Design & Features

Sennheiser GSP 370

The headset itself is minimalistic, it does not have a crazy design to it. It’s mainly black and grey and it’s quiet. I like the buttons on the side are easy to get to and there’s really not many of them. You’ll find on the right ear cup, it has an infinite scrolling volume wheel so you can easily turn your volume up or down, it even has little steps in it, it’s almost like tactile. So, you can feel yourself lowering or raising the volume. On the left ear cup, you’re going to find the micro-USB charging port and on and off switch as well as a LED indicator. Also, on the left ear cup you’re gonna have the microphone.

Even though it is made mainly of plastic it feels very durable and just simple which I like it’s just simple, you have just a few buttons that you need.

You will get few things with the headset in the box. Those are wireless USB connector for your computer which you are going to need as well as a charging cable, the charging cables fairly long and micro USB, so for those of you that wanted a USB C connection, it’s still using micro USB.

Steelseries Arctis 7

These are completely wireless with a lag free wireless audio and the headset connects to a USB powered wireless dongle with a 2.4 gigahertz frequency with a range up to 12 meters for 40 feet. The headset rocks the s-1 speaker drivers with an acclaimed DTS 7.1 surround sound exclusively on PC. Surround sound is not available on Mac, Xbox, ps4, VR or other devices.

The headset control buttons are located on the bottom of the headset which includes a mute button for the mic, volume dial for the speakers, a chat mixed dial which adjusts the volume between the ingame volume and the chat volume which works on PC and Mac exclusively. This even come with a downloadable software to adjust voice settings which I’ll get to in a little bit.

These are well-built, the outside of the cups have a rubberized surface that don’t really creak or squeak when I squeeze them. The top band is made out of aluminum and it is a truly lag.

Comfort

Sennheiser GSP 370

On the headband, it mainly have two different support beams, they are made of plastic. The headset is mainly plastic but on the inside you have plenty of ample cushing on your head without getting much strain. It is fully adjustable, so if you have a big head or small head you go ahead and adjust it where needed.

Now, the ear cuffs are very soft and plush and they have suede type material that touches the side of your head or ear and it’s very cool and it’s nice and comfortable. your ears do not touch the inside of the drivers, they are deep enough.

Steelseries Arctis 7

For construction and comfort, the Arctis 7 is constructed out of aluminum with a ski goggles elastic band to sit on top of the head. I actually prefer to have an elastic band on the headset as they suspend the frame from digging to skull after 30 minutes. I think it’s something that most headsets should implement. The ski ban adjust by undoing the Velcro and retracting band from the slit into the top of the frame to the desired length to best suit your needs.

The ear-cups on the Arctis 7 are nothing special to me in terms of comfort. I mean, they get the job done but the fabric isn’t that soft for paying $150. So, they do keep my ears from getting hot with the porous fabric channeling air to my ears that I do like. Fabric themselves don’t feel that comfortable as well as a cushion after 30 minutes. The frame of the headset is very lightweight, with elastic headband the headset just feels like it’s floating on the head.

It’s coupled with the wireless aspect of this headset. It’s not restrictive at, I feel free to walk about and move around without a wire attached to my head. Overall comfort is pretty good. Even though the ear cups are not super soft and they don’t feel comfortable after 30 minutes.

Microphone

Sennheiser GSP 370

This is the standard microphone that you’re gonna find on most of the Sennheiser gaming products and it looks very similar and it functions very similar. It has a slight flexibility in the middle with a rubber part, it’s not a really versatile when it comes to flexibility but for me I found it sufficient and you are able to get it close enough to mouth without picking up any breathing. If you flip up the microphone it’s going to mute.

I had zero issues using this with this cord or any other voice over IP. It just worked good. You would think that being a wireless headset the microphone might be a little bit worse than a wired one but I could tell overall it’s very functional. I do like the ability to flip it up to mute. They claims that it is the highest quality microphone but it’s not, it is functional.

Steelseries Arctis 7

There is a retractable microphone that is flexible to point into any desired direction. When the microphone is muted the tip of the microphone emits a red LED.

Like most gaming headsets, these don’t sound high quality at all. This headsets with a decent microphone are almost non-existent. The microphone is really small, even after installing the drivers and the software and adjusting the voice levels, the mic still sounded faint and muffled.

The microphone is muffled and light. The software adjust some voice options and you can enable a live feedback of your voice to the headset to make proper adjustments or some reason, the mic quality sounds better from the playback and it does during game or audio recording. I do like the feature of the retractable microphone though.

Sound Performance

Sennheiser GSP 370

Sennheiser is no stranger to audio. If you’re getting this headset to gaming, you are going to love this headset. It sounds really good. If I was playing a first-person shooter, the directional audio is great. The directional audio and the sound-stage is really good for gaming. As far as the frequencies go you can always adjust that, so those of you who want a bass or punch, if you’re listening to music or watching movies and you just want it to hit a little bit harder you can do so.

It is a closed back headset, the ear cups do hold in sound so you are gonna get bass in a little bit heavier than an open-back headset and it does sound really good in intimate and gaming and directional audio was a pleasure. Make sure you update your software firmware and everything for the headset, when you download the Sennheiser software it’s gonna be able to tell you exactly what version of firmware.

Steelseries Arctis 7

For the surround sound in the headset, it was decent at best. I mean you can try as hard each one to get a 7.1 surround sound coming out to two directional sources but you most likely won’t be able to replicate it. The Arctic 7 does not fully replicate 7.1 surround sound, it’s almost impossible. They are completely wireless, so replicating 7.1 surround sound it’s going to be difficult to begin with but despite the lack of true 7.1 surround sound the headset still had partially immersed into gaming environment which I enjoyed.

The sound quality on the other hand is relatively flat. It lacks depth bass and rich sound altogether. Even after adjusting the various volumes from both my PC, headset and included software the headset still sound really flat. I was pretty disappointed with this since I have other gaming headsets for one fifth of the price of this headset and still sound better than this headphone.

Battery

Sennheiser GSP 370

The good thing is you don’t have to charge the headset frequently. You do get a 100 hours of game time and it’s really good. These things get such good battery life. I would use them for several hours a night for a whole week and not even have to charge it.

Using the Sennheiser software, you can check on the percentage of the battery. So you can check the exact percentage rate. Without worrying about having to plug this thing in every single night or every so hours, it was a pleasure and then at the end of the week you can literally charge them. This also depends on exactly how much you use them. They claimed to get around 100 hours and it’s got to be close to that and it’s really good.

Steelseries Arctis 7

On a full charge the headset will have a battery life up to 24 hours. The Arctis 7 is charged through a micro USB connection from the USB dongle.

Conclusion

Sennheiser GSP 370

Overall, the sound, the wireless connectivity and the battery life is really good. If you’re used to any of the Sennheiser software, you’re gonna be used to this as well. You can load it up and customize your sound-stage, you can even turn on the surround sound.

Steelseries Arctis 7

My overall thoughts on the Arctis 7, I like the simple, aesthetic and the camo headband. The comfort of these are enjoyable and you could wear them for long periods of time except for the discomfort on the ears. There’s a good amount of volume adjustments and headset controls both directly from the headset and the software and the wireless capability of these are all-around solid. The battery life and build quality is very good. the sound quality subpar and flat and the 7.1 surround sound is good enough to be somewhat immersed at least for me but don’t expect a true 7.1 surround sound experience from this headphone.

I cannot recommend this headset for a hundred and fifty dollars, I think there’s a lot of better options out there. There is also a software that comes with this but that also does not help into justifying one hundred and fifty dollar price tag. I think that software is very useful but for the quality that’s coming out of this headset it does not do much for the headset itself.
