Logitech MX Keys

The MX Keys by Logitech is a great wireless keyboard available in the market. The Logitech MX Keys is vailable in two versions the Mac version and the Windows version. This keyboard is retailing for around a hundred dollars currently on Amazon and this keyboard is really budget-friendly.

DESIGN AND COMFORT:

Logitech ERGO K860

If we take a look at the design and the build quality of this keyboard, the first thing you’re gonna notice is the curve that this keyboard has. This design of this keyboard is gonna help you have a more comfortable typing experience. It will give you a better posture, it’s gonna have less strain on your wrists while typing, and it’s gonna just support your overall typing experience and wrist health in the long run much better than you would while using a regular flat layout keyboard.

On Logitech’s website, they say that this keyboard will help prevent wrist strain by 54% which I kind of noticed right away when I put my wrists on this keyboard, I noticed that my hands felt much more comfortable when using this keyboard over a flack keyboard layout. The only thing that was a little strange to me is that I had to get used to what with the split layout there was when I press the keys, the B key is kind of on the wrong side of the keyboard for me. I typically when I write the letter B on the keyboard when I type that I typically do it with my right hand but with this keyboard layout it’s on the left side, so that was a little bit weird for me to get used to. But after using the keyboard for a few hours I got used to it pretty quickly, and it felt pretty natural to me.

If we look on the Logitech website, the wrist rest is made of three materials, the first layer is a knitted fabric which is gonna help keep the keyboard clean and sleek looking overall. If you get it dirty, it may not be able to be clean too well which is the only downside with this keyboard because the wrist rest is not detachable, unfortunately. Under the fabric material, you have two layers of foam which are gonna help neglect the pressure while your wrists are resting on the keyboard. If we look under the keyboard, we’re gonna see that there are some adjustable legs that have two layers you have a small leg and a big leg on each side of the keyboard. What this is gonna do is it’s gonna prop up the front of the keyboard which is gonna put your wrists in a different position.

Logitech MX Keys

The only real difference between the Mac and Windows versions is the color the Mac version is kind of like a space gray color whereas the Windows version is just full on stealth black, so really not a lot of difference. You also have these Mac keys on the Mac version and there’s no Windows buttons on the entire keyboard. If you pick up the Windows version and you go for the international option, this will actually have Windows keys as well as Mac keys, so that’s more versatile and you’re switching between different OS’s.

In terms of build quality, this thing is all plastic but it does have some weight to it and it does not feel cheap. It doesn’t creak, it doesn’t bend, it’s very solid, and it’s actually pretty heavy as well. It’s quite thin and there’s a part at the back, which contains the battery. Something I really like is there’s an eject button, so if you do actually mount like SD cards or SSD whatever it might be, you can simply click the button on the keyboard to eject them, which is super nice. Something else I like is the weight, I did mention it’s kind of hefty but that comes in really handy when you’re typing because the keyboard is super solid on the desk, it does have these rubber feet underneath and really when the keyboard is down and you’re typing it, never budges which is just great. I hate when the keyboard moves when you kind of put too much force on it, so that’s a big benefit of this.

Something, I’m not really used to is this thing has a number pad, so if you’re an accountant or you’re using numbers a lot then you might find that useful. Honestly, for me I don’t mind having it on there but I’m not really a big fan of that, so I won’t be using it. But most Mac keyboards don’t have that, so if you are looking for something with a number pad then this is something to consider. With the number pad that puts it in about 430 millimeters or 43 centimeters, so pretty standard size for a keyboard and this is comparable to the official Apple Pro keyboard which comes in space grey. If you’re looking for something a bit cheaper but similar to that, this is actually a really great option.

FEATURES AND PERFORMANCE:

Logitech ERGO K860

The keys are not backlit, which is unfortunate considering the high price tag of this keyboard, I would love to have seen at least you know some dim lights or something with this keyboard but that’s okay. I guess the alternative solution is you can just have a light on when you’re working on their low light conditions. Then if you actually inspect the keys themselves, you can see that this is a Mac-style layout keyboard, so you have the command and option keys but you don’t have any windows keys. Unfortunately, this keyboard is not designed for Windows but it will still work with Windows you just kind of have to get used to the shortcuts a little bit differently, and the only difference is the command key and the Option key. If we pop the key out of the keyboard, we can see that these are rubber-type keys that have a butterfly switch.

During my typing test, the keyboard actually sounds fairly quiet and the typing experience is pretty much a lot like any keyboard that you’ll use that has the rubber key switches. So, nothing too special with the typing experience the real special thing about this keyboard is this curve definitely. This is a wireless-only keyboard, no wired options so this keyboard is going to connect via Bluetooth 5.0 or it comes with a small USB-A dongle which can be packed in the back of the keyboard if you don’t want to use it and if you do want to use it, it’s a USB-A dongle which you can connect to your computer via USB. The wireless range of this keyboard has a 33-foot radius range of 10 meters.

The way this keyboard uses power is through two AAA batteries, these batteries are going to last you a long time because this keyboard really takes very little power. The keyboard should last you for about six to twelve months depending on your usage. An interesting feature that this keyboard has is that the Logitech has been pushing on a lot of their keyboards lately is the multi-device switching feature. There are three buttons on top up there, with the help of that buttons, you can connect up to three devices, you can connect your Mac, your windows, your phone, whatever devices you have that are Bluetooth compatible, you can connect it and switch at the click of a button by pushing these keys the top. You also have four other keys there which can be configured in the software. By default it’s gonna you’re gonna have a calculator, a battery checker, and a logout button, and a right-click kind of button which is for accessibility reasons, however, you can modify these in the software and you can make them do whatever you want.

Logitech MX Keys

This keyboard is charged up by USB Type-C and the battery is pretty good, it lasts about five months with no light whatsoever. If you turn on the back lights of the keys, it lasts 10 days which is actually pretty good. It charges up in a few hours, so really I haven’t found much of an issue. The lights also do go off, so if you leave the keyboard they will go off, and when you come back, they will come back on. There’s some really good sensors in there and that’s just really nice when you bring your hands close to the keyboard, it lights up, so it does actually have some battery saving features in.

In terms of the Bluetooth connection, there are three modes for which there are three buttons up on the top, so you can actually pair up three different devices if you want to switch between your desktop, your laptop, and maybe your tablet. There’s also an included Bluetooth dongle, so in case your desktop doesn’t have Bluetooth built in, you can use this in order to power with the keyboard. The keyboard works pretty well, you will need to download the unifying connection software by Logitech and then that will go ahead and pair up. So, not too much effort honestly, Bluetooth is pretty good, it has a range of about 10 meters but realistically you’re not going to be going too far away with this keyboard from your desktop or your laptop whatever it might be, so that’s not too much of an issue.

In terms of how this keyboard actually feels when you’re typing on it is, it kind of feels like the original Magic keyboard by Apple but imagine the keys have a little bit more travel, a tiny bit less clickiness that’s pretty much how it feels. Obviously, the keys are different as well because they’ve got the rounded indents for your fingers and honestly, that is really nice to type on. If you’re typing up like a word document or some sort of report, this is great, it’s fast for typing, obviously because of the reduced travel.
