Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Turtle Beach Recon 70

If you’re in the market for a solid headset at the budget price point, I think the Recon 70 is the best option out there. You gonna get a standard design here at a lower budget. The features you gonna get here is worth buying under $40.

Razer Kraken X

The Razer Kraken X gaming headset comes at only $50. You can use it across every single platform. The design of the headset is very stylish and impressive. The design of the mic which can be bend, the finish of color, and everything as physical features is nice.

DESIGN:

Turtle Beach Recon 70

The Turtle Beach Recon 70 has a very simple and standard design. The headset is extremely lightweight with a hard plastic build but it doesn’t feel cheap at all.

The headset will flex and bend without making any cracking or squeaking noises. Overall the build quality, I think it’s pretty good for the price and I do expect that from a brand like Turtle Beach.

The ear cups are that slightly larger over the ear design. As we wear the headset for a few hours at a time it’s very important that they’re comfortable.

Razer Kraken X

This headset is made up of is 99% plastic. The only metal I can see is the screws holding in the plastic, everything else is plastic. Even in little arm adjustment, there’s no metal support inside or anything. The entire thing is plastic. As it is completely plastic, they may break. If they could have had metal support, it would be better, it’s just reassurance. It’s a fact that, if you want lightweight then you have to give up on metal support.

COMFORT:

Turtle Beach Recon 70

Turtle Beach does a nice job with padding and cushion, that is certainly enough for your ears. The sort of leather material is soft and light. There is also a bit more cushion across the top of the headband. They’re very comfortable to wear. You’ve got some wiggle room with the ear cups to ensure they sit tightly on your head.

The ear cups have just a bit of back and forth movement. The ability to twist is about 270 degrees, which means the headset will certainly lay flat on a table or desk or when you’re traveling. You can take it in a bag but keep in mind, they don’t fold up at all. If you need to adjust the size you can do that as well with the headband extending out or in with that sort of clicky notched adjustment system. You’ll get about an extra inch on each side.

Comfort-wise, they feel great. I can’t find any discomfort at all. The ear cups are soft, and light, and very breathable. The whole headset itself is very light too. So, they feel great and they fit great.

Razer Kraken X

When you put it on your head, it feels like big. It is really comfortable. It gets fits on any head shape comfortably. They are incredibly light. They are super light. In the ear pads, the ear cushion is so stunk, and soft, and so incredibly cozy. In the top-up, you have the little head cushion but if it’s a little more up, it will be more comfortable. Even though they don’t have that swivel, they’re still comfortable. In the ear cups, the cushions are sufficient and then, the headset is entirely lightweight.

FEATURES:

Turtle Beach Recon 70

Turtle Beach technically sells specific color combinations to match with the consoles. Green ones for the Xbox, blue for the PlayStation, and so on. Hardware-wise, there is no difference across any of the headsets. They aren’t made specifically for one console or the other. If you like the red and black ones and have an Xbox they’ll work fine. If blue is your color but you’re rocking a switch, go for it. They’re all the same standard 3.5 millimeter wired audio jack connection, no matter the color or style. As far as the price they all come in at just under $40 which is a great price for this.

The headset is wired. So, you’ll be plugging in this standard 3.5-millimeter connection into your controller or adapter. The cable is a 48-inch long built-in rubber-coated setup. There aren’t any inline controls, that’s because both your volume and mic controls are on the headset itself. So, your volume controller can control the in-game volume only which is found on the back of the ear cups.

The cable length seems to be a little short at first but that’s good because when it’s actually connected to my Xbox controller. It doesn’t get tangled around my feet or across my lap, I definitely like the length. Since this is just your standard 3.5-millimeter connection, at least on my Xbox it was a really straightforward plug-and-play setup. So, no batteries to worry about, no charging, no settings to screw around with, it’s just as easy as it gets.

Razer Kraken X

Inside the box, you’re gonna get the headset, little PC splitter right down to use your mic, it’s pretty long actually. As well as the cable to have plenty of lengths. Also, you’re gonna get a couple of stickers, QuickStart guide, Razer 7.1 activation code too.

You gonna get 3.5 wire right here. It is attached to the headset permanently. This wire is incredibly small. It’s really light speaker wire, it also goes for your splitter for PC. The wire is small, thin and it feels cheap but it’s not really a negative talking about the wire, the sustainability depends on how well you take care of it no matter big or small. You have your little volume rocker right on the bottom. Next to the volume rocker, you gonna get your mute button.

I don’t think you could be disappointed with this Razer Kraken X. The downfall is that there’s no metal reinforcement in there, so it may break. It does not have a swivel, if it has a swivel, it may fit so much better. This doesn’t mean the headset is bad. It’s lightweight, the cushions are nice, and soft, if you’re on Xbox or switch, then you’re not going to be disappointed with this headset. If you are going to use it with your PC, you might have to do some tweaking. My overall opinion on the Razer Kraken X is it worth the $50.

MICROPHONE:

Turtle Beach Recon 70

The mic is built into the headset as well. It has that flip-up design, and the way this works is pretty simple. When the mic is down, you’re free to chat away in-game and when you flip it up, your mic is automatically muted, I like that a lot actually. I think it’s a pretty straightforward way to control the mic. It also ensures it’s up and out of the way when you don’t want to use it.

I was really impressed with the mic quality. To be honest, I was not expecting a whole lot here with a mic but it is as good as any other headset I’ve tried. It’s easily comparable to some 100 or 150 dollar headsets.

It’s certainly sensitive enough to capture a lot of detail in your voice. There’s not any sort of droning or humming. There’s not a whole lot of background noise. It’s just an excellent mic setup overall for in-game voice.

Razer Kraken X

You can on your mic by pressing it and you can mute your mic by pressing it back again. You can get a little red notification light next to the mic button. Those are your controls right on the back. There were no controls for the wire. You gonna get your mic on the left side.

It’s pretty nice because wherever you put it, it stays right there for the most part. This mic is not detachable and it does not go in, so it’s always right there. When you are not using the mic you can tuck it back over. The mic is about two to three inches from my mouth. Honestly, it’s pretty good. The mic really sounds good. For $50 the mic is incredibly awesome.

SOUND:

Turtle Beach Recon 70x

The actual sound you’ll be getting from these headphones is balanced and very neutral. you’re gonna get any booming bass, there isn’t that like a thud that you might experience with other headphones. The sound overall is great. I had no complaints about using these in any game. It’s clear, it’s crisp, and you can hear nearly every detail that you need. They don’t get insanely loud. You could crank this headset up all the way, and still listen very comfortably. These won’t be blowing out your eardrums at all.

The headphones give you a good sense of what’s going on. One thing this headset also does really well is noise cancellation, along with the over-ear design which blocks out the outside world, I’d say about 75% or more.

With the in-game audio, you’re definitely getting a very solid experience. Especially with a directional sound and that sort of surround sound. Especially with games where you need to hear where certain things are coming from behind you after side like Apex Legends.

Razer Kraken X

The sound quality is good in this headset. I have tested some more expensive Razer headsets which are around hundreds and a hundred-plus dollar price range. They all have had that heavy bass muddy sound not that hard crisp bass. They are just muddy where it drowns all the other sounds. But in this Razer Kraken X, they had a very balanced soundstage which was really nice. There’s bass was not hard hit on-ear shaken by any means. You can hear it and then the highs in the mid.

Again, it was really nice and balanced when it was connected to the mobile phone, to the Nintendo Switch, to the PlayStation 4, to the Xbox One, and PC. They didn’t sound like they get very loud on the ps4. They weren’t bad, but it’s just they sounded better on the other platforms. When it is connected to PC, the sound is just okay but not great. They just sounded good but with the mobile, the Nintendo Switch, and the Xbox one, it sounds amazing. When I used it with the Xbox one, it sounded fantastic. If they can put this kind of sound within their other headsets, then they’re going in the right direction with this sound.

WHICH TO BUY?

Before taking a decision about which to buy between these, I want to say that both these headsets are budget-friendly. Both the headset are nice and work well. I will recommend Razer Kraken X because the sound quality of mic and headphones is better than the Recon 70. The price difference between these headsets is also not very huge, it’s just $10.
