INTRODUCTION:

Logitech Z906

The Z906 by Logitech is a 5.1 surround sound system, it’s 1000 watts, it is THX certified, and it is big and it packs a lot of punch. You don’t need to spend a pile of money on a separate amp or receiver. There are enough inputs to satisfy anyone and the speaker cables are nice and long for larger rooms.

The Logitech Z506 has a 5.1 system and it has a nice subwoofer which actually produces some pretty crazy bass tones. It comes with two rear speakers, two front speakers, one center speaker, and one subwoofer. These sound really good, loud, and has heavy bass movements.

The satellite speakers got the THX branding on the top, your new Logitech logo, for screws metal grill which is great, the speaker tweeter size is 80 mils, the top and the sides have nothing, the bottom has two rubber which is good for grip, you have a threaded hole so you can attach that thread to a wall mount or a speaker stand that’s nice and at last you have your left and right speaker cable attachments but that’s essentially it for the satellite speakers. The center speaker is very much similar except the branding is on the wide side. There’s no kind of rectangular circle around it, there’s the THX logo, Logitech branding, and the same kind of deal but it’s obviously sideways for the center speaker.

The subwoofer has itself built-in power cord and the subwoofer at the first look itself seems like a premium product. The bottom has four rubber feet, on the right-hand side of the sub there’s a big bass port, on its top nothing and nothing on this site as well, and on the front, you can see the big speaker grill, you’ve got the Logitech logo inside.

On the bottom side of the subwoofer, you have your console port, there are surround sound inputs from your computer that’s labeled as number one, you’ve got RCA left-right as number two, you have a three and four which are optical ports, so you can hook up your PS4, a gaming console, or even your computer if you want, if you want to use optical which is a digital signal, you have number five which is a thing they call it coaxial, you have your console port and all your different speakers clearly labeled and where they should go your right and your left. This whole back speaker grill is metal, everything else is plastic it’s a standard hard plastic but everything else the backplate is metal which makes it a bit more of a premium feel.

The satellite speaker has I believe that is about one or one and a half-inch driver that goes for all the satellite speakers as well. Tweeters are up at the top and each of these and on your main front right speaker you have your power button, there is also a light indicates whether it is on or off then you have your volume control. There’s no hum on max volume which is pretty good and amazing. It also has a headphone jack for plugging in your headphones.

The back of the subwoofer is where you have all your connections and stuff. At the back, up there we have our base knob which you can control the base with which is very nice to have you have your audio input which comes with a cable to plug into your laptop or whatever. It also comes with two IU cables for the six channels, then inputs for stereo which is like your TVs and stuff, and your front right speaker connection which is a special connection.

The subwoofer has a special connection because this is where most of the power flows through and can actually power the rest of the system. The satellites don’t power the system the amplifier right there on the subwoofer does which is a pretty beefy amplifier. The whole entire system is a hundred and fifty watts all of the speakers combined and I’m imagining the subwoofers most of those watts. Then you have your rear left which is blue, you have your right, your front left, and your center channel as well as a power plug.

In the box, you get the standard Logitech manual and all that stuff. Then you have two different blocks in the box for the satellites and the subwoofer. Logitech is pretty smart that they’ve made a box kind of cradle to hold the blocks you can use that to grab them out and it’s not gonna fall out. In the satellite speakers box, so you get one center speaker there and all other ones are all essentially separate in the sense that the cable isn’t attached to the actual speaker because they all asked for standard speaker cables. Then you do also get a remote in these boxes.

You do also get a Logitech remote, this takes three Triple A batteries that do come with it. The quality of this isn’t all that great, it’s a little bit dodgy and looks like the general cheap plastic. We do expect a little bit of a better remote for spending so much money on a good speaker. In the remote, you have the on the button, you have your input change, you have your mute button, your different levels effects, and plus and minus for volume and comes with three triple A Duracell’s.

You get the control console where we’re going to do a lot of stuff. There is your volume rocker, you have a button which is for on and off, your input selector, another button to choose what type of stereo mode you want 3d, 4.1, or 2.1. Then you have what different things you want to select, and you have a mute overall mute button. There is the Dolby Digital or DTS digital surround logger, infrared sensor, and you have six rubber feet. There is also a headphone port as well as an aux port in the control console that you can use as a quick input. The cable that comes with the console is connected through a serial port style cable, and also works as a VGA cable.

The standard green black and orange cable and you can use it to connect to your computer. It also comes with all the relevant speaker cable. It comes with two long ones which are for your rear cables or your rear speakers, and you have three of the same size which comes for the left, right, and your Center. All these speaker wires are soldered tinned, so they’re not gonna fray or anything, you don’t have to worry about twisting the wires all over again, and they are labeled red and black for right and left.

I’ve connected everything up to the console, the left, the right, and I’ve selected the aux Channel and I’ve put in my aux cable and tested out how does the console as well as the remote works and they work really good. You can actually do all that you can do on the console with the remote which is pretty handy.

It is a high-quality speaker the only thing that feels cheap is probably this control console. It’s not heavy at all whereas the speakers do feel quite heavy. The speaker cables are good though they’re pretty decent and length really depends on how you want to use this. These speakers are really good to use like a small home theater where you’re switching between console, gaming’s, and stuff like that but also you can use it for your PC.

Logitech Z506

With these Logitech speakers, it has five speakers, you have your rear left, your front left, front right, rear right, center channel, and subwoofer. Each of these speakers which all of the satellites, center channels, and stuff like that use the same exact speaker. Obviously, except for the rears, the rears are tuned to produce high and mid-tone sounds mostly.

To connect the front right speaker it has relatively a long cable with a connection port and you’re just going to make it fit the shape by searching for its shape. You’re going to push it as far as you can go and then you’re going to start screwing with these as it will get tight and then if you want you can push a little more. To attach the front left speaker it has a black cord so you’re going to plug the black cord into the black slot. To attach the center channel plug the green wire right into the green slot. To connect the rear left speaker it has the blue cord you’re going to go ahead and plug that into the blue position. For the rear right speaker, it has a gray cord, and just like the others plug it in the gray color slot and the system must be plugged in.

SOUND QUALITY:

Logitech Z906

There is a separate cone to the main speaker diaphragm so the dynamic ranges were better in the treble values over this speaker. The satellite speakers sound good but there was no depth in their sound. As the size of the sub is big it pumps out all the bass as you want and also you can reduce the blast with the help of the console.

Logitech Z506

For the sound test, I have had the speaker all plugged in, the system is on and did at 25%, 50%, and 100% volume. At 25% it was not that much loud, at 50% volume itself it was loud enough and sounded good and at 100% that’s so loud. As far as the bass test, I disconnected all the other speakers focused primarily on the bass. At 25% the bass was okay, at 50% it was a little bit heavy and at 100% the bass was so heavy and punchy. I can actually see the bass moments in the subwoofer it was really great.

WHICH ONE BETTER FOR THE PRICE?

In my opinion, the Logitech Z506 is better for the price than the Z906 because the Z506 has better sound quality and the bass is really good for the price only thing here missing is the control console and the remote which comes with the Z906 but its price is very high.

If you’ve never experienced true 5.1 surround sound, have a capable sound card and your content primarily resides on your PC, the $100 Logitech Z506 are a fantastic introduction, but we can’t honestly recommend them over the company’s far-more flexible X-540 set — the obvious choice at the $90 you can presently find them for. When it comes to analog surround sound, anyone can hook up two or three sets of quality two-channel speakers to get a similar effect, so the onus is on Logitech to make combo 5.1 packages like this easy to use and set up. We’re mystified why the firm would ever introduce a package with less bang for the buck.

Although it isn’t without its faults, we were still impressed with the Z506 set and its superb audio quality. It costs slightly more than the older X-530, but it has a greatly improved design, and everything we played on it sounded fantastic.
