Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Sonos Move

When you will first look at the speaker you will notice it’s larger than other portable speakers on the market and this is entirely intentional from Sonos. Few portable speakers, even those with smart assistance built-in, have as rich a feature-list as the Sonos move. So, a higher price tag is more easily justified. It’s even got bookshelves and lamps now, thanks to its recent Sonos/Ikea collaboration. The Sonos move is Sonos’s only portable speaker which offers both wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity and it’s worth $399. The great thing about having both Bluetooth and wi-fi means you can enjoy the benefits of both. So, you can connect your Sonos wi-fi ecosystem at home and then switch to Bluetooth when you’re out in the garden or you’re away from home.

Bose Home Speaker 500

Bose is one of the biggest tech companies in the industry which came up with their own and join in on the fun. The bose home speaker 500 are running for about $400 on Amazon and the bose website. That’s a very high price point for any home speaker unless, you’re just into Bose products and you just love the quality of the sound, the build quality, and, everything of the Bose. You can’t pass this up, this is a very good product for you. It is powered by Alexa and also you get the power cable and you have a Quick Start Guide/user manual/safety manual and that’s pretty much it.

DESIGN:

Sonos Move

Looking at the backside, starting at the bottom you have your connector for your dock, you have a USBC cable. Then up at the top, you have your pairing button, your Bluetooth, and, Wi-Fi selector. Also, you do have your power button there. And at the very top, you have a cutout for your carrying handle which is a nice way to carry it around. The bottom of this speaker has a rubber foot on it, it’s covered in some plastic there so nothing gets stuck to it. It’s all nice and grippy when you bring it home. But if you will look at the top on the front side, you have your Sonos logo and Sonos’s move looks basically like most of the other Sonos speaker’s very familiar look to that. Then around the bottom is where it’s very different, it has a nice rubber coating all around it, which will give you your drop resistance. If we look at the top up there you have your same kind of touch panel, and you got your microphone array around there, and then your microphone emblem to where you can turn on and off your microphone, and then you have your play pause, and your volume buttons.

Bose Home Speaker 500

As always the build quality from Bose is amazing. You’re paying $400 for this speaker so you’re going to get premium build quality, you will not be disappointed with the build quality. When you will open the box inside at the very top you’ll get is the Bose speaker itself and it comes in the nice little cloth wrapping. The speaker does come in two colour i.e. silver colour and black colour. you’ll notice on the very top, it has the holes up at the top and what’s underneath the holes are the mics, there are 8 different microphones on there to pick up your voice when you do use Amazon Alexa. You also have a mute button so, if you don’t want to use Alexa, you don’t have to just hit the mute button. You have a volume Demming button there- volume up, volume down, play pause, Bluetooth, and, aux button. You have 6 presets there where you can set them to different radio stations or playlists that you have inside of whatever app you choose to use.

Bose Home Speaker 500

FEATURES:

Sonos Move

The weather resistance is rated as IP56, which means it’s protected from very fine particles such as dust and heavy liquid splashing including heavy rains and snowfall, and yes you can use these at the beach. Also, you can use these within your home and you can add them to like a room within your Sonos group, but you can’t use them as like surrounds and you also cannot pair it to your sub, since it’s going to move around, your subs gonna be stationary, you can’t pair it just to yourself.

The things you need to know about this speaker are the facts coming straight from the Sonos website, so definitely some things that you need to keep in mind. If you get this speaker and you want to use it as a Bluetooth speaker, say you’re going camping or tailgating or something like that you must have it set up to your Wi-Fi first, you have to have it added to your system and then you can use it as a Bluetooth speaker. So, don’t just grab it on the way throw it in the back of your car, and think you’re going to be able to use it, because you won’t be able to. When you’re on Bluetooth you will not be able to use the Sonos app or Alexa control that you will have to use like your Spotify app. You can’t pair two of these for surround sound in your home but you must be on Wi-Fi that does not work on Bluetooth.

One of their newest features is Autotuning of their true play that is probably one of the greatest features, you no longer have to wave your phone around and listen for feedback from the beeps and signals from it now it just automatically does it as long as you’re connected to Wi-Fi including even outside. The batteries in this speaker should last around three years and they will offer a replacement at that time but in the meantime, you should get around 900 charges before needing to do that. Also if you’re someone who travels and wants to take this with you, this is TSA approved you can take it in your carry-on. Amazon Alexa is the platform I tend to use but these will work with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, you do have to choose one or the other you can’t do both you can’t switch back and forth but you do have to actually enable each time. Also, this does work with airplay too.

The last things that we are going to touch on are, there is a built-in Wi-Fi range extender so you will get much better reception outdoors from your home with the Wi-Fi range. And also charging this on the go if you’re going to be using a USB-C Charger something like your car may not charge it especially while using it, it may slowly charge it over time but they suggest using at least 45 watts I do have a 30-watt charger that is charging it but it may be going much slower.

Bose Home Speaker 500

So, when you first get this product and open it up outside the box,  on the front of the speaker you do have the display, which shows you different statuses of what music being played or the time. On the downside underneath the speaker grill at the bottom, you have two speakers that face outwards that plays your music and it does get pretty loud. On the backside, you do have your aux input for if you want to hook up some device that it doesn’t have Bluetooth or you’re just not in a place where you can access your Bluetooth, hook the cable into here and then you can also use this speaker that way and underneath is where you will hook up your power cord and behind your power cord you have a USB mini port and it says service underneath, and that’s not necessarily for the consumer maybe you have it if something goes wrong with this speaker and you have to return it for some reason and they have to find out what’s wrong with it then they’ll use that to run Diagnostics on it to figure out what’s going on.

When you set this speaker up it looks like the cord is about 4 feet long so, it gives you plenty of space to put it wherever you need to. When you first set this product up what you will do is go to your phone and download the Bose Music app and just open it up and follow the onscreen step by step setup guide. Once the setup is done you will see the different features and what you’ll notice is when you’re done with the whole setup process you will see my bose and it’ll show you your speaker that you have set up, if you have done multiple speakers set up, it will show all of them as well, If you click on your speaker on the very first page it’s the home page, you will see all the 6 presets that are available to set and it also shows your recently played tracks. At the top, you have Amazon music if you do have access to Amazon music you can hook up your account. Also can play in iHeart Radio and the same way in Tune-In. I believe Tune-In is a free service that they provide, all you have to do is just set up an account, I’m not 100% sure.

You also have Bluetooth you can hook up it to your phone and computer as well. The reason to hook this up to your phone is that title is the main music streaming service that I use and the title is not available on there so, I off it by myself just using the Bluetooth mode to play my music through the speaker. You also have the AUX input setting as well. Down below you do have the icon of your speaker and if you click on that you have settings, it shows your product name and you can change the name of it. You also have the voice assistant, it is something that you do have to set up if you do want to use the Alexa feature.

You also have a sharing feature, you can enable the device to be shared inside of your network with other devices. You can change the language of it, there are multiple languages that you can choose from. There’s a clock feature you can turn that on and off 24 hours or 12-hour clock. You have an auto-dimming feature which I always leave off, I just like the bright display. You have technical information and common questions when I first got this speaker I was using it and I didn’t like the bass or the lack there but then I was like hold on let me go inside the app. And then you can make your adjustments there, you have the bass turn it up from 0 to 100 and also the treble and if you are a person that likes bass and a lot of trouble then you can turn the bass all the way up and then turn the treble up to about 70 and that’s a good feeling, that’s a good sound, obviously you can adjust it to whatever you want.

You also have the app version, end license agreements, privacy policy, Terms of Use, and, you can sign out of your account from there. There is also an on-screen display, it’ll bring up the screen art from whatever music that you’re playing. The display is also nice. It’s a nice feature to have just to look up and see what music is playing or a few new songs come on it you’re not aware of and you just look up you want to see the title of the song and you don’t want to look at your phone to figure out what it is.

SOUND QUALITY:

Sonos Move

The sound quality of the Sonos Move is amazing and marvellous. Internally it boasts two classy digital amplifiers, one mid-woofer and, one downward firing tweeter and altogether that offers a really balanced smooth sound and pretty decent bass. It sounds really good when it’s in large open spaces. It’s been designed in a way that it can be moved around from room to room in your house or taken outdoors using the carry handle, but it still will sound more powerful than many of the portable speakers on the market.

So, how do you listen to music on the move, well obviously you’ve got Bluetooth and I’m pretty sure you’re all familiar with how that works but when you’re at home and you’re connected via wi-fi you can then stream using the Sonos app, Spotify connects, and, it also supports apple airplay 2. So if you’ve got an Apple device such as an iPad, an iPhone, or, a mac you can simply cast any audio straight to the move. It’s also got both amazon and google assistant built-in so if you do want to go completely hands-free you could use either of those voice assistants which is quite a nice plus to having a portable speaker.

Bose Home Speaker 500

The sound on this is amazing, it’s Bose that’s what they do they specialize in making products because of their sound quality. The bass is amazing the mids the highs everything about the sound quality on this is amazing. There is the group speakers feature too, you can enable it if you have two of these speakers, you can hit that group speaker and then you can have both of them playing your music simultaneously either on each side of the house or multiple sides of a room. On the main page, if you do hit the icon at the top right where it shows like the little person inside the circle, you can manage your account from there, you can manage the various products that you have.

You also can set up your various music services like Google, Amazon music, Iheart app and other apps that you can link to this and you have Deezer, Pandora, Sirius, and, Spotify. Like I said they don’t have a title which is something that I use often and so I have to use the Bluetooth feature. Then you have tune-in which is included in, you just have to set up a new account for that to work.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

Undoubtedly  Sonos Move and Bose home speaker 500, both are great smart speakers. Sonos Move is definitely better than Bose home speaker 500 because the sound quality of Move is much better than that of Bose 500.  If you’re one of those people that just love Bose products then I can see you buying this going with this, but there’s a bunch of other smart speakers out there that play music and I don’t know how loud you want it but this is one of the loudest that I’ve tested so far. You can’t go wrong if you do decide to purchase this item. But Move has the handle too, you can take it whenever you want to.  And Sonos definitely gives great sound, it has a fabulous base and comes with guaranteed durability.

The price of both the speakers is high, neither of this smart speaker comes cheap. Sonos Move and Bose Home Speaker 500, both come at $399. After going through this review, it totally depends on you that which is best for you.
