Both speakers have unique features and design-wise both are kind of the same. There are a day and night price gap between both speakers. Sonos Move

Sonos move is Sonos’s newest speaker and they have listened to things that we’ve been asking for years now. It now has a Bluetooth weather-resistant speaker and it’s also portable with a built-in battery. It is a little bit more transportable than portable. However, it’s a little heavier than most portable speakers. It is a classy speaker with amazing sound. It’s a smart speaker with Alexa and the Google assistant that can brave the elements and remember this is the first portable speaker they’ve ever made, they threw everything they could at it and they should for its price income on it. 

Sonos One

Sonos One is a marvelous speaker and Alexa and Google assistant never sounded so good. The first smart speaker designed with music in mind, the one still rocks the socks off any competitor in its price range. It has the ability to choose between the two major voice systems further ups one’s appeal, especially to Google households. Despite some teething problems and a slight lag when requesting songs, voice integration on Sonos works very well. Its flexibility extends beyond voice, offering compatibility with many standards, including Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect as well as the company’s own superb whole-home audio system.

These speakers are designed completely different, the Sonos move really had more clearly defined highs and the genre of music you normally listen to will likely dictate which one you prefer because let’s be honest like audio is pretty much still subjective for most people now the Sonos move it still sounds great there are really many genres where it does sound about the same as the home pod. Inside this speaker, it has a single tweeter and a single woofer the fact is that there’s an entire side on the Sonos move right on the back that has nothing right, it’s forced handle, it’s for its power button, it’s forced syncing button, so it doesn’t allow you to fill up that same type of space with this, but then there’s another reason for that it’s a portable speaker, so 360 sound is just isn’t as important in an open space when you have all the empty air and space that the sound can’t even really bounce off of or fill.

Sonos One

The speaker is dream looking speaker. The design is very nice, very sleek and, very simple. It has some sort of rounded edge but it is somewhat of a square shape from the top. The speaker is small but it’s a good size and it’s comparable to a Google home. Also, you have the controls at the top are not clickable buttons it’s going to be touch buttons, just like the other 2nd gen devices. You’re going to have your volume input and you’re going to have your play button in the middle and your microphone too. There would indicator LEDs too. On the side of the speaker, there is your sync button and your Ethernet cable input, it doesn’t actually come with the internet cable. Then your power cable is gonna be right at the bottom there, so it’s gonna be nice and it’s gonna line up right there so, it’s nice and hidden. Also, you’re gonna have the nice little feet there, that will allow you to have good grip without necessarily slipping or having to damage furniture. The speaker itself from inside is mesh. The mesh is going to be a nice strong plastic and inside the mesh sure you’re gonna have your mid-woofer and your tweeter for your treble and your bass. Overall it looks very nice.

Sonos Move

When you will look at the package the move comes in the Sonos branded, it’s like a felt type bag and kind of a thick material that it’s gonna give it some protection. They’re also saying this is drop resistant but you don’t just throw it down and abuse it and you know not to take care of it. We have the speaker and then there is your charging dock, which is a really cool feature. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s proprietary and it’s all connected together so none of this can be undone. So, if you would set this up in your house somewhere and forget it every time you take your move out and you bring it back or take it into another room bring it back sit it back on your dock, and don’t move it so that we don’t risk breaking it.

The speaker is worth $399 and stands over nine inches tall and it really Dwarfs the competition in the $300 plus smart speaker category with a similar footprint at the base around roughly six inches by five inches. The Sonos move is really doing some unique things that completely separate from the pack and this is a new direction for Sonos with their first portable speaker ever and it’s called the move for a reason and it has the handle right there on the backside you will definitely like what and it’s like it’s kind of just integrated. It’s really sleek and smooth you just grab it and you can take it anywhere you want, just grab and go and it is big but it’s portable and if you’re someone like me who works out like me, this is as light as a feather for me but for those you at home it, it’ll probably feel like a normal weight.

This is portable and it comes with roughly a 10-hour battery life as I took it with me on a weekend trip and its battery life is honestly never an issue. This speaker has the cool elegant looking charging base, it’s the ring and round base, you plug the other end into the wall but you know you take your move around with you wherever you go, and then when you set it down you need to charge it you just have to pop it right there and there you go. You can also charge it on the go with a compatible USB C charger that you might already have, a USBC cable is not included in this package but just like you would expect from Sonos the setup is done on an app and even though there are many steps to go through with a device like this I’ve always liked how Sonos does the setup, it’s really straightforward and easy to follow and once you’re set up your setup. It’s a versatile device that streams over Wi-Fi at home but if you’re out and about on the go, you can switch over to Bluetooth everywhere else.

Once when I set up it, it just acted like another echo speaker in my apartment it just integrated easily and became another one of those speakers in my home after the setup, it’s just super easy now. This is a portable speaker so you’re gonna be able to take it with you and place it wherever you want. Also, it has this feature called auto true play and it uses the built-in microphone inside of it to detect a room and then make the proper adjustments it needs to optimize the sound. The sound quality is amazing you will feel like you’ve matched it up with arguably the best sounding speaker in this kind of $300 class which is to me of the home pod it’s arguably the best sounding one.

Sonos One

Sonos One comes in the cool box. When you will open with the speaker you will get the setup manual or guide. The packaging is also nice, it comes with a little solo brand sticker and mainly you have your power cable. Don’t get to be confused with the play one or the one SL which are different speakers, the one SL is essentially the same speaker but without the voice-activation capability, so it doesn’t have a built-in microphone. It let connect your Google home system and it has built-in Alexa. So, if you want to just, say hey Google or anything you can. This has two speakers one mid-woofer and then one tweeter. It has a good sound quality obviously a smaller one out of the lineup but you have something that is great for an office space or a bedroom, something that’s small easy to move around, and also that acts a good amount of sound quality.

To connect the speaker you need to plug in the power cable at the bottom. After it gets connected you can play the music and even you can adjust the volume straight from your phone or you can do it from the speaker too very easily. You can also pause the video from the speaker and you can keep it going if you want to.
So, if you press the microphone button, you can add a voice command service. So you can go ahead and add your Google assistance at the Sonos on this speaker only and then you want to log into your Google account and anything that you could do on a Google home you’re able to do on this speaker. So you will be able to tell the speaker to play a certain song or a certain album or a certain artist and you’re able to tell that with a voice command.

This speaker is very handy, especially if you’re going to have this in a public space where everybody can just say, hey Google what time is it, that could be very interesting. This all-in-all is a great speaker, great quality, the sound is crisp, and, at the same time, the volume is quite loud for such a small package. It’s obviously not going to be the same level of the almost play five or a big subwoofer but you have a lot of condensed power. This is something that you can have in an office space, a small kitchen, you’re going to even put this in a bedroom, and, it’s something that you can very easily have an alarm set to and it wakes you up in the morning. It’s a great little device.

Sonos can control all of the smart home devices that a standard echo or dot speaker can. Thanks to the combination of amazon’s and Sonos’ services, the setup of the Sonos one is a little more involved than your average echo device but thankfully not horrifically so. The process involves installing the Sonos and Alexa apps, and you’ll need to sign in to both your Sonos and Amazon accounts, as well as any other music streaming services that you’ll want to listen to using the speaker. You’ll also be encouraged to go through a ‘true play tuning’ process, which requires you to walk around your room with your phone as your speaker plays a number of test sounds. Your phone listens to how the speaker sounds in its environment and Tunes its sound accordingly. You can also manually adjust the treble and bass levels of your speaker if you have more specific preferences, although we were content to leave them at the default levels. You’ll also need to assign the Sonos One a room to allow you to identify it from the Sonos app, and it’s here that you also have the ability to pair the Sonos one up with another speaker to have them play music in stereo. 

SOUND QUALITY:

Sonos Move

Inside the move, it has a single tweeter that sounds really clean and crisp and then one mid-woofer that gives you those mid-range frequencies and then handles the bass for it. You already know Sonos is compatible with pretty much every music service you can think of, we’re talking about Spotify, amazon music, Pandora, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and, then there were even ones that I didn’t even know about like this list is extensive and oppressive, that’s just how Sonos does it. It’s also compatible with all of your other Sonos speakers, so all you Sonos fans that freak out there can set it up for your multi-room listening. This is a smart speaker too with two of the best voice assistants out there, it has Amazon Alexa and the Google assistant they’re both built-in, and then you can switch from them easily within the app.

So when you’re at a barbeque or if out on the beach, the move sound quality, it’s more directional, and with this portability, it honestly makes it a really special device and if it’s portable this thing needs to be really tough. So, the Sonos move is just a beast when it comes to weather with an IP56 rating that’s rain, snow, dust, and, humidity resistant. They say just don’t leave it in a rainstorm plus I’m not gonna try this but this thing is even drop-resistant like technically if you drop it from somewhere to the ground and it’s supposed to be fine, but now I don’t ever want to put it through that especially the speaker is $399 after all.

Sonos One

Given that this is a Sonos speaker, you won’t be surprised to hear that the Sonos one sounds pretty fantastic. Throw elegies by mouse on the keys at the speaker, and sound has real punch and energy to it. It’s an impressive amount of power from such a small speaker. The speaker even deals admirably with more complicated pieces of music. Silent earthling by three trapped idlers sounds clear and crisp, despite the multiple layers of instruments circulating throughout the song. That said, the speaker doesn’t offer the separation of a pair of stereo speakers with the way the music is squashed into a single channel, but it does a solid job at its size and price point, and naturally, its ability to be paired with more Sonos speakers enhances its sound further still.

The smart speaker competition is just getting warmed up. In the meantime, the Sonos one offers the best combination of versatility, sound quality, and affordability in any speaker you can buy, period. According to Sonos the new version has an updated processor and more memory but is otherwise identical. We haven’t tested the new version, but we expect the sound quality to be the same. The Sonos one behaves pretty much exactly like an Amazon Echo or Google Home speaker including features like a continued conversation but it lacks a few of the capabilities of those speakers. There is a rundown Alexa calling/Google assistant calls: Echo speakers can call other echos and most phones within northern America for free. Likewise Google assistant can also make voice-assisted calls. Unfortunately Sonos one is not able to do this.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

Sonos has an absolute winner here with a big sound that’s portable in this classy design with every music service you can think of. It has the carrying feature in that you can use the back handle that’s built-in. So, you definitely want to keep that in mind, but if you’re going camping or want to take it to the beach or places on the go poolside, definitely you can do things like that, but it’s not something you want to throw in your backpack and take on a hike because it’s definitely heavier than that you’re gonna want for that. Sonos One is specially made for an indoor setting. Sonos One costs more than the Amazon Echo and Google Home of the world, but it’s still relatively affordable and sounds much better and best for those who want to use it at home.

So, the good thing is both are excellent speakers. The Sonos Move is definitely expensive as its worth is $399 and the Sonos One is worth $199. So, choose as per your budget and keep in mind that, Move comes with the bonus of being the only Sonos speaker that works with Bluetooth.
