Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Ultimate Ears Megablast

Ultimate Ears Megablast speaker is one of the popular Bluetooth speakers in the market because of its Alexa function. This speaker is retailing for a higher price currently on Amazon. This speaker is retailing for around two hundred and thirty dollars currently and this also looks just like the bigger version of the Blast speakers from the Ultimate Ears.

Ultimate Ears Blast

The Blast is a Bluetooth speaker from the Ultimate Ears manufactured by Logitech. Ultimate Ears is very popular in the market for their best sounding Bluetooth speakers. This speaker is also retailing for a quite budget-friendly price of around ninety dollars and for the price it really works well.

DESIGN:

Ultimate Ears Megablast

One thing that I really like about this speaker is its simplicity, there’s really not much to it, there’s not a lot of buttons, unusual functions like holding certain buttons down. All you need to do is tap the top button and that will power it on and you’ll see the light come on and you’ll get a tone to let you know that it’s on. Other than the power button on the side of the speaker, there is a rubberized part having a huge plus and minus buttons that is your volume up and your volume down buttons. To power off the speaker, just tap the same button at the top and you’ll get a tone letting you know that the speaker is powering off.

Ultimate Ears Blast

It feels solid, it feels very heavy, and obviously, we’ve got 360 sound except for a little area there which is rubberized. Also, the top and the bottom part of the speaker is rubberized. At the bottom of the speaker, we’ve got that little D-ring there, which we can unscrew and put the other one in. There’s also a little tab to pull off there, where we have got the micro USB charging port.

As far as the button controls, we have got the plus and minus button there on the rubberized part of the speaker on the side for volume up and down. On top of the speaker is where we have got the power button and there is a little dot near it which is the Bluetooth pairing button. When you turn on this speaker, you will listen to a sound that indicates your speaker has been turned on, and also when you turn it off, again you are going to listen to the same sound.

FEATURES:

Ultimate Ears Megablast

Ultimate Ears make several different size portable Bluetooth speakers with the Megablast being the biggest and also the loudest. The Megablast speaker is a 360-degree sounding speaker and it’s also stereo and I did verify that by downloading an app so I could test the left and the right channels. One of the coolest features about this speaker is the fact that it’s IP67 dust and waterproof that means you can literally drop this thing in a pool or take it in a shower and it’s gonna survive just fine.

This speaker has a 16-hour battery life and I found that to be pretty accurate, I have used this thing about 30 minutes a day while I’m getting ready for work in the morning and I only have to charge this thing like once a month so really good battery life. You can charge this thing in one of two ways, included with the speaker is a micro-USB cable that plugs in there to the bottom of the speaker it only takes a couple of hours to charge this thing, and the other way that you can charge it is with a wireless charging dock retailing for $40.00 and you would simply take your USB charging cable and plug it into the base and you can set the speaker on the base and let it charge that way which is very convenient.

Once it connects to your Wi-Fi because this speaker is Alexa ready, you’ll get another tone, and that way you know it’s connected to your Wi-Fi. All the setup is very easily done through an app that you can download and the app is just like the speaker is very simple to use.  The app is available on iOS or Android and it’s a very simple, very clean user interface.

If you want to mute the microphone of the speaker so it’s not listening to you, you can just tap the button for speaker mic in the app right there and then tap off and that will mute the microphone, you do get a little tone letting you know it’s muted and then you turn it back on the same way. If you tap there on the status icon there, you can see the battery life, you can see which Wi-Fi network you’re connected to if you’re connected to, then you can see Bluetooth status, and if you’re signed in to Alexa you can see that there. Also, while you’re listening to music you can also use the volume controls on your phone if you weren’t close enough to the speaker, to use the controls on the speaker.

Ultimate Ears Blast

The Ultimate Ears Blast is from their lineup of Bluetooth speakers. The box claims that we’ve got an Alexa voice assistant, we’ve got Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, up to 12 hours of battery life, 360-degree sounds, and waterproofing IP67. We’ve got music from Amazon, we’ve got Spotify, we got Tuned in, etc so if you’ve been using any of these services you’ll be able to use it with Alexa but what you also notice is this is the same services that are provided with every other assistant.

The presentation of the box really nice designed so well. Inside the box, we get the speaker themselves, an instruction guide, a plug as every country has a different plug but what they do is they provide the plug and the actual charging unit separately, so you can slide it in there and you have the same flat micro USB charging cable. As these are IP67 rated these can be submerged in one-meter water for up to 30 minutes. Also, the company claims that you connect these via wi-fi up to 330 feet and via Bluetooth up to 150 feet.

SOUND QUALITY:

Ultimate Ears Megablast

I tested out the sound quality in this speaker with the maximum volume on and with a bunch of different kinds of music. I really expected it to sound good and this speaker didn’t disappoint me at all. I thought that maybe with the Ip67 waterproofing that there would be more of a muffled sound in the mids and the highs that were not the case at all in this speaker. The bass is also very good, it’s not overly bloated, it’s not kind of a rumbly distorted bass and the clarity is really great in this speaker.

Ultimate Ears Blast

The Megablast is definitely more powerful as expected but the sound quality is crystal clear on the Blast too even on the loudest volume. If we compare this to Amazon’s Echo, this product is definitely far superior in terms of power sound quality and the fact that these speakers are portable and can be used anywhere and in any direction and sound the same way.

Ultimate Ears Blast

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

In my opinion, both of these speakers are worth buying for their price. Both of these speakers almost look the same and have the same features. The difference between them is some of their specs and in their size which makes the difference in their sound quality. If you can afford much money and you want a speaker sounding much loud then the Megablast is worth buying and also, if are only able to afford little money then the Blast is also worth buying for the price.

At £109, the UE Blast is the cheapest, most versatile smart speaker on the market. No other speaker is this rugged and waterproof, has Bluetooth and Alexa compatibility. It’s compact, too, and although it doesn’t sound as good as its bigger sibling, the UE Megablast, sound quality isn’t bad at all.
