Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech MX Master 3

If you’re not familiar with Logitech lineup more specifically the MX series, these things are built for productivity. It’s really great for coders, designers, people who use spreadsheets, or multitaskers who just like to switch windows all the time.

My favorite thing with this mouse is definitely the build quality. I really like the aesthetics and grip. Overall, it’s a solid mouse.

Logitech MX Ergo

This mouse is not like the other normal mouse and also not like the technological mouse, it has the new thing in the design which the Trackball facility. This mouse also gives many features that are available on the Master versions.

DESIGN & COMFORT:

Logitech MX Master 3

This is the third version of the MX lineup and it’s very similar to the second one. They’re pretty much the same thing except this one’s more fine-tuned and just polished up overall.

It is very similar to the MX 2S in terms of its overall shape and functionality but then they change some things. One of the things they changed up is the scroll wheel in the front. The scroll wheel is not made of gears, it’s actually built on a magnetic system which basically means you can scroll a lot smoother and faster during your workflow process.

Another thing they changed in the MX 3 series is the button position for the backward and forward buttons. Previously, it was behind the scroll wheel on the side that made it a little bit uncomfortable to reach but now they put it right under the thumb rest which makes it easier to quickly access those buttons which is definitely a good upgrade in my opinion.

I personally like this mouse here than the previous version. I like this slim modern sleek line design they created here versus the MX 2S version which had like a diamond-shaped pattern. I thought that looked pretty cool as well but I personally liked the newer version much more. The only thing I don’t like with the MX 3 is the gesture button position. It seems like it’s a little further down which makes it a little bit harder to reach and I feel like I really have to emphasize stretching the thumb out whenever I want to use the gesture shortcuts.

Logitech MX Ergo

I used this type of trackball years ago. One thing I enjoyed about the trackball used back in the day was the comfort level when placing my hand on it and it looks like Logitech has still stuck to that with this new MX Ergo. It has a nice ergonomic design as like the name Ergo. So, when placing your hand whether you have a large hand or small hand, it will feel comfortable.

The MX Ergo at first glance looks like a very comfortable trackball which, to be honest after using it for several days, it sure is comfortable. It has a soft and sort of rubbery top to place your hand on with a slight curve to rest your pinky finger on the side of it. So flipping it over, you will notice that there’s a metal plate which actually has a rubber bottom, so that way it’ll avoid slipping or moving around because it is a trackball, you don’t move it around but this metal plate also serves another purpose and that is for comfort.

I mean the fact that the MX Ergo has a hinge that allows you to move it from a zero degree angle to a 20-degree angle. Now, when first using it I thought this might be very easy to knock back and forth depending on what I’m doing but it’s safe to say that the MX Ergo has some very strong magnets that keep the metal plate in place. So, it won’t accidentally move back and forth from the 0 to 20-degree angle. I intended to switch the angles up depending on what I was doing whether I was editing or just casual browsing whatever felt comfortable with my hand.

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Logitech MX Master 3

When I receive the package, there’s the mouse, the USB to USB cable to charge the mouse, a dongle for wireless connectivity, and the instructions manual.

On the bottom of this mouse, we have a few buttons. We have on and off switch button. We have a sensor that pretty much works on all surfaces including glass which is really nice. So, if you’re always on the go, no matter what surface you put it on most likely this mouse is gonna work out for you.

At the bottom of the mouse, we have the device connectors. You can connect up to three devices with this mouse which is really nice if you have multiple computers, maybe you’re streaming on one and then actually working on another and that’s really handy, you don’t have to have multiple mice around you can just use one mouse to use up to three computers. This is really cool for multitasking and improving that workflow.

The mouse does work on Mac Windows and Linux. So, you shouldn’t have any issues with connecting this mouse to any devices. You can connect this mouse using the USB dongle, wireless Bluetooth, or the cable that’s included in the packaging.

In terms of features, there are a few things you can do with this mouse. One of the features Logitech has is called Logitech flow. So, flow lets you copy text or images from one computer and paste it on another computer. So, if you have two computers connected to this mouse, you can easily transfer data from one to the other which is really handy for increasing that productivity and making your workflow a lot smoother and easy.

I personally like to use the mouse is with the gesture keys, I can do things like open windows and switch between tabs which I find really handy and it helps to speed up workflow. Another thing I like to do is use the scroll bar on the side of the mouse which helps in Final Cut Pro to edit videos and photos a lot quicker.

Logitech MX Ergo

On top, you have your normal left and right-click buttons and also a trackwheel. This track wheel allows you to not only click it in but it also allows you to click it left or right. Next to that, you also have two buttons that are preset to go back or forward a page when for example on the internet browser or if you’re in the window, you can go back and forward as well.

Also on the side, you get a precision button that allows you to get more precise when using the trackball. So, when you have that on, you also get an LED indicator showing it is currently turned on. At the bottom of the MX Ergo, we get an on and off switch and a micro USB port for charging which you get a micro USB cable supplied in the box as well.

The MX Ergo is a wireless trackball. So, it has its advantages compared to a mouse. It doesn’t have you moving it all-around your desk like a normal mouse. This is extremely great for those who have a very small workspace or even when traveling, you can just place it down and start moving the cursor across the whole entire screen with a simple flick of the thumb. I think it is also helpful if you have wrist issues because there’s not a need to move your wrist or arm around.

Since this is a trackball and you’re concerned about it getting dirty and things over time, it’s very easy to actually clean. All you have to do is just pop off the metal plate at the bottom and then poke through that hole and then you’ll be able to clean the trackball and also the sensors inside. So, if you ever needed to clean it out and everything, it’s pretty easy to do. So, maintenance on this is not really an issue.

BATTERY

Logitech MX Master 3

The cool thing about using the cable is you can actually use the mouse while it’s charging if ran out of battery. This thing has some really quick charging. Logitech says that you can charge this thing for one minute and it will last for up to three hours which is super quick and if you charge the mouse to 100% that’ll ensure that you can use the mouse for up to 70 days which means you can take this thing on trips without having to worry about keeping it charged.

Logitech MX Ergo

Now, if you’re concerned about the battery life of the MX Ergo, Logitech does State it will hold power for up to four months on a full charge. I can see this being true. Also with the MX Ergo, if you do have a dead battery and need a quick charge, the battery will charge quickly in with a minute of it being charged, it’ll give you a full day so that is pretty awesome. So, if you’re in a hurry you really need to use it, just plug it in for a minute and you’ll have some battery to last do that day.

SOFTWARE:

Logitech MX Master 3

The biggest turning point of this mouse is the software offered by Logitech for this mouse which is called Logitech Options Software. In this, you can customize any button and also there are many features available in this software.

Also, you have predefined customizations for your favorite and useful apps like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Safari, Final Cut Pro, Google Chrome, etc,. The workflow technology also works by this software. This software makes everything easy and quick and I really like all the customizations. This will be very useful for productivity and anything like that work.

Logitech MX Ergo

One thing I have really enjoyed about using this is the fact that it has customizable buttons using Logitech’s options software. So since I love listening to music when I’m brainstorming ideas or editing, I customize the trackwheel to be a gesture button for my media controls. So, when I click it in, I can play and pause a track but if I hold it in and start moving a trackball left or right, it’ll go back a track or skip a track but also if I move the trackball up or down, I’m able to control the volume which is pretty good.

You can customize this to many different things but this has suited my style when I’m using it. I set the trackwheel to scroll left or right when I click it left or right. So, when I’m editing, I can move across my timeline and the other two buttons I left it as is, so I can go back or forward a page when I’m browsing the web or other windows but also when I’m editing, I can quickly go from one clip to another in my timeline by also clicking one of those buttons. So, it’s been very useful when I’m editing or even just doing casual browsing or any day-to-day tasks.

I also left the precision button as it is. So, if I’m editing something and really need to get to a specific spot, I can quickly change the sensitivity of the trackball by clicking that button and a half more of a slower speed, so I can be more precise on edits that have been very useful.

Now, you’re the kind of person that uses two different computers at the same time. The MX Ergo has a feature called flow, it allows you to use two different computers seamlessly with the same MX Ergo. You’ll be able to pair both of them just by clicking the button right there in the middle of the MX Ergo switch it over to number two and then you’ll be able to connect the other computer via Bluetooth or if your other machine doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can use the USB adapter that comes in the box and you’ll be able to switch between the two by dragging your cursor over to the other display. you can even copy and paste text, images, and files between them.

WHICH TO BUY?

Both these mice are nice for editing and many other things. The design of these mice is very different. Even though many features are the same, the MX Ergo has a different and comfortable design, and also the price is $20 less comparatively. The MX Master 3 has many extra features than that of MX Ergo. So, you have to decide which one will be perfect for you by this detailed review.
