This is the review of the comparison between two keyboards from the same brand but from different series. The comparison here is between the Logitech K780 and the K800. There is around forty-seven dollars difference in their price range currently. INTRODUCTION:

Logitech K780

Logitech K780 is a multi-device keyboard, which means this keyboard can connect up to three devices at the same time and you can easily switch between these three devices using the buttons on the top left corner. This keyboard also comes with a built-in tablet or mobile phone stand that you can use while you are typing. This keyboard is retailing for around a hundred and seven dollars currently on Amazon.

Logitech K800

The Logitech K800 is a wireless illuminated keyboard. The nice thing about this keyboard is that it is wireless, it is illuminated, and it is rather thin that’s the main selling point of this keyboard. This keyboard is retailing for around sixty dollars currently which is lower than the price on which it was retailing by Logitech when it was launched.

DESIGN: 

Logitech K780

One of the first things you’ll notice is the hard plastic stand that has a slight drop just enough to hold firmly to your phone or tablet. It’s not completely white as it has these small specks of blue, I guess it’s to make it a little bit more interesting. The power button is under the right side, you push it up and you switch it on. A green LED light will notify you that it’s currently on. On the back, you’ll find the hatch that houses the USB receiver. As far as the keys, actually, the K780 keys are a normal size for a keyboard this size. With a height of 158 millimeters, a width of 380 millimeters, and weighing only 875 grams, the K780 is safely into the portable category.

One thing I do like about this version over the K380 is the fact is the three buttons that switch between devices are white rather than yellow, that’s just a personal preference to me though I found the yellow to stand out a bit too much. So, the three buttons on the very top will pair to your three different devices, these also have an LED on each which will flash for pairing and light solid when it’s connected.

Logitech K800

As far as the design of this keyboard, I like how thin it is. I think I was a relatively thin form factor, I like how it’s not very bulky, and it doesn’t take up a lot of room on my desk. It is easy to move around because it is wireless, you can just pick it up, clean underneath it, or just move around to somewhere else and move it out of the way if you need to do something. There is one fault with the size of it though it’s very small and very flat. When I first started using it, I realized that was very low I’m to the desk because I’m usually used to my keyboards being a little bit higher up, so did take me a little bit to get adjusted to the height of the keyboard.

There are little feet underneath you can actually use to prop it up, it doesn’t prop it up that high, I like this to be a little bit taller but after using it for a week or so, you will get used to it and certainly not that big of a deal. On the back there is where we have our USB port, we can plug it in and charge the keyboard. On the top right corner is where is our battery indicator and our on and off switch for turning the keyboard or on and off.

Logitech K780

There are a few ways you can pair the keyboard to your computer, the first way is to use Bluetooth and that’s really simple, you just have to select one of the buttons from F1, F2, or F3 buttons to assign to your computer, let’s say three press and hold for three seconds and make sure the light is flashing, and go into Bluetooth settings to add a new Bluetooth device as long as the light there on the key is flashing, this keyboard is trying to establish a connection. You just have to look through the list and select the keyboard.

The second way to connect the keyboard to your computer is to use the USB wireless receiver and the Logitech Unifying software so you will need to download and install this software or driver first. Just follow the instructions, click next, and it’s very simple just turn off the keyboard and turn it back on, and it detects the keyboard instantly, so just type some characters and confirm that those are the characters that you have typed, and click next and done. The third way to connect is also to use the wireless USB receiver and the Logitech Unifying software but the steps are slightly different. So, the third way is to again press and hold the button that you want to use to connect to your device for three seconds, and next press the function plus “O” for three seconds if you want to connect to Mac iOS, if you want to connect windows its function plus “P” for three seconds and then plug this USB receiver into your computer and open the Logitech Unifying software. 

Personally, I prefer to use the second method which is to connect the USB receiver first, open the Logitech software, press and hold the button you want to connect with, power off and power on the keyboard, and the keyboard will be detected. If you want to replace your wired keyboard with this keyboard, I suggest you don’t throw away the wired keyboard because sometimes you do need the cable connection especially, if the wireless connection doesn’t work for whatever reason.

Along with the keyboard, we have our USB charging cable basically this is just plugged into any USB port it’s definitely long enough I’m to reach around either your laptop or your desktop, and an extension cord for your receiver if you want to remove your receiver closer to your keyboard if your keyboard is not actually picking up the receiver on your computer, and a mini USB receiver that Logitech ships out, this is one of their Universal ones. So, you can just plug one in and use it with any Logitech mouse that’s compatible with this or any other Logitech device.

The keys are nice as far as features on the keyboard, there are a bunch of function keys on the top that can send you home, so you can compose an email, turn your brightness up or down, your volume, your music, basic stuff like that, even one for your calculator. I really don’t use these as much as I thought I would but they definitely work and it’s nice to have them and they do work whenever you do need them too. As far as battery life, I haven’t had to really charge it over a week. So, the battery life on this is very good, and if you just keep your coordinator on your computer you’re not gonna have issues you can just plug it in and keep using it as a wired keyboard. 

One thing I really don’t like about this keyboard is the spacing of the keys. Whenever I’m typing code for some websites whenever I go to hit shift and then the end quote, I often hit Enter that I don’t want to press and it actually has been a problem for me. That’s not the only two keys that bump into each other when I’m typing I do accidentally hit wrong keys and I’m pretty accurate as a typer and so that’s one issue I’ve run into is that the keys are fairly close together. There’s literally hardly any room in between them and so if anything that’s my major issue with this keyboard is that keys are pretty close together. But that does again contribute to the smaller form factor and so, I guess you have to give a little bit to get that better form factor. I’m glad they did include the number pad because I use the number pad a lot more on my desktop than I thought I would, I didn’t have it on my laptop but this number pad had no issues here and I’m glad they included it.

PERFORMANCE:

Logitech K780

As far as the battery life, they come with a keyboard which is great. Logitech claims that with their power-saving idle mode, and on/off switch, the K780 delivers up to 24 months of battery life. With a Bluetooth range of about 10 meters, you can have more than enough space between the device you connected to and yourself if you’re not keen on using you know the provided stand. If you’re using it to write essays on your tablet this wireless keyboard can come in very handy. It’s portable and will last you a very long time.

Logitech K800

As far as typing on with the illuminated keys, I really haven’t made much use of this. I don’t type with the lights off in my room and I usually have lights on, so I can tell they illuminate whenever it is light in my room but I just really don’t use the feature to the full extent as in typing in a dark room and seeing the keys. They do light up very well in the dark, the key is very well defined, and I have no problem reading them in the dark, and there are no real issues with the backlight in my opinion.

As far as being comfortable whenever you’re typing, these are incurved keys and I haven’t had any issues with that and they’re comfortable in my opinion. They don’t stick up very high, they’re not really mechanical, and they’re kind of in-between from laptop keys to a standard mechanical keyboard, it is somewhere in between. I did have a mechanical keyboard before this and it’s definitely that nothing like this.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

Overall, both of these keyboards are pretty solid keyboards, the design is very nice, very sleek, the keys are comfortable,  and the features on the top row of keys are nice to have as well, and the battery life is as good as you can expect for a wireless keyboard. But the K780 is a multi-device keyboard which is really good about the K780 while the K800 is not. The only thing that might turn a lot of people off is the price of the K780 but still, it worth that price with its features. Also, the K800 is worth buying at its price for the features it consists of. It’s really up to the person who is getting the keyboard to decide whether or not they like it because each person types differently, their hands are of different sizes, and they prefer different features, so different keyboards work with different people.
