Ultimate Ears Boom 2 vs Megaboom: Which to Buy?

Ultimate Ears Megaboom vs Boom 2

The comparison here is between the Ultimate Ears Boom 2 and Ultimate Ears Megaboom. Here, one is a second-generation Bluetooth speaker from its line-up and another is a first or original generation Bluetooth speaker from its line-up. But both of these are from Boom families.

Among these two, the UE Boom 2 is a more affordable and portable model than the UE Megaboom. The UE Boom 2 is the successor to its previous generation UE Boom. There several things which have been changed in this, and the most important one is on the water-proofing. The new one is certified for IPX7 in place of IPX4, which means Boom 2 is rated for immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. So, if you have a pool party and by mistake, your speaker slips down into the water, you don’t need to worry about your speaker, until you take out your speaker within 30 minutes it will be alright. In case if your speaker is dirty you can also wash it using water it is IPX7 rated.

The UE Megaboom is a more expensive model and bigger than the Boom 2 from the UE speakers family. This has been packed with almost the same features but with the addition of more powerful acquisitions, and a larger battery. Design-wise both these look almost the same having the same cylindrical shape to it. As far as weight, UE Boom 2 weighs 548 g and UE Megaboom weighs 877 g which means the Megaboom weighs more than the Boom 2.

Both of these speakers have rubber and fabric coating and this form-factor makes these speakers modern, solid, and strong. You can find the huge volume rockers on the front, and the power and pairing button on the top of both of these speakers. There is also an attachable clip at the bottom of the speakers which enables the speaker to attach or to a tripod mount or hanging from the backpack. You can also find the 3.5-millimeter aux, and also micro USB port charging. Importantly, the UE Boom 2 is lighter and easier to carry. You have many color options on both of these, but if you want to remain safe black is still there for you.

The main improvement over the UE Boom which makes the UE Boom 2 better arises in the volume, which rises from 88 decibels to 90 decibels. It also got improved 10-watt drivers improving slightly on the clarity except when the volume is totally maxed out. As far as the UE Megaboom, it has a total of 18-watt drivers, and two passive drivers for extended bass performance and the clarity is unquestionably top-notch. As long as you are not too concerned by its sound at maximum volume, this isn’t a deal-breaker at all.

Both of these speakers can respond to Siri and Google Assistant. If your phone’s alarm is usually not enough to wake you up, the UE Boom 2 has a super alarm mode which can be set through the app. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth range is up to 30 meters with NFC paring options. It also has a unique feature that I call a tap sensor, tap the top once to play, and tap twice to skip a track. The most important feature of these devices is they have the ability to pair with all the Boom speakers. You can have these two speakers connected together and use them as stereo speakers and also you can connect more than two speakers and play them altogether if you want more sound out of these. If you had a bad battery experience with your old Bluetooth speakers, UE Boom 2 and UE Megaboom wouldn’t disappoint you, since the Boom 2 has 15 hours of battery life and the Megaboom has 20 hours of battery life. Both of these speakers only need two and a half hours for a full charge by micro USB.

UE has a fabulous Bluetooth speaker here. In my opinion, this one is gonna be hard to beat. I love how ruggedized the build is. A portable speaker should be able to withstand life’s perils. The 360-degree sound output is also well-thought; it just makes…

The MEGABOOM covers most listening scenarios better, but it is slightly worse off when it comes to portability, so if your primary concerns are sound quality and volume, the MEGABOOM will fit the bill better, but if you want something to reside in your backpack, you will find yourself wanting the BOOM instead.

VERDICT

I have to admit that both the UE Boom 2 and the UE Megaboom are very recommendable Bluetooth speakers for the active lifestyle. But it just depends on you which one do you prefer the most. There is only around 15 dollars difference in their price range currently. If you want a speaker at a lower cost then you can go for the Megaboom but if you can spend more then you can go for the Boom 2. I feel like the Boom 2 sounds better than the Megaboom and has better battery life. Other than that, both of these speakers are strong, water-proof, have lots of features, and have last longer battery. It’s not less expensive than those premium Bluetooth speakers in the market but I can say, from these you can totally get what you paid for.
