This is the review of the comparison between two speakers from the same brand but from two different series. The comparison here is between the JBL Clip 2 and the JBL Go 3. INTRODUCTION:

JBL Clip 2

The JBL Clip 2 is an updated speaker of the original JBl Clip speaker. Presently the latest version from the same series is Clip 4 but the Clip 2 still on the market as it has some good features. This speaker is retailing for around fifty dollars currently on Amazon.

JBL Go 3

The JBL Go 3 comes in at a whopping forty dollars which is a pretty affordable price for a portable speaker by JBL. This is the latest version of the JBL Go series portable speakers. There are really some great upgrades in this speaker that are worth the forty dollars.

DESIGN:

JBL Clip 2

As with the JBL Clip 1, the Clip 2 also has the same Hockey pick shape to it. The front of the speaker is covered with some type of fabric mesh material and the sides and the bottom of the speaker are covered with a hard rubber material which makes the speaker study and also, waterproof. On the top of the speaker, you have got the carabiner hook, that you can use to hang the speaker to anything like a backpack, or your pant belt loop, so it becomes easy to carry around this speaker. The best part of this speaker is that you get a built-in aux cable with this speaker that goes from the sides to the bottom.

On the front of the speaker, you have the JBL logo on the mesh material. On the right side of the speaker, you have the Bluetooth pairing button, your power button, and in between these two buttons you have a gasket and when you open it, you will find your micro USB port for charging your speaker. Then on the left side, you will find your volume up and down buttons and in between them you will find your call button that is used to answer calls as there is a built-in speakerphone in this speaker. It also used to launch voice assistants, play-pause music on a single tap, and skip tract on a double-tap.

JBL Go 3

As far as the design of this speaker and one thing right off the bat that you can see is it does have a similar design as the JBL Flip 5 which is pretty nice to see because beforehand with the JBL Go 2 it was all metal but here it makes it more uniform and it ties all the speakers together within the JBL brand. At the front of the speaker, you do have a big JBL logo which stands out a lot but it also looks very nice and it seems like that’s where it should be. At the top of the speaker, you do have a play pause button, a volume up and a volume down button as well on the back of the speaker you do have a little rubber plate just so if you want to place the speaker down it won’t slide around.

On the bottom of the speaker, you also do have some rubberized grip which these ones look really nice because it’s not just a big block of rubber which would have been boring. You got nice little stripes that prevent the speaker from sliding around. On one side of the speaker, you do have the Go 3 logo as well as the Bluetooth button and the power on and off. Finally, on the other side of the speaker, you do have an exposed USB type-c port as well as a rope hoop which you can use just to carry the speaker around or tie it to your backpack which is a nice touch to see that it has this whereas the Go 2 do not have that.

FEATURES:

JBL Clip 2

This is perfect for traveling honestly, this could fill a small room very easily. But the biggest thing that I would say is that it could definitely fill something like a bathroom very easily. So that is what I think this is perfect for, a perfect travel speaker that you can take around with you wherever you go, easily fit in a carry-on or a suitcase or a backpack very simply and easily, obviously you have the really great Clip part here as this thing suggests and you can even use that as a stand to make it stand up more easily as well. I really love this speaker, it is my favorite go-to speaker for traveling, and also, I just love it for the price range, I think for fifty dollars.

One thing I love about the Clip 2 is you have a built-in headphone jack port, so you have this auxiliary cable and pretty good length too which I like so it’s pretty good to kind of plugin and then you have that. I would always plug that into my laptops if I was doing a presentation somewhere or if I just needed to plug in and I didn’t want to deal with Bluetooth, I love that ability. Overall, you’re going to have the best portable speaker that you don’t have to worry about water damage and is really great for travel friendly and the ability to have a built-in auxiliary cable and take your calls in.

JBL Go 3

Inside the box, there’s not much which doesn’t come as a surprise. You do obviously get the speaker itself, you get a USB Type-C charging cable which is very nice to see rather than micro USB as well as just a quick start manual that’s rolled up nicely and does have a little plastic which the JBL Go 2 did not. With the speaker it is IP67 waterproof, so you can drench it, soak it, do whatever you want with it and it will still be completely fine. As well this speaker is very durable meaning you can throw it, drop it, do whatever you want to it and it can still survive. So it’s a really good option if you’re someone who wants music while going on hikes, going out and about to the beach, somewhere where you know that you can’t bring a really expensive speaker but you can bring one that’s super durable, and the Go 3 is definitely that.

However, one thing that I did notice durability wise with the speaker is that because of the exposed USB Type-C port, if you take the speaker to somewhere that where there’s dirt, somewhere where there’s sand, and a little bit of that sand or dirt or dust gets inside of the port, it does affect the charging, and that’s one thing that we’ve realized is that after playing it around in a bunch of wood chips we did see a couple of particles of wood chips inside of the port, so that’s one issue that you might want to look out for.

One cool thing as well about the design is if you’re able to pry the upper part of the speaker open, you can really see the internals of the JBL Go 3 and how it works which in my opinion is pretty cool. I personally thought it was really cool to be able to see the diaphragms moving up and down pushing out the air just because it’s not something you typically see on your speakers, you’re usually not used to being able to see the diaphragms. So having that is pretty cool, and as well you can fully feel the air that it’s pushing out especially when it’s at 100 volume even when the case is closed you put your hand right there, and you can feel the air touching your head which shows just how much power the JBL Go 3 has in this little tiny case.

SOUND QUALITY:

JBL Clip 2

As far as the sound quality of this speaker, it sounds pretty good for its size. You can’t expect that loudness and punchy bass like the JBL Xtreme 2 out of this small speaker but you do get quite a good bass and loudness is pretty good for its size. As far as clarity, even though it is a budget-friendly speaker the clarity is there until and unless you go beyond the limit of 80 percent volume, and it doesn’t get distorted when you’re still on 80 percent volume.

JBL Go 3

As far as the sound quality and sound experience, this thing packs a punch. It is very bass-heavy, the prime spot in my opinion would be around 80 volume because that way the bass doesn’t fully overpower everything else but it does have a lot of power, and it literally becomes a mini disco party. When you’re holding the speaker at max volume, your hand starts to shake and you can feel it fully moving which just really goes to show how much power the Go 3 has.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

If you’re someone who’s in the market for a speaker that’s pretty budget-wise and also packs a punch, if you want to use your speaker just at your office, outside when you’re playing basketball anything, and if you want volume and bass then the JBl Go 3 is the small-budget speaker that is with buying than the Clip 2. But if you’re someone who wants loudness while having clarity, and if you’re someone who wants to have clear music at super loud volumes then the JBL Clip 2 is worth buying than the Go 3.
