Marshall Stockwell II

The Marshall Stockwell II II is Marshall’s portable and most compact speaker in their portable range. The Stockwell II forms part of the new portable speaker range by Marshall alongside the Kilburn 2 and the Tufton. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred and seventy dollars currently on Amazon.

Bose SoundLink Revolve+

The Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus is the updated version speaker of the Bose SoundLink Revolve. This speaker is retailing for around two hundred and fifty dollars. This speaker is one of the premium speakers available in the market.

DESIGN: 

Marshall Stockwell II

It’s actually the most compact and lightweight speaker of the range at 1.38 kilograms and it stands at 18 centimeters high, 16.1 centimeters wide, and seven centimeters deep. It also comes in three color choices black, gray, and burgundy. I really like the black version of the one we have here because it’s closest to looking like Marshalls traditional amplifiers. I am a big fan of how Marshall speakers look and even in their portable speaker range, there’s still managed to keep the same aesthetic that makes Marshall speakers unique.

The silicon exterior is very durable, so you don’t have to worry about it getting knocked around when you’re out and about also these rubberized end caps here are very useful because it stops them from getting scuffed. Also, the front grille reminds me of sort of a microphone, and is a metal grille is a real metal grille so you can see that the amount of quality that’s gone into this speaker. The carrying handle is actually inspired by a guitar strap and it’s also made from vegan leather and on the black version, you should be able to see that it is also made from a red velvety material on the inside.

Bose SoundLink Revolve+

On the top of the speaker, you have the power button, then you have the Bluetooth button, then you have the volume down button, then a multi-functional button, then you have the volume up button, and there is a button to select the auxiliary input. The top corners and bottom corners of the speaker are made of rubber to provide protection to this speaker during shock. The handle on the top of the speaker is made of very fine rubber. At the bottom of this speaker, you will find the charging cradle connector which you can use to connect this speaker to both charging cradles which need to be purchased separately, so you never get out of charge. At the side, there are two ports, one is your micro USB charging port and your auxiliary input.

In terms of weatherproofing, it’s IPX4 rated, so that means that it’s resistant to splashes from any direction, so if you happen to spill your drink on it or keep it out in a light rain shower, it’s not going to affect it in any way. It’s not the most highly rated weatherproof rating out there as far as portable speakers go but I would say is the minimum you would expect from a portable speaker. One of the most impressive things about the Stockwell II is its battery life. So it carries a 20-hour battery life which is extremely rare to find in a portable speaker, what’s also great is that if you charge it for only 20 minutes then you get 6 hours worth of battery. So that’s great if you’ve forgotten to charge it for a party or an event.

In terms of controls, the Stockwell II supports Bluetooth 5.0 which ensures you’re getting the very best quality from your device. It didn’t drop out in our testing at all and it’s also got quite a good range of 30 feet or 10 meters. Another great feature in terms of Bluetooth is that you can connect up to 2 devices to it at the same time. So 2 of you can be controlling and it can change the music from both of your devices. You’ve got one Class D Amplifier for the woofer and another to Class D Amplifiers for both the tweeters, so it’s actually a stereo speaker in its own right which is quite impressive.

The Stockwell II 2 also comes with multi-directional sound so which uses Blumlein stereo sound construction. Basically, it just means that it projects sound out the front and the back, so if it was facing away from you you would still be able to hear a certain amount of sound, and while it does work really well. Obviously, you’d want to face it towards you for the best experience. With the carry handle, we did find that you can’t actually tuck it away, so there’s nowhere for it to actually sit with the speaker. So when you actually when it’s in your bag, you might find that this strap snags, it’s not too much of an issue but it’s just something to be aware of.

If you’re not going to be taking this away from home very often, you’re probably not going to be getting the most out of it, this is a portable speaker after all. If you’re looking for a home audio speaker, I’d probably look at something like the Acton or the Stanmore models which are the home audio speakers, the range, and just require mains power. If you’re a proper music lover who wants more of an all-guns-blazing speaker, I would probably look at something like the Kilburn or the Tufton which are bigger and it’s going to just give you full of sound and feel larger sized spaces more easily. So, if you’re in the market for a compact portable speaker, that’s easy to live with and actually has some personality, the marshall Stockwell II is a great choice for you.

Bose SoundLink Revolve+

As far as the unboxing, first we will remove this polythene covering from the box, then we have to remove the upper case by sliding it. Then we need to remove the security seals using some sharp objects and push the upper box. Then you will find your Bluetooth speaker the Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus. Other than the speaker itself, inside the box, you will find the user manual, your charging cable that is micro USB, and then you get the charging brick too. Actually, there’re three different types of connectors for the charging brick given with this Bose speaker according to the country you are in, you have to use the connector which is suitable for your country.

There is also one more variant of this one, which is just known as Bose Revolve, that’s slightly smaller than this one. This is the slightly bigger one and it also has a carrying handle, so that you can carry it around. This one actually packs in quite a few new features, for example, all the buttons here are on the top, and this is this unique design the cylindrical design that I call, and that is the reason it has that 360-degree sound. So, if you are sitting in a room where people are around in a circular way everybody would get that balanced sound because of this 360 degrees. This one is also splash resistant, unfortunately, it’s not waterproof so you can’t put it in the swimming pool or do something like that but if accidentally waterfalls on this, this will be okay.

As far as the battery life, this one actually has a very good battery life that is around 16 hours as Bose claims and during my test time it lasted for about 12 to 13 hours and it takes almost about four hours to get fully charged from when it’s completely dead. If you want to listen to music by wired connections, then you can use an auxiliary cable with this speaker. The auxiliary cable is not included in this box, you have to purchase it separately if you need it. However, this Bose speaker has built-in Bluetooth, you can connect your speed and speaker and smartphone using Bluetooth. Also, this speaker has NFC inbuilt also, so if your smartphone device supports NFC, you can just tap your smartphone over the speaker and they will be synced together, and you can listen to music.

SOUND QUALITY:

As far as the bass performance, this little thing has a good bit of punch surprisingly. Even standing slightly further away from the speaker, you can hear the resonance from a distance. Places near the corner and you get even more bass reflecting and bouncing back into the room. It’s nice and punchy, I didn’t experience any model mid ranges or the bass itself becoming distorted, and with the bass knob up at the top there you can add a little bit more bass, it’s subtle but does increase the experience slightly further. 

Bose SoundLink Revolve+

In my opinion, the most important thing about a speaker is how it sounds, it might have hundreds of features but if the sound quality is not that great I feel it’s a waste. This speaker sounds excellent for Bluetooth speakers and you will be blown away if you listened to them. The audio quality is actually really good but the way this Revolve Plus is designed in a cylindrical shape, the sound is disparate in 360 degrees area, so I felt the same volume level from all the directions. This speaker is sufficient to fill a big-sized room with the full loudness of the music.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, you should buy Marshall Stockwell II if sound quality is more important for you and you want more battery life. If sound quality and battery life are not important for you much but you want a better water-resistant rating and playback controls, then you should buy the Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus.
