Hello everyone, it’s tech time, and this is a brand-new Samsung Galaxy watch 5. This article will contrast the new Galaxy Watch 5 with the Galaxy Watch 4.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is the newest model in the company’s line of smartwatches, while the Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the best-selling models. In this post, I’ll compare the two models’ design, display, battery life, price, fitness capabilities, and other features to help you decide whether to purchase the Galaxy Watch 5 or the Galaxy Watch 4 is currently on sale.
Also, keep in mind that only Android devices can use both of these smart watches, so with that said, let’s begin.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Design
The galaxy watch 5 has a minimalist design and is available in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm, like this one here. Both models have an armored aluminum body and are only available in that style; the 40mm model comes in three color finishes, black, gold, and silver, while the 44mm model is available in black, silver, and a stunning blue finish, which is probably the best color, in my opinion.
In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 4 is also offered in the exact two sizes as the Watch 5, including a larger 44 mm size like this one, and it has the same armored aluminum body. The 44mm model is available in black, silver, and green, while the 40mm model is also offered in those colors.
The only minor difference between the watches that hardly anyone will notice is that the galaxy watch 5 has a more curved back than the watch 4, allowing for better skin contact and more accurate results. Even though both smartwatches have the same armor aluminum body, there is a slight weight difference between them. The 44 mm galaxy watch 4 weighs roughly 30.3 grams, compared to the 40 mm model’s 26 grams.
The 40 mm model of the galaxy watch 5 weighs 28.7 grams, while the 44 mm model weighs 33.5 grams. This is because the galaxy watch 5 has a larger battery. I own both models, and they offer a very comfortable fit, so the slight weight difference shouldn’t be a significant problem.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Display
The super AMOLED touch screen displays on the Galaxy watch 5 and 4 both support 396 by 396 resolution on the 40 mm models and an incredible 450 by 450-pixel resolution on the 44 mm models.
The galaxy watch 5’s display has a new sapphire crystal lens that offers a 60 percent harder outer layer than the watch 4’s, which is a minor difference in display quality. The display is sharp, colorful, and attractive, making everything on the watchface easy to read.
Both watches support always-on display options on all watch faces, ensuring you can always see the screen or watch face. To wake up the display on either watch, raise your arm or press any physical button. The display goes off as soon as you lower your hand, which is actually good because it saves battery life.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Unique Feature
Compared to other smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 from Samsung stand out thanks to their digital rotating bezels. The galaxy watch 4 and 5’s black border around the display is a digital bezel that allows you to scroll through widgets or menus, a convenient feature.
Since both smartwatches have touchscreen displays, you can use touchscreen features like swiping down to access quick settings or swiping left to access widgets, and swiping right to access all of your notifications. It isn’t as convenient as a physical bezel, but once you get used to it, you shouldn’t have any problems.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Buttons & Straps
The right side of both smartwatches has two buttons: an oval-shaped back button and a home button with a red border. The most recently used app can be accessed by pressing the home button twice, and the digital voice assistant Bixby can be used for various voice commands by holding it down for a short period.
Only features, but if you’re wondering who still uses Samsung Bixby, you can change the voice assistant on both watches to Google Assistant and reprogram the home button, which makes everything much better. Holding down the back button also launches Samsung Pay, which can be used for NFC payments so you can pay directly through your watch.
You can change the watch face on both watches by holding down on a specific watch face or using the corresponding app on your phone. Both smartwatches have a variety of health-rated sensors on the back that are heavily used to provide accurate health and fitness results. You have many options to choose from because the Samsung Galaxy Wearable App supports more than 200 watch faces (including third-party watch faces).
Additionally, the watch straps on both smartwatches can be switched out for any other 20 mm or 22 mm watch strap from your Lycan. Additionally, both smartwatches have an IP68 rating and are water resistant to a depth of 50 meters, meaning they can withstand splashes, rain, showering, and swimming.
To Setup
To set up either of these smartwatches, download the Galaxy Wearable app to your Android phone, press both of the watch’s buttons simultaneously to turn it on, then open the app, choose the device you want to connect to, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Once the watch is configured and ready to use, you can access all of its settings and features from the app.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Watch OS
The most significant software update for Samsung smartwatches came with the release of the Galaxy Watch 4. All Galaxy Watch 4 series smartwatches, including the new Galaxy Watch 5, now run on Google Wear OS instead of Samsung Tizen OS. Samsung still uses its one-watt skin for the watches, but the OS as a whole is based on Google Wear OS 3.
There are no lags or bugs anywhere in the OS, which is a remarkable improvement over the Samsung Tizen OS. One UI watch 4.5 that supports new accessibility features and provides a better typing experience is included with each new galaxy watch 5.
For example, a third-party youtube player app lets you play a youtube video; youtube music and spotify for all your music content; apps like nike running and strava to track your workouts; and the calm app to relax your mind; as Google Wear OS gives you access to the Google Play Store, you essentially have access to all third-party apps you need. Google Wear OS also opens up a whole new world for third-party app support if you’re upgrading from a Galaxy Watch.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Features
These smartwatches alert you when a phone call is coming in and let you swipe to accept or reject it, just like any other smartwatch. I’ve made calls using both smartwatches, and the caller had no trouble hearing me speak. The speaker and microphone quality on both of these devices is excellent.
Both watches have cellular connectivity via LTE, so you can manage calls, send and receive messages, stream music from your apps, and more without having to be close to your phone or rely on Bluetooth. Your smartwatch will also notify you when you receive messages and notifications from various apps on your phone, and you can respond to those messages directly from your watch.
Both Galaxy Watches provide a fantastic interactive experience thanks to the reply-back features that work with almost all apps.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Fitness Features
Both Galaxy watches have Samsung’s three-in-one bioactive sensor, which includes an ECG, bioelectrical impedance sensor and a heart rate sensor to help monitor heart rate, blood oxygen levels, body composition, and sleep. Both smartwatches are intended for fitness, heart sleep, and stress tracking.
The heart rate monitor is accurate, and you can connect it to third-party apps like Strava, Adidas running, and Nike running club. With the body composition reading, you can now get a general idea of your muscle mass and body fat percentage, which is pretty good and helpful.
The smartwatches can track over 100 different workouts with automatic activity tracking functionality, which means the watch will start recording a workout session as soon as it detects a particular spike in your activity. This is helpful when you take the stairs to work, cycle, or jog back from college to your house.
Additionally, they monitor vo2 max data, which reveals how much oxygen is consumed during exercise. The galaxy watch 5 has a few new tricks up its sleeve, including a new infrared temperature sensor that Samsung plans to use for temperature monitoring, which could help detect early fever or illness. Unfortunately, it isn’t yet functional, though Samsung claims it will be available soon.
Besides these two new features, both watches offer the same fitness capabilities. The galaxy watch 5 supports improved sleep tracking and has a unique sleep coaching program that helps you improve your sleep habits.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs Galaxy Watch 4: Battery Life
The watch 4 has a 247 milliampere battery for the 40 mm model and a 361 mah battery for the 44 mm model. Under heavy use, the watch 4 lasts for about 15 hours; I used to charge it before bed. Under moderate usage, however, the watch 4 should last for 25 to 26 hours.
Samsung claims that the larger battery in the new galaxy watch 5 supports a battery life of 40 to 50 hours, but this is untrue. The galaxy watch 5’s 40 mm model houses a 284 mah battery, while the 44 mm model houses a 410 mah battery, both of which are good upgrades from the galaxy watch 4.
The galaxy watch 5 should last you for at least 30 to 32 hours on moderate usage with an always-on display, Google Assistant-enabled calls, workouts, and GPS navigation. Additionally, this estimate is entirely based on my use, and it can be even lower if you consider the LTE model. Compared to the watch 4, the galaxy watch 5 has faster charging and can charge your watch to 35% in under 30 minutes, and it takes you about 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100%.
Pricing
The galaxy watch 5 is unquestionably more expensive than the watch 4 because it is the most recent model in the Samsung watch lineup. The 40mm Bluetooth model costs $114.99, the 44mm Bluetooth model costs $144.99, the 44mm LTE model costs $194.99, and the 40mm LTE model costs $164.99.
The galaxy watch 4 starts from the 40mm Bluetooth model costs $199.99 and the 40mm LTE model costs $249.99.
Conclusion
so now that i have gone over everything that these both smartwatches have to offer the question is which smartwatch should you buy should you pay more and get the new galaxy watch 5 or should you just buy the discounted galaxy watch 4. even though the galaxy watch 5 is new it is just a very minor iterative update over the galaxy watch 4 and it does not offer anything fancy or extraordinary that will make you regret buying the galaxy watch 4.
the most noticeable upgrades on the galaxy watch 5 is the new infrared temperature sensor which still isn’t active a better battery life more durable sapphire crystal glass and new colors which really doesn’t convince me to recommend this over the discounted galaxy watch 4.
the samsung galaxy watch 4 offers almost everything that the galaxy watchful does and it is an amazing watch that you can buy even though the watch 5 is just a minor update over the watch 4 both these watches are still the best android smart watches you can buy right now
