tips sound much better because you’ve got to get the fit perfect.

When you’ve got to get the fit with these earphones and everything perfectly dialed and then you’ll find the sound to be much better. They’ve got the equalizer app on your iPhone or Android phone where you can customize the sound straight up or you can use the signature ones that they’ve got pre-loaded.

Jaybird Vista

Out of the box, the sound profile is nice and balanced, it’s very clean and very crisp but not heavy on the low-end by any means. So it works well for like singer-songwriter type music. But if you like anything bassy, you’ll probably want to customize the EQ which you can do in the Jaybird smartphone app. I have a few different presets that I’ve set up in the app that fit my preferences a bit more than the standard flat profile and there is a boatload that you can choose from.

The Vistas are clean and crisp right out of the box just like the Terah Pros and then when I used an EQ that brought up the low-end from what I got was, they provided pretty much the same amount of punch but they get plenty aloud. On that note, Jaybird is now using a milled driver on the Vistas rather than the stamp driver that they used before which should help with distortion.

Jaybird Vista

WHICH ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER?

In my opinion, the Jaybird Vista is better than the Jaybird X4 because Vista uses Bluetooth 5.0 while X4 uses Bluetooth 4.1, the Vista is comfortable enough than the X4 and the Vista is independent of each of its earbuds so that way you can increase the battery life in that while the X4 is independent of each other.
