Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech K780

The Logitech K780 keyboard is basically the bigger brother of the K380 and it also comes with a few extra features. This keyboard is retailing for quite a higher price compared to the K380 because this includes the number pad and also, some extra features. The similarity between the K380 and the K780 is that both of these keyboards have the built-in tablet or mobile stand.

Logitech K380

Logitech is famous for their PC peripherals and some of you out there may even own some of their mouse or keyboards. There are hundreds of cheap wireless keyboards but I settled on the Logitech K380. The Logitech K380 is retailing for around forty dollars. This speaker also looks almost like the Logitech K780.

DESIGN:

Logitech K780

This has a full-size layout as well, so you have got the numerical keypad on the end as unlike the K380. So, it is very much just the bigger brother. There is a nice little integrated stand as well, if you want to use it with your iPad or your phone, it gives you a really great viewing angle so you can use your device with a full-size keyboard to make your life a little bit easier. On the right-hand side, there is a simple Logitech logo and also an LED that lights up when you power on the device. Then on the bottom, you’ll see all the different controls you got control, functions, start, out, so you’ve got basically ones to cover Windows and Mac, so no matter what device you use on you’ve got your usual shortcuts and functionality. You also have media keys at the very top of the device, I really do like these considering they’re just simple one press to activate.

On the right end of the keyboard, we’ve got the power switch that then lights and LED up to indicate is powered on. There is also a built-in stand that is a rubber cradle as well so it will protect your device when it’s sat in there. Logitech claims it can hold a variety of devices from smartphones to 12-inch iPad Pro. When you are using the big 12 inch tablets, they do recommend using it only in landscape. One thing to note, if you use a battery case it won’t fit, so don’t even try that. On the back we’ve just got a simple K780 then the battery cover is a little bit difficult to get off. Underneath the flap, we find the two AAA batteries as well as the Unifying receiver. There are also nice rubber feet on there as well to make sure it’s going to stay when put on your desk. The volume control as well is another great one to use. Then looking at devices as well just by using function and escape is really nice little nifty feature.

Logitech K380

At the front of the keyboard, we have circle keys which do take a little bit to get used to but it’s nothing that I would worry about. They really felt familiar coming from a MacBook Pro 2015 keyboard, which is saying something from such a low-price keyboard. The keys are nicely spaced keeping mistyped down to a minimum. We have three buttons for switching between different devices within a second or two by pressing these buttons you will get connected to the device, and ready to start typing.

As far as the keys, you have some simple media controls such as volume up, volume down, which works both on Mac and PC, the play, pause, skip tracing, and mute buttons are also there. On the left-hand side of the keyboard, you have a power switch that you can turn off and on again and when you turn it back on, it will go back to the previously connected device that it was set up. On the bottom of the device, we have four rubber feet that keep the keyboard in place, and we also have the battery enclosure at the top which obviously houses the two AAA batteries.

Logitech K380

FEATURES:

Logitech K780

The main thing to note is with this keyboard you can easily switch between three different devices with a simple one press of the key literally from the top left of the keyboard, you can select from 1, 2, & 3 that easily allows you to switch between three different devices. To add a device to the keyboard, it’s actually press and holds the key which to allocate then it’s just a case of going to your settings on your device in your normal Bluetooth pairing mode and activating it like that. You then need to type in a numerical keycode on the keyboard and then you will be good to go really simple to setup.

You can either play this with Bluetooth or you can use the USB Unifying dongle that’s included as she tucks away in the keyboard which is really quite convenient. The Unifying receiver allows you to pair up to 8 devices on one PC just by one USB dongle, for example, I’m using the Logitech MX Master that uses the same dongle, so I can literally add the keyboard on within seconds, and then we’re good to go, so it’s really minimal effort to set up.

You have got keyboard layouts for Windows and Mac, so no matter what you use it on you will find your shortcuts as you per usual. You can also get the Italian and Spanish layout and quality and also the azerty which is the French layout. Included in the box, we’ve got the manual, Unifying receiver, the keyboard itself, and then the batteries which are pre-installed, just a small plastic tab where you have to pull up the back to get up and running.

Logitech K380

I’ve used this keyboard and it’s been a great keyboard. This is a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with multi-platform support so that it works across all platforms with ease. The K380 multi-device has such good long battery life. Especially, out of the two AAA Alkaline batteries that come pre-installed with the keyboard. This is fantastic and I think that this is better than having a built-in battery which may degrade over time. You can connect this up to Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS and you can connect up to three different devices at the same time all using the three yellow buttons on the top of the keyboard.

All you have to do is press and hold the button to put it into pairing mode, and then go into the settings of your device, connect it up through the Bluetooth menu, and you’re done. For example, you can have the 1st button set to your Mac, you can have the 2nd button set to your Windows computer, you can have the 3rd one set to your tablet. Then simply touch any one of the three buttons and basically you just start typing on each of the different devices. The K380 does recognize each device and all automatically maps the keys to give you a familiar layout with your favorite shortcuts.

We even have some system-relevant keys such as the command, and start for Mac and PC. So, no matter what platform you’re on or using, you won’t be struggling to find the right key for the job, this is great and not typically found on keyboards especially at this price point. The keyboard itself is a slant for those who like a flat keyboard, this probably isn’t the keyboard for you but as I mentioned it is a very slight slant. I personally found this to be very comfortable and works well in a desk or lab environment.

Logitech K780

PERFORMANCE:

Logitech K780

This runs on AAA batteries but before you’re discouraged it runs for 12 months is what Logitech claims which is absolutely ridiculous. The K380 was six months, this is a massive improvement. On some keyboard, you have to use the function key then press the key to actually use it but this is just really easy, this makes it great it also sure live streamer and you play music or twitch alerts or things like that. The typing experience is very nice, I could easily use it as a daily driver it’s very comfortable to use and the added convenience of using our mobile devices just makes it even better.

Logitech K380

Keyboard battery life is calculated according to Logitech based on an estimated 2 million keystrokes per year in an office environment. So, obviously, depending on how you use the keyboard your mileage may vary. The typing experience is great, there is no flex on the keys, and the circular keys are actually really nice to type on. I really enjoy typing on this keyboard more than I actually thought and even more so than my MacBook Pro keyboard. It has about the same travel as that keyboard as well and it has some nice feedback as well when I’m typing. So, it doesn’t feel too mushy or anything like that. The keys don’t also make a lot of noise due to their membrane structure which I like but for those who like a clicky keyboard, so for you mechanical keyboard lovers out there, this won’t kill your cravings but for me, this was good enough.

Logitech K380

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

Both of these keyboards are very comfortable to use and easy to get used to. If you are a person that uses multiple devices, these keyboards may be a great benefit to your daily workflow, and it also makes a great pen holder as demonstrated there. But in my opinion, the Logitech K380 is worth buying than the Logitech K780 until and unless you need a separate number pad. The Logitech K380 looks nice and compact, it looks clean as well on a desk, and if you’re a Mac user you would actually get this over the Apple keyboard V1 and V2 as it’s a fraction of the price and basically it’s the same features and almost the same feeling as well without being limited to just one platform and I just love the flexibility of this keyboard.
