Here, we will discuss whether a budget Gaming Mouse such as the G203 lives up to quality performance despite its low price point and should you get it.

After two years of research and testing with more than fifty professional gamers, Logitech G is now making available its new family of “Pro” mice consisting of one wired version costing $70 and one wireless version selling for $150.

DESIGN & COMFORT:

Logitech G203 Prodigy

The G203 is a very budget-friendly gaming mouse that’s part of Logitech’s prodigy line. It weighs around 85 grams in a plastic body, so it’s on the lighter side compared to most mice that I’ve personally played with because I’m usually floating around the 95 to 105 grams range.

The mouse is pretty minimalistic and uses the same exact shell as the G Pro Mouse. Now, the USB cable is rubber on this one instead of braided. The buttons are fairly light and are rated up to 10 million clicks.

Logitech G Pro

Both mice, the wired and wireless weigh around 2.93 ounces, feeling pleasantly light but not enough to see your hand suddenly take flight in the heat of battle. If you’re coming from the G903, the new Pro mice are both lighter and slimmer, feeling less bulky under your fingers. There are no gaping crevasses either as seen with the G903, which we find causing annoying clicking issues with the buttons.

The wired version isn’t quite so friendly with lefties. It also feels and appears less rounded, using a flatter, boxier shape in its overall design.

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Now, using a mercury sensor and going up to 6,000 dpi, this mouse is the little brother of the Logitech G Pro mouse which in comparison has a Hero sensor going up to 16,000 dpi which is double the rate. Now, of course, higher dpi doesn’t mean better and gamers typically don’t go that high anyway.

I tested this mouse in three different genres which are Starcraft 2, Counter-Strike Go, and League of Legends, so it’s an RTS and fps and a MOBA game to test the range of performance. My experience using the mouse was really good. I only set my sensitivity at 1000 dpi for most applications. The tracking is really good for your mercury sensor even when I was picking the mouse up and dropping it back down from a mat. There are no issues whatsoever with this Mouse. On a basic minimal cheap gaming mouse, I think it performs quite well and even compared to other gaming mice that well exceeds twice, three, and even four times its price.

Logitech G Pro

There are two models that are wired and wireless. Both models are based on the company’s latest optical sensor, the Hero16K, packing a sensitivity of up to 16,000 dots per inch. Yet, the wireless version is the only model in the duo sporting an ambidextrous design, catering to both left- and right-handed gamers. The successor to Logitech’s Hero sensor, the Hero16K packs “critical upgrades” over the previous generation to track at over 400 inches per second and support more than 40G of acceleration. The company says it set out to create a high-performance sensor that requires very little power, therefore requiring a smaller battery and enabling lighter form factors without sacrificing performance.

What’s interesting about the new G Pro and G Pro Wireless is that they’re not the same. Logitech didn’t simply rip out the wireless component and re-sell the resulting device at a lower price. With the wired version, the DPI button resides behind the mouse wheel, joining your standard left- and right-click buttons along with two permanent thumb buttons on the left side. The added bonus is that this mouse provides an illuminated, customizable RGB strip running along the side and around the back of the palm area. Both have their pluses and minuses. But if you’re a long-time wired PC gamer who snubbed wireless peripherals over the years, you may need to make a double-take with Logitech’s latest efforts.

Naturally, we didn’t experience any performance issues with the wired model. Overall, we’ve found our new, favorite mice until Logitech G cranks out another upgrade. They just feel right, a byproduct stemming from the feedback of more than fifty professional gamers who helped mold both peripherals. The collaboration is obvious in the overall presentation, feel, and performance. There are no crazy, unnecessary frills here, just the very best performance and refinement, so you can focus on conquering games rather than battling hardware.

SOFTWARE:

Logitech G203 Prodigy

There is software for customizations and some settings which are called Logitech’s gaming software. You can customize up to 6 programmable buttons in the macros tab. You can set and save how many levels or dpi settings you want your mouse to have and toggle through them using the DPI button.

Now, as for the RGB settings, you have one zone to customize with three different effects. You may adjust the brightness and the speed rate of the color effect. There’s also a heat map for the mouse as well to record all your actions for performance data.

Logitech G Pro

For customizing all the programmable buttons and many more settings, you should download Logitech Options software. In this software, you can customize each and every button on the mouse. In addition to that, you can also do many more things like DPI rate changing, speed change, RGB setting, etc,. You can also easily change the effects that were given in the software by Logitech.

WHICH TO BUY?

Peripherals are very personal because it comes down to performance, functionality, comfort, fit, customizable options, and aesthetics. So, in my experience with this Logitech G203 Mouse, if it fits your hand, makes you win games, looks good on your desktop then why would you pay more for another Mouse that perhaps delivers the same or fewer results. So, if you are on a budget and you should try out the G203 Gaming Mouse by Logitech. The G Pro mouse is also great to use and the hero sensor tracking speed and the smoothness of it are very nice, as you know why the G Pro is such a famous one. But, the G203 is also giving that level of performance in 2/3 price of G Pro, so the best option is the G203 but if you want some more features with more smooth tracking and want to try a hero sensor, then you should pay $20 more to get a G Pro mouse.
